When Eurogamer leaked the Super NES Classic Edition and everyone started making their lists, no one included Star Fox 2. Hell, we made two lists and even we didn't mention it. The reason? It was never actually released, and there was no reason to suppose that it would ever escape the murky realm of emulation.
Star Fox 2 on Super NES Classic is an Amazing Surprise, But is it Complete?
That makes it easily the biggest and best surprise from today's SNES Classic Edition announcement. At last, Star Fox fans will get to play the sequel that has to this point been lost to history. Whether or not it's actually good, it's a great moment for the fans.
The only question is whether it's actually complete.
Unfinished prototypes have been floating around the Internet for years, which fans have used to patched together into ROMS. There is a semi-complete version with a fan translation, but it's still buggy, and it lacks some key gameplay features and encounters. Dylan Cuthbert, who programmed both the original and the sequel, claims that a finished version does exist, and that he played it while working on Star Fox Command, but this version has yet to see the light of day.
If it is just a prototype, then it will at least be a cool chance for mainstream fans to see the game that almost happened. But if it is the complete version, then that's huge for fans and historians alike.

Star Fox 2 History Before the SNES Classic

Star Fox 2's story is of course well-known among retro fans and gaming historians. Originally developed in the wake of Star Fox's breakout success on the Super Nintendo, Star Fox 2 was to have been released in 1995—roughly a year before the launch of the Nintendo 64. It would have dramatically expanded on the original game with two new characters, new vehicles, all-range mode, and most importantly, multiplayer.
As originally conceived, it would have been very different from the first Star Fox. The sequel would have eschewed the level-by-level shoot 'em up gameplay of the original in favor of a more tactical experience. It was to have featured a map screen in which players would have piloted their Arwing around the Lylat System and engaged enemy forces as they made contact. The goal would have been to protect Lylat from interplanetary missiles while taking on various bosses, including Star Wolf.
With the Super Nintendo still going strong thanks to Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country, there was plenty of room for a Star Fox sequel, but the advent of the 32-bit generation changed Nintendo's calculus.
"It was the summer of 1995 and the PlayStation and Saturn were suddenly doing very well in Japan," Star Fox programmer Dylan Cuthbert told Nintendo Life back in May 2015. "I think that caught Nintendo off-guard. The decision was made because they didn't want the old-gen 3D going up against the much better 3D of the next generation, side-by-side. The rivalry between Sony and Nintendo was very fresh and strong back then because of the whole SNES CD-ROM affair."
Star Fox 2 was subsequently shelved despite being functionally complete, relegating it to the status of historical curiosity.
Since then, many of Star Fox 2's most innovative features have filtered into other games. All-range mode, multiplayer, and the villainous Star Wolf were all introduced in Star Fox 64. The more tactical gameplay became a fixture of Star Fox Command on the DS. The transformable walker made its debut in Star Fox Zero.
Indeed, Star Fox as a whole has been largely missing in action on Virtual Console. Star Fox 64 was released on the Wii and the Wii U, but the original remains conspiciously unavailable. There is some confusion as to why this is the case, with speculation ranging from the built-in SFX chip being difficult to emulate to Argonaut demanding licensing fees. That it's included in the SNES Classic alongside its lost sequel makes this release all the more momentous.
Prominent gaming historian Frank Cifaldi, who recently founded the Video Game History Foundation, praised Nintendo's decision to dig into their catalog of unreleased games, and added that he hoped it would indeed be a feature complete version with an English language script. "As archivists, there's only so much we can do to help preserve history like this on our own. There is no way that a final version of [Star Fox 2] (assuming that's what this is) could have been seen by anyone without Nintendo finding a way to sell it, so this is good news for everybody. I don't honestly know how much unreleased material still exists over there, but hopefully the positive buzz this is getting will inspire others to dig through their vaults too."
Hopefully Nintendo does indeed seize the moment and release a master version of Star Fox 2, assuming it still exists. Regardless, it's great to see them use the SNES Classic as more than an opportunity to cash in on the same games we've seen time and again.

Game of Thrones is a wildly unpredictable show with very predictable fans
Game of Thrones is a triple threat: great acting, excellent visual design, and twisting drama that’s consistently shocking and surprising. But it turns out that the opinions of the show’s fans are far easier to guess.
Tech Insider recently tapped review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes for a poll on a variety of Game of Thrones topics. More than 1,000 fans were asked to pick their favorite season, the show’s saddest death, its greatest hero, and more. But the surprising thing about these poll results is how fiercely they buck the strength of the show itself: they’re all predictable and conventional.
Take the show’s most shocking death, for example: Ned Stark won with 25 percent of the vote, with Jon Snow (18 percent) and Robb Stark (14 percent) trailing behind. In season 1, Daenerys is set up as a major character, but the Starks are treated as the show’s First Family, and Ned is as close to a main character as a revolving-cast show can have. The first season gives special attention to his family, his struggles in King’s Landing, and his righteous crusade to return the throne to its correct heir. And then Joffrey’s executioner chops off his head.
Ned’s death is a key moment in Game of Thrones, because it sends an important message to fans: anyone can be killed, as Ned’s daughter Arya would say. But more importantly, Ned’s death flips the traditional notion of a hero’s quest on its head. Ned is a good man with a righteous cause. But that isn’t enough to save him, or any character in the Game of Thrones universe. Author George R.R. Martin and the showrunners expanded on this idea in further seasons, with the death of characters like Robb Stark (slaughtered at a wedding, alongside his men, his mother, and his pregnant wife); Jon Snow (betrayed by his own men); or Oberyn Martell (head smashed like a melon as he tried to avenge his murdered sister). Where traditional stories would see all these men vindicated, their foes rightly punished, Martin prefers to break everyone’s hearts.
Oberyn doesn’t even crack the poll’s top three in shocking deaths, but in spite of what the poll-takers think, his demise is no less surprising than Ned’s or Robb’s. His character is introduced with a vendetta in mind, and he seems capable enough to accomplish it. During his fight with his murderer, Gregor Clegane (known as the Mountain), Oberyn easily has the upper hand — until he doesn’t. And in an instant, it’s over. In theory, his death is far less foreshadowed than Jon’s, because Jon has done a standup job of pissing off vindictive members of the Night’s Watch for several seasons. And he was raised with the Starks, a family that loses members left and right.
Fans share similarly unsurprising ideas about the show’s villains, love or hate them. Polled about Game of Thrones’ most satisfying death, they picked Joffrey (44 percent) and Ramsay Bolton (35 percent). No one else is even mentioned. It makes sense that those two men are universally despised. Neither character has any redeeming quality. They share a taste for torture, and they murder for entertainment. They’re petulant children who feel they deserve the vast, dangerous power that’s been handed to them. Joffrey’s death is perhaps no less quick or violent than say, Ned’s. But unlike the Stark patriarch, there’s a sense that the boy king has gotten what he deserves. It’s a long time coming.
And the poll winner for greatest villain is a logical choice, too. Cersei Lannister (44 percent, compared to a 22 percent vote for Ramsay) is a compelling foe because her character is complex, and at times, even relatable. She’s selfish and cruel, but she also acts out of love for her family and a desire to strike back against a patriarchy that’s dictated her entire life. She’s Game of Thrones’ best villain by a long shot, because she’s a perfect anti-hero — the kind of character whose successes are satisfying, even when that means blowing up one of the show’s best characters.
Game of Thrones has long been about eviscerating fans’ expectations and wishes, unapologetically, and often with bloody flair. But these common opinions among watchers point to an endearing trend, a shared idea of what constitutes good, evil, interesting, and ideal, even when the models for these ideas are far more nuanced than a single word can convey. Just look at the poll’s top alliance of Daenerys and Tyrion, compared to Jamie Lannister and Brienne, or Arya and the Hound. Dany and Tyrion are a slam-dunk for a good-guy team-up, where the other two duos have…complications. Jamie is as much of a miscreant as anyone, but he’s come a long way since he chucked a child out of a window. Over the course of six seasons, he’s demonstrated a real devotion to his family, and a loyalty to idealistic characters like Brienne.
Game of Thrones is a wildly unpredictable show with very predictable fans
Arya and the Hound, meanwhile, are the show’s best odd couple. Once dedicated to murdering the Hound, Arya seems to come around to Joffrey’s fire-fearing former pet. But when the Hound is gravely injured and begs for Arya to finish him off, Arya refuses. She leaves him to die, slowly, alone, with seemingly no remorse. It’s a cold move from any angle, as the two have built a strange sort of bond over the course of their travels.
And then there’s the character viewers most want to see on the Iron Throne: Daenerys. Dany is more devoted to justice than most of Game Of Thrones’ characters. Her desire to rule is coupled with her moves to free slaves and liberate cities. But even her quest has led to bloodshed, and her taking over cities is its own kind of colonization. Even her mission to rule Westeros — a land she barely remembers, that doesn’t seem to want her — could be placed on the same ambitious pedestal shared by characters like Cersei. Sure, she’s far more likely to be a kind of just queen, but she’s burning bodies to get there.
Dany taking back her birthright, the seat she’s craved for what will eventually be eight entire seasons, would be one of the show’s best chances at completing a traditional hero arc: a character claiming what is rightfully “theirs.” It’s the closest thing this show can have to a happy ending. That’s also the easiest explanation for why we might not get it. But viewers holding out for Dany’s coronation is a reminder that people still want the fairy tale ending the show has worked so hard to subvert. Even after six years of one savage disappointment after another, fans still have hope.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper X390/X399 release date, specs news: Monster CPU
The wait for AMD's (Advanced Micro Devices) most powerful central processing unit (CPU) chips will soon be over. With June coming to a close, techies are getting closer and closer to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper X390/X399 release on July 27.
Personal computers with the 16-core and 12-core versions of the CPU will hit the racks on the said date, according to PC World. Alienware has exclusive rights to the chips but they are expected to be available in most U.S. boutiques.
Prices are still unannounced. Last May 28, MobiPicker shared a screenshot showing the CPU's listing on Skroutz. The listing contained basic specifications but the detailed information which includes the price was marked unavailable.
PC World places it on the same league as Intel's new Core i9 lineup. Intel charges $1,000 for a 10-core chip, $1,700 for a 16-core, and $2,000 for an 18-core. There is a possibility that AMD will charge around the same price but then, they may also stick to their normal pricing. If the latter happens, an aggressive price war will surely ensue as AMD has more affordable prices with their Ryzen 8-core processors being sold only at $300.
PC World claims to be the most reliable source for consumers interested in purchasing the AMD Ryzen Threadripper X390/X399. According to the retail chain, all other reports about the processor's specifications may look legitimate but are only speculations. PC World also highlighted that other sources could not even get the CPU name right.
The only specifications that PC World released are the following. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper X390/X399 will come in two versions — a 16-core option with 32 threads using STM and 64 lanes of PCIe, and a 12-core version with 24 thread using SMT. All versions come with quad-channel memory and made with solder thermal interface material. The processor will be released in X399 platform and their motherboards will not be compatible with AMD's Epyc chips.
Things in the CPU market are going to be interesting as Intel and AMD will play an intense core war. However, consumers should not assume that the more cores, the better the performance of a processor is. PC World recommends that the number of cores you need should depend on what you do on your personal computer. For instance, heavy gamers would obviously need a chip with more cores.

India skipper Mithali Raj set a new record by smashing seventh consecutive ODI half-century against England in an ICC Women's World Cup match at County Ground in Derby on Saturday.

India's top three — Smriti Mandhana, Punam Raut and Mithali Raj — all slammed half-centuries each as India posted a huge target of 281/3 in their tournament opener. [ads-post] This was Mithali's seventh consecutive half-century, bettering the likes of Lindsay Reeler (Australia), Ellyse Perry (Australia) and Charlotte Edwards (England), all of whom slammed six back-to-back fifties each in the past.

But Mithali went one better than these stalwarts in her innings of 71 off 73 deliveries, which also included eight glorious boundaries.

These are Mitali's scores in her last seven ODIs, including this match against England — 71 vs England, 62* vs South Africa, 54 vs South Africa, 51* vs South Africa, 73* vs Bangladesh, 64 vs South Africa and 70* vs Sri Lanka.

Also, this is Mithali's 47 ODI fifty, which is also the highest in women's cricket history. Meanwhile, the India skipper is also just 148 runs away from becoming the first women's cricketer ever to slam 6000 ODI runs.
ICC Women's World Cup 2017: Mithali Raj Shatters World Record
Known for her flamboyant batting style, Indian women’s cricket team skipper Mithali Raj has scored heaps of runs in her international career. Mithali who was attending the opening dinner and media roundtable event came up with a perfect reply when a reporter asked about her favourite ‘male’ player.
Raj said, “Do you ask the same question to a male cricketer? Do you ask them who their favourite female cricketer is?” she said to the journalist in question. “I have always been asked who’s your favourite cricketer but you should ask them who their favourite female cricketer is.” Surely, it was not her willow but her words that were spot on.
Hailing BCCI’s effort to promote women’s cricket, the skipper appreciated the improvements made by the board in the last two home series.
“There’s a lot of difference because we are not a regular on television. Now the BCCI has made an effort that the last two home series have been televised and social media has improved a lot of it but there is a still a lot of catch-up to do in terms of recognition,” she said.
Talking about men’s cricket, Mithali said that it sets a certain bar where the women cricketers seek to reach.
“Men’s cricket sets the bar. We are always trying to reach where they set the standard. All of us follow men’s cricket because we want at some point that women’s cricket would be up there,” she said. “All of us at some point have been coached by a male cricketer. I strongly believe that they get a lot of intensity into the training sessions. They are very hard taskmasters.”
Mentioning about the role of coaches, Raj told that there should be someone who is tough task taskmaster so that the girls really put in the intensity in their training sessions.
“I believe that if you are representing your country, your country should get the best of the best. It’s nothing to do with women coaches [who] don’t have the ability, they do. but if you really want to push the team to the highest level, you need to have somebody who is a tough taskmaster so that the girls really put in the intensity in their training sessions and they carry that into the main tournaments.”
India begin the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 quest on June 24 against hosts England.

Rory MacDonald threw a bucket of cold water on Bellator’s welterweight title fight Saturday night, just seconds after it happened. [ads-post] The top 170-pound fighter, who should be in line for a title fight next, slammed the performances of Douglas Lima and Lorenz Larkin at Bellator NYC at Madison Square Garden. Lima ended up winning a unanimous decision against the very tough UFC veteran. But MacDonald wanted to see more.
Rory MacDonaldI was really underwhelmed,” MacDonald said on the broadcast. “I was expecting a good fight. I had a lot of excitement going into this fight. Larkin is an excellent fighter. If these guys think they’re keeping a belt fighting like that against me, it’s not gonna happen. I’m gonna take these guys out. They’re just gonna be another body in the grave.”

After the win, Lima told MacDonald to “come get it” and said that MacDonald has been in tough fights in the past, but won’t know a real tough fight until he steps in the cage with him.
“The Red King” is likely to get that shot against Lima, one of Bellator’s best fighters historically, sometime in the fall. MacDonald, 27, won his Bellator debut against Paul Daley by second-round submission in May. The Canadian owns wins over current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, as well as Nate Diaz, BJ Penn and Demian Maia.
Speaking to Mike Goldberg and Josh Thomson on the desk, MacDonald explained that he’s done fighting cautiously and wants to let his true ability come out.
“This is the next chapter in my career,” MacDonald said. “I’m not playing games anymore. i’m coming forward, I’m doing my style now. I’m not playing games. I’m not point fighting anymore. I’m there to take you out. I’m hunting you down, and I’m gonna bury you and that’s it.”
MacDonald (19-4) came close to beating Robbie Lawler at UFC 189 in 2015, a fight that many believe is one of the best in UFC history. MacDonald lost his next bout to Stephen Thompson and then departed the UFC as a free agent for Bellator.
Now, he is angling for that promotion’s welterweight title. And he believes it could be around his waist soon if Lima fights the way he did Saturday night.
“That was not up to par, that’s for sure,” MacDonald said.

A fresh leak from Chinese microblogging site Weibo claims the next-gen Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 smartphones will feature two different processor chipsets. [ads-post]
A leaked Samsung internal message suggests the S9 will be powered by a 10nm chipset-based Exynos 9810 processor while the Note 9 will have a 7nm or 8nm chipset fabrication for the same Exynos processor.
With a slimmer die fabrication process, the Note 9 will be a relatively better handset than the S9 with reduced power consumption and better energy efficiency. Samsung was taken by surprise when Qualcomm decided to ditch its partnership and opted for TSMC built 7nm processor SoCs for next-gen Snapdragon processors.
Galaxy Note 9 and S9
Consequently, Samsung has opted out of its collaboration with Qualcomm to keep the 10nm-based chipsets in business and thereby averted potential monetary losses. The company is expected to mass produce either 7nm or 8nm SoCs for the Note 9 alone, instead of dumping the 10nm SoCs.

Earlier this year, Lenovo added its new Tab 4 series to the Tab lineup. Starting today, the Tab 4 8 and the Tab 4 10 is on pre-order in the US for $129.99 and $179.99 respectively.
Lenovo Tab 4 series
Both models share similar specifications except for the screen size. Both pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, 2 GB RAM along with 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 256 GB via microSD card. [ads-post] Android 7.1 (Nougat) comes out of the box in both variants. Both feature a 5 MP rear camera and a 2 MP selfie shooter.
The only difference between the Tab 4 8 and Tab 4 10 is that the Tab 4 8 has an 8-inch display while the later has a 10.1-inch screen. Both also have the same resolution of 1280x800 using an IPS panel.
Amazon and Newegg are the first ones to start the pre-order of these tablets. While Amazon will ship the ordered tablet "within 2 to 5 weeks", Newegg will start shipping on June 30. Folks can order any of them from the links given below.

Google Maps is not reliable in India, or at least that is what the Indian government sustains. According to Survey of India, a governmental agency designed to do the mapping and surveying of the countries’ territory, Google Earth and Google Maps are not accurate and have not been authenticated in India. The agency has designed a map for Indian citizens. It is free and approved by the government.
[ads-post]
It is widely known that India and Cambodia have protested against Google Maps previously, for not accurately presenting their borders.  Cambodia has also made allegations against Google with respect to their Thai-Cambodian border, which according to them was misleading and not accurate. Apart from the diplomatic issue, the Indian Government considers that these apps could be used to find a restaurant, but not other important buildings.
Do Not Rely On Google Maps If You Are In India
The web mapping service provided by the American corporation Google offers satellite images, panoramic views, analyses traffic conditions on the spot, has a route planning system and a street view option. You can download the Google Maps app on your phone and use it to go by car, by foot or by public transportation.
It is hard to say if Indian citizens will obey the Indian government and use their own created version of maps or they will continue to use Google Maps. According to them, the traffic system in India is very complex and therefore the topographic data need to be constructed with the help of engineers. Also they advertise that the maps made by Survey of India will be cost-free and reliable to all citizens. There are no explanations as to how the app will be updates and how often. The reactions online were not so positive and it seems that not many are thrilled with the Indian government’s requirement.

Oliver’s twist: Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver in Twitter spat with former cricketer Damien Martyn

CLAYTON Oliver appears to be embracing suggestions he took a dive against West Coast on Sunday night.

Not only has the Melbourne midfielder changed his Twitter profile picture to shine a light on the incident, but he has also taken aim at Australian cricket great Damien Martyn.
Oliver copped an elbow to the chin from Eagle Will Schofield during a heated scuffle on Saturday evening and fell to ground, leading to suggestions that he dived.
Post-game, Oliver refused to concede that he acted.
Martyn, who is a West Coast supporter and played 67 Tests and 208 one-day internationals for Australia, lashed out at Oliver via social media, only for the second-year footballer to remind the 2003 World Cup winner of a moment he would rather forget.
Martyn was famously made the scapegoat in a painful five-run defeat to South Africa at the SCG in 1994, when he was the second last man dismissed in Australia’s unsuccessful pursuit of just 117.
In just over 100 minutes of batting, Martyn made six from 58 balls as the Aussies reached 8-75. They were just seven runs away from winning when Donald lulled him into a false shot.
“We’d lost a Test match. I blamed myself. I felt it was my fault, even though I made 50-odd (59) in the first innings and the wicket wasn’t great that final day,” Martyn told News Limited in 2013.
“I batted for ages and was gutsing it out. As a young bloke, I watched all these legends getting out.
“I didn’t bat well for a couple of years so it took me a while to get my passion back. I didn’t think I’d make it back to Test cricket at that point.”
An elegant right-hander who ended up having a distinguished career for Western Australia and Australia, Martyn wafted at an Allan Donald delivery and was caught at cover.
The media heavily criticised the 23-year-old and so did the selectors, leading to a six-year exile from the Test team.
