Motorola Moto Z2 Play Review [With Video]: With Moto Mods, It’s the Real Flagship Killer

Moto Z phones along with Moto Mods were a welcome break from the regular spec sheet race last year. While the ‘modular’ Moto Z series phones are competitively priced, Moto Mods are expensive. To this, Managing Director of Motorola Mobility India Sudhin Mathur said, “Innovation comes at a price. You decide whether you want more RAM or something really new and innovative.”

While the older Moto Z Play smartphone is still selling for Rs 24,999, the second generation, Moto Z2 Play, offers a better design and upgraded hardware for the price of Rs 27,999. Both the Moto Z Play phones essentially focus on the overall "modular" experience in a budget rather than just a mere spec-sheet comparisons. So, what can a first-time Moto Mod user expect and should Moto Z Play users upgrade to the latest edition? Let’s find out in this review.

google docs to wordpressWe love WordPress, but it can also be frustrating sometimes when it doesn’t work flawlessly with another platform or integration. A lot of you are business owners and bloggers which have to deal with content creation for your sites on a regular basis. More often than not this is done via Google Docs because it is super easy for people to share drafts and collaborate in real-time for free. However, when it comes to moving from Google Docs to WordPress, this is where things get messy, as much of your formatting is lost or breaks. And it soon becomes a WordPress publisher’s nightmare. Check out these four tricks to help make working with Google Docs and WordPress a little easier.

The Issue With Google Docs and WordPress

It is no question that Google Docs is probably one of the most popular platforms when it comes to online document sharing and editing. Microsoft Office 365 is really its only competitor. In fact, if we take a look at Google Trends for “Google Docs,” you can see that over the past 5 years interest around it has been steadily increasing. Google Docs is completely free to use and that is why it has become a popular tool for content creators, bloggers, and writers.

So let’s dive into the real issue. Let’s say you hire a writer to put together an article for your blog. They put together the draft in a Google Doc and send you a link so you can take a look and approve it. Perhaps you make a few edits and then are ready to move it into your WordPress site. Typically you would simply copy and paste the contents from your Google Doc into the WordPress visual editor. But what happens, in reality, is that this results in all sorts of formatting issues.
Below is an example Google Doc we are going to use. So we select all the content and copy it to our clipboard.

Google Doc example
We then go over to our WordPress editor and paste it. The first issue you have is that typically there will be extra line breaks in-between paragraphs, even though in the Google Doc there is literally only one line break.

google doc exampleGoogle Docs to WordPress spacing issue
Google Docs to WordPress spacing issue
It gets worse though, if we take a look at the text and or code view of it, here is what it looks like. You can see that all of this extra unecessary code is being added.

google docs to wordpress span style font weight 400
Google Docs to WordPress span style issue
Extra lines breaks are being added inserting this code.

When you copy from Google Docs to WordPress it creates extra span styles everywhere.
<span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span>
When you copy from Google Docs to WordPress and have lists it creates extra font-weights styles.
<li style="font-weight: 400;">
So basically you are left with a mess in your code. And even if you ignore the code, which you shouldn’t, you would still have the line breaks everywhere. On a 2,000+ document this is a lot of backspacing to be done to fix it. And your are still left with underlying code which really should be fixed. This is a huge waste of time. It can also affect your performance. Yes, it is at a very minimal level, but even HTML makes up your overall total page weight. So what can you do about it? Well, follow the tricks below.
Note: It is important to know that Office 365 Word doesn’t have the same issue with span styles and font weight. However, it still has the spacing issues when copying across to the WordPress editor. Also, you might be wondering about images. Images don’t copy across either, but you should generally upload those separately anyways. Images should be compressed, as well as strategically naming the file for SEO purposes. That’s right, even image files names matter when it comes to SEO.

Google Docs to WordPress

It’s kind of surprising that these issues are still happening 2017, and we are curious why they aren’t being discussed more in the WordPress community. We personally know a lot of you writers out there are using Google Docs. We use it as well. Thankfully, there are a few tricks you can use to make your workflow from Google Docs to WordPress less painful and streamlined.

1. Trick to Clear Formatting

The first little trick is a little weird, but it works, and involves a simple copy and paste a couple times along with utilizing the clear formatting button. Follow the steps below to get quickly clean up the formatting.
Retain Google Docs to #WordPress formatting with this simple trick! 😂 Click to Tweet

Step 1

Copy and paste the contents from Google Docs into your WordPress Visual Editor as normal. Select your text and copy it again to your clipboard.

Step 2

It sounds weird, but create a new temporary blank post draft by clicking into “Add New” under posts in your dashboard. Then paste the content again from your first post that you just copied. When you paste this the second time it will automatically clean up the extra line breaks.

Step 3

Then copy and paste the contents from your temporary draft back into your original post. Highlight all of the content and click on the “Clear formatting” button in the visual toolbar editor. This will remove the span styles, and font weights. This trick retains all of the headers (h1, H2, H3, etc.). The only thing it doesn’t retain is the bold. If you need to retain every 100%, then check out trick 2 and 3.

And here is an example of the text and or code view after the steps above. As you can see, it is as clean as a whistle.

Now you can continue to work with writers and bloggers using Google Docs and it won’t slow down your workflow. All it takes is a simple copy and paste a couple times and using the clear formatting button.
For some of you, this may not matter that much. But for those of you who use both Google Docs and WordPress a lot, this might just be a lifesaver! We use this trick ourselves every day. When we originally went to find a solution we even were going as far as converting to Markdown and then moving back into WordPress. Little did we know, all it took was a simple copy and paste, plus clearing the formatting, which gets you to almost near perfect.

2. Use Wordable to Easily Move Google Docs to WordPress

The second option you have is to use a premium service called Wordable. This was actually created for the very problem we described above, and that is, there has not been a good solution to move Google Docs to WordPress. Basically with Wordable you can draft and collaborate in Google Docs as normal. When you are ready, there is a one-click button import to your WordPress site. It retains all your tags, headers, bold, bullets, italics, and even your images.
wordable
They have a free plan which allows you to give it a try. It comes with unlimited free exports for 24 hours and 2 free exports after that. You can hook it up to one WordPress site. If you need more exports and the ability to export to multiple WordPress sites the premium version is $19/month. While this does sound costly, if you use Google Docs on a daily basis, this service definitely pays for itself.
The two possible cons for some is that you have to give them access to your Google Drive as well as your WordPress site (with the plugin). This might be an issue for those concerned with security. We would personally love to see a 3rd party, standalone exporter. Follow the steps below on how to easily export from Google Docs to WordPress.

Step 1

Sign up over at Wordable for a free account. It will ask for permission to your Google Drive.

Step 2

Add your WordPress site under Settings and download and install the plugin.

Step 3

Search for the document in your Google Drive list and click on “Export to WordPress.” This will create a draft of the article on your WordPress site.

Step 4

Click on the “Published as Draft” link or visit your WordPress dashboard to examine the post.

And here is how it looks in the WordPress editor. All the formatting came across perfectly, no extra code. And even the image came across.

Also, as far as the images goes, when you upload an image to Google Docs, it actually does retain its filename. So if you instruct writers beforehand to name their images for SEO purposes, it will then follow through if you are exporting using Wordable.  Otherwise, if they don’t. We would recommend re-uploading all of your images, which could be a pain.

Images exported from Wordable also go directly to your WordPress media library which means they can be compressed with a third party image optimization plugin. As you can see, Wordable can be a very fast and effective option if you need something to export from Google Docs to WordPress and retain all the formatting.

3. Jetpack and Chrome Extension

Another solution is to use Jetpack, along with their free Chrome extension. One thing to be aware of though is that JetPack does add additional requests to your site, and it requires things such as XML-RPC and the JSON API to be enabled for it to function.

jetpack plugin

Step 1

You can download Jetpack from the WordPress repository, or by searching for it within your WordPress dashboard under “Add New” plugins.

Step 2

Upon activation you will need to connect Jetpack to WordPress.com.

Step 3

Then install the free WordPress.com to Google Docs Chrome extension. You will have to give it permission to access your documents.

Step 4

Then in Google Docs click on “Add-ons” and select “WordPress.com for Google Docs.” Then on the right hand side you can click on “Save” and it will create a post in your WordPress site.

4. Give Writers a WordPress Account

The last option you have is to simply create WordPress accounts for your writers and require that they create everything entirely within the WordPress editor. For some, this might be a better solution, but there are also a lot of companies that don’t want to have to worry about managing author accounts.
WordPress essentially contains six different user roles. For authors and writers you will probably want to choose one of the following, based upon what you want them to have access to:
  • Author: somebody who can publish and manage their own posts.
  • Contributor: somebody who can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them.
To create an account for a writer simply click on “Add New” under Users in your WordPress dashboard and assign the role you want them to have.

Give writer access to your site
You could even take this a step further with a permissions plugin like the User Role Editor. But even with correct roles and permissions setup, letting more people access to your WordPress dashboard still weakens your overall security. Just make sure you are careful when adding accounts for people you don’t know.

Summary

If you work with writers who use Google Docs a lot, or perhaps you are a writer, hopefully, one of the above tricks and recommendations will help speed up your workflow. And perhaps one day we can simply copy and paste directly from Google Docs to WordPress without having to do anything! The team at Wordable definitely have the right idea going.

The Yaris then comes into a segment which has established players but Toyota is making sure that the car gets features that differentiate it from the crowd. Ahead of the car's launch in May 2018, the feature list and the variants of the Toyota Yaris have been leaked.

The Ford Freestyle uses design elements common to more expensive mini SUVs. And it all begins with a unique grille with a dynamic, three-dimensional mesh. The front bumper of the vehicle has an integrated skid plate and sculpted fascia sections that create a protective full-width beam element, accentuating Freestyle’s SUV looks and credentials. The Freestyle will come paired with Ford’s all-new, three-cylinder 1.2L TiVCT petrol engine that is small, light, strong and delivers outstanding fuel efficiency.
The naturally aspirated engine will generate best-in-class 96 PS of peak power and 120 Nm of torque to deliver Ford’s fun-to-drive DNA. Consumers will continue to have a choice to opt for Ford’s trusted 1.5L TDCi diesel engine that generates class-leading 100 PS peak power and 215 Nm of torque. Freestyle will deliver sportier performance in all driving conditions and will feature a uniquely tuned suspension with increased track-width, high ground clearance, TCS, ABS with EBD and uniquely tuned EPAS among others.
The Freestyle will continue Ford’s leadership on safety, offering up to six airbags. “Freestyle represents our vision of a compact utility vehicle that delivers more on every count and is all set to surpass expectations of consumers, who want and expect more,” said Vinay Raina, executive director of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford India. “With Freestyle, we are sure to delight consumers with a combination of compelling and capable features.”

This 4-cylinder 1000 cc motorcycle was built by an enthusiast with no engineering degree
Not everyone can afford 1,000 cc superbikes, what with the cheapest ones costing close to a million rupees. While most of us simply give up on our superbike dreams due to the exorbitant costs involved, one man decided that he wouldn’t. Meet Riddhesh Vyas, of Rajkot – Gujarat, who built himself a 1,000 cc, four cylinder chopper. It took him 8 long years to put his dreams into two wheeled reality, part by part. And it’s called the Ridd.
What’s the Ridd all about? The Ridd is a 1,000 cc chopper that Riddhesh built with a lot of hand-made parts. Apart from the 1,000 cc, four cylinder engine, the hydraulic systems and tyres, everything on the bike’s said to be hand-made. It’s styled to be a chopper, with kicked out front forks, a long wheelbase, a total length of about 9 feet and relaxed ergonomics. The custom ride has massive street presence, and weighs a considerable 400 Kgs. Despite not having a formal degree in engineering or design, Riddhesh pulled off this bike building feat thanks to his extensive experience in the metal working industry. The man has a metal business, and this experience allowed him to fabricate parts for the Ridd. Here’s a short video that explains how the Ridd came about. A bike nut, Riddhesh began nurturing his passion for two wheels by servicing his motorcycles by himself. This hands-on experience helped him while building the Ridd. The man also noted the best features of high end bikes, and implemented them on his custom build. Some such features are the hydraulic clutch, single side swing arm at the rear and a swing arm based suspension system for the front end. The bike can hit a top speed of about 170 Kph.
How much? Over the 8 years that it took for this project to translate from dream to reality, Riddhesh claims to have spent about 8 lakh rupees. While that’s a considerable amount of money, the sheer joy of finding your creation in the Limca book of records is priceless. Yes, this bike has made it to the record books as India’s first hand-made superbike.

Toyota wayToyota is known for its manufacturing efficiency. We’ve probably all heard that if a worker on the Camry line sees a problem, they have the authority to stop the line and address it. At the end of the day, teams meet to discuss what went wrong and what fixes actually fixed things. It’s called the Toyota Production System, or TPS, and, like any tech cult, it’s got lots of lingo and acronyms. (Try throwing around “Let’s kaizen this” if you want to seem in the know.) But it also can work for a startup as easily as it can work for the massive automotive manufacturer.

The point of TPS is to create a culture where problems are not repeated in order to achieve the end goal of improving quality. That’s as applicable to apps as it is to automobiles. In an interview after the panel, Bonini outlined the basics of the system, which has three parts:

Jamie Bonini, the vice president of the Toyota Production System Support Center, preaches the TPS gospel to organizations in North America and, recently, Australia. He’s worked with small manufacturers, hospitals and government agencies to teach them how to use Toyota’s principles in their particular settings. “You start with the customer,” Bonini said during a panel at the Aspen Ideas Festival. “Are they getting what they want? Then you work back from there.”

  • The philosophy that the customer needs to be served by the process and that the people who create the widget — whether that’s a car or a car-sharing app — are the most valuable resource in the organization.
  • The use of tech tools to establish flow through entire organization — and to halt that flow when necessary. Managers need to develop their teams so that the people closest to the problem can solve that problem.
  • The application of engineering and design to understand that flow, from the overall project plan to the precise sequence of steps required to complete a task. This can be reviewed every day or every week, but it needs to be revisited often.

These pillars, Bonini said, are “timeless.” Advanced technology can make the TPS system work better, but the focus on people — both those in the organization and the customer at the end of the process — remains an important part of the triangle.

“All three pieces of TPS must work,” Bonini said. “A lot of business leaders have never heard of all three pieces; they put all their emphasis on the tech tools.” Whether you’re in a 10-person startup or a 1,000-employee hospital, these three principals should work together to create a culture of trust and innovation.

Oh, and kaizen, for the record, is the process of changing things for the better, or in business terms, continuously improving the system at every step and every level.

Faraday Future answers mounting challenges with high-profile CTO hireFaraday Future is an electric car company with a very uncertain future, following news that it would be ending its effort to build an assembly plant for its vehicles in Nevada. The company’s primary backer, China’s LeEco, is in dire financial straits, and the would-be Tesla challenger is facing its own heat as a result. Now, however, the company is revealing a big-name hire – Ulrich Kranz, who previously headed BMW’s electric “i” series vehicle program, is joining as Chief Technical Officer.
Kranz’s long history at the German automaker makes the sudden shift to the untested and beleaguered FF all the more noteworthy; he’s hardly a callous climber, jumping from stunt hire to stunt hire. Still, there’s little doubt that Faraday considers this hire a strategic move – it’s a rare spot of good news for a company that has had precious little of that of late.
The addition of Kranz gives Faraday a new lead for its research and development, manufacturing, engineering and purchasing operations, the company tells me. He joins the company after a 30-year career at BMW, where he spent the past 10 years overseeing the i series, including the i3 and i8, BMW’s first dedicated EVs. Before that, Kranz led the MINI line, as well as product development across multiple areas at the automaker in previous roles.

Faraday also says that it’s “nearing the end” of a search for a turn-key manufacturing option, after being forced to walk away from its custom-built Nevada facility. Going with an existing manufacturing facility will help it keep costs down and add some runway, as it seeks to get its initial FF 91 sport sedan to market. The automaker unquestionably still faces huge challenges, and I still wouldn’t call its prospects promising, but Kranz’s hire is an interesting development nonetheless.

Hyundai launching its semi self-driving features earlier than plannedThe race to bring self-driving features to market is stepping up in a big way, now that GM’s Super Cruise is set to arrive in the Cadillac CT6 later this year, and Audi has announced it’ll ship its Level 3 self-driving tech in the next A8. Hyundai is speeding up its own timeline for commercialization of its “Highway Driving Assist 2” (HDA2) semi-autonomous features as a result.
The introduction of HDA2 will “minimize intervention by drivers,” according to Hyundai speaking to the Electronic Times. The tech “nears level 3 on freeways” according to the company, and its introduction will help to achieve the carmaker’s goals of commercializing fully autonomous vehicles for consumers by 2022.
The HDA2 system is properly considered a Level 2 autonomous feature, similar to Tesla’s Autopilot. The software handles speed and stops in highway driving conditions, and also handles changing to a crossroad, entering a junction, and merging onto a main road automatically when a driver indicates their intent to do so via their turn signal.

Hyundai had self-driving tech on display at CES, and has espoused a lightweight approach in terms of computing and sensor types in favor of detailed maps to keep costs down for consumers. The company is not generally perceived as a leader in the space, however, and deploying this tech earlier than intended could help it make up ground thanks to data collection efforts.

2018 Honda Accord offers more gears, more spaceHonda’s top-selling family car is completely redone for 2018 and promises greater efficiency and comfort, though some long-time customers might notice something big missing.

2018 Honda Accord Engine
  • Honda redesigned its best-selling sedan for 2018, and it now boasts a lighter body, new powertrains, plenty of tech and standard safety features and a sportier design.
  • The all-new 10th generation Accord was debuted with a longer wheelbase, lower height, wider body and a lower seating position.
  • The redesigned 2018 Accord features a long, low hood, a chrome wing grille, large air intake and available full LED headlights, fog lights and taillights.
  • Along with its sportier design, the 2018 Accord welcomes a lighter, more rigid body and new chassis design.
  • Honda now offers the choice of two new turbocharged gas engines or its improved two-motor hybrid system.
Honda is hoping the new Accord, due in showrooms in the fall, will reverse the car's sales decline. Through June, sales fell 5.5 percent compared with last year as U.S. buyers shun midsize cars in favor of SUVs. Sales of all midsize cars combined were down nearly 18 percent during the first half of the year, and the midsize sedan's share of the market has dropped from 16 percent five years ago to just under 11 percent, according to Kelley Blue Book. Still, Honda sold more than 345,000 Accords last year.

2018 Honda Accord Front Left
  • The new 2018 Accord offers more power from either a 1.5-liter or a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected, four-cylinder gas engine, producing 192 horsepower and 252 horsepower, respectively.
2018 Honda Accord Badge
  • For all 2018 Accords, Honda Sensing safety and driver assist technology now comes standard—think collision mitigation braking system, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with low speed follow and traffic sign recognition.
The new version, unveiled Friday, is just under an inch lower than the outgoing model, and the distance between the wheels is more than two inches longer. That gives it more 2.5 cubic feet more of interior room and one added cubic foot of trunk space. The 2018 version is 110 to 176 pounds lighter as well, depending on options. The overall length slightly shorter than the outgoing model at 192.1 inches.

Gone is a V6 engine option, replaced by two turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The base four is 1.5 liters and it puts out 192 horsepower with a continuously variable transmission. There's also an optional 2-Liter four with 252 horsepower mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. A gas-electric hybrid version also is available.

2018 Honda Accord Rear Right
  • Blind spot assist, front and rear park sensors, cross traffic monitor and driver awareness monitor are also available for the redesigned Accord.

That would be the Accord’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine, a powerful choice on upper trim levels that snarls and delivers snappy acceleration. In its place is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 252 horsepower and paired with a Honda-designed 10-speed automatic, the first of its kind in a front-wheel drive car. Honda claims the new engine’s greater torque, the transmission’s improved gearing, and a stiffer chassis — that’s up to 176 pounds lighter — will translate to impressive performance, although we’re going to miss that sweet six.

2018 Honda Accord Dashboard
  • Inside, the new Accord gets bigger and more tech savvy, featuring a new eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with available head up display, wireless device charging and 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity.
2018 Honda Accord Rear Seat
  • Thanks to its longer wheelbase, the 2018 Accord offers even more cargo space than the previous generation, up to 16.7 cubic-feet behind the rear seat.
2018 Honda Accord Rear Right Quarter
  • Available in six trims and a choice of a gas or hybrid powetrain, the redesigned 2018 Honda Accord will go on sale this fall.
The 10th generation of the Accord will have Honda's safety technology suite, which includes automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance, standard on all models.

All the improvements may make the car great, but they likely won't help sales much as the market shift continues, said Jack Nerad, executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book. "While we expect the new Accord to be a technological, design and engineering success, it's unlikely to be the sales success that its predecessor was," Nerad said.

Price, gas mileage and the exact sale date were not released.

The Accord has grown tremendously in size and power since the first hatchback Accord made its debut in 1976. That car was nearly 30 inches shorter and had a four-cylinder engine that put out only 68 horsepower.

SBI to cut NEFT, RTGS charges by up to 75%The reduced charges will be applicable on the transactions done through internet banking (INB) and mobile banking (MB) services offered by the bank, bank sources said.
The reduced charges will make transactions done through bank's internet banking and mobile banking cheaper
New Delhi : In a push to digital payments, state-owned lender SBI will cut charges on electronic transfer of funds through NEFT and RTGS by up to 75 per cent from Saturday, benefiting nearly 5.27 crore customers, a release said on Thursday.

“The reduced charges will be applicable on the transactions done through internet banking (INB) and mobile banking (MB) services offered by the bank,” it said while releasing the revised NEFT and RTGS charges from July 15.
A day after it waived charges on Immediate Payment System (IMPS) transactions of up to Rs 1,000, State Bank of India (SBI) on Thursday lowered transaction charges on transfers made through the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) channels.
As per the revised schedule, the NEFT charges on fund transfer up to Rs 10,000 has been halved to Re 1, and to Rs 2 for up to Rs 1 lakh. For transfers between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, the NEFT charge will be reduced to Rs 3 from the existing Rs 12.

The charge above Rs 2 lakh has been fixed at Rs 5 as against the current Rs 20. For RTGS transactions, the charges will be Rs 5 for transactions between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
NEFT transactions of up to Rs 10,000 will now attract a charge of Rs 1, transactions between Rs 1,001 and Rs 1 lakh will be charged at Rs 2, those between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh will be charged Rs 3, while transactions involving higher amounts will be charged Rs 5. Earlier, these charges were Rs 2, Rs 4, Rs 12 and Rs 20, respectively.
Currently, the bank charges Rs 20 for such transaction. If a customer transfers more than Rs 5 lakh through the RTGS channel, he will be charged Rs 10 as against Rs 40 currently.

There are different charges if the fund transfers are made in bank branches through executives.

All the new charges will attract GST rate of 18 per cent. The country’s largest lender has also waived charges for fund transfer of up to Rs 1,000 done through Immediate Payment Service (IMPS).
RTGS transactions of between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh will now be charged Rs 5, as against Rs 20 earlier, and those involving higher amounts will be charged Rs 10, down from Rs 40 earlier. The new charges, which are exclusive of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), will come into effect on Saturday. They will be applicable only to transfers made through internet or mobile banking.
“In sync with our strategy and complementing the focus of Government of India to create a digital economy, we have taken one more step to promote use of internet banking and mobile banking for doing NEFT and RTGS transactions by reduction of the charges,” said Rajnish Kumar, Managing Director, State Bank of India.

At March-end, SBI had 3.27 crore Internet Banking customers and nearly 2 crore Mobile Banking customers.

SBI Ecowrap, the bank's research unit, said, "If demonetization had not happened, it would have taken three years more for credit and debit cards transactions on point of sales (PoS) terminals to reach the current level of Rs 70,000 crore (assuming a yearly growth rate of 25%). We believe that increasing number of PoS terminals (post demonetization, banks have been able to set-up 11.8 lakh extra PoS terminals) and ease of doing digital transaction will increase this level further. Similar trends are observed in the case of usage of pre-paid instruments (include m-wallet, PPI cards and paper vouchers) and mobile banking, too. PPI witnessed a sharp growth with transactions value worth Rs 10700 crore in May 2017 compared with Rs 5,100 crore in November 2016.

SBI is one of the top 50 global banks and the largest commercial bank in India in terms of assets, deposits, profits, branches, customers and employees. The company had deposit base of Rs 25.85 lakh crore as on March 31 this year.

Volvo to make only hybrid, electric cars from 2019
Volvo India has announced the launch of the all-new V90 Cross Country estate wagon on July 12th, 2017. The Volvo V90 Cross Country is the only luxury estate wagon in India with off-roading capabilities and tons of safety features.

Volvo recently organized a media drive for the V90 and we drove the car to understand what’s the product all about. And we came out impressed with the overall treatment of the product by Volvo. Not only it looks different and unique, the V90 also has AWD and radar based safety system called the Intellisafe system.

Every new Volvo will be a hybrid or electric car after 2019
Volvo is betting the company on hybrid and electric cars.

[ Volvo models will be hybrids or battery-powered electric vehicles.

The company will continue selling the gasoline-powered car models it already has on the market. But all of Volvo’s new cars will have electric motors — including five fully electric vehicles Volvo expects to introduce between 2019 and 2021.

“This announcement marks the end of the solely combustion engine-powered car,” said Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson in a company press release. The company hopes that a decisive shift toward battery-powered vehicles will allow it to meet its goal of producing a cumulative total of a million electrified vehicles by 2025.

This is a particularly bold move because right now, hybrid and battery-powered electric cars account for a tiny fraction of the global car market. Hybrids accounted for about 2 percent of the US car market in 2016, for example. But experts expect explosive growth in these numbers over the next decade.

Until recently, high battery costs have forced carmakers to choose between making unaffordable electric cars — like Tesla’s $69,500 Model S — or skimp on battery capacity and make cars whose range and power compare unfavorably to cars with conventional gasoline-powered engines.

But battery costs are plunging. Prices fell by almost 80 percent between 2010 and 2016. And with manufacturers in China and elsewhere preparing to dramatically boost battery production, we can expect economies of scale to push prices down even more over the next few years.

As a result, the economics of electric-powered vehicles have gotten a lot more favorable. Batteries have gotten cheap enough that all-electric cars like the Chevy Bolt and the new Tesla Model 3 can boast more than 200 miles of range and sell for around $35,000. And if battery prices continue falling, we’ll eventually reach a point where electric cars — with their relatively simple electric motors and low-cost electric power — actually cost less to own than a conventional car with its more complex internal combustion engine. One 2016 study projected that we could reach this point as early as 2022.

At that point, the companies with the best electric-powered cars will have a big advantage over companies that are still mostly selling cars with internal combustion engines. Electric cars will be greener, more convenient, and less expensive to own. The stock market is so bullish about this strategy that it has valued Tesla on par with conventional car companies like GM and Ford that sold about 100 times as many cars in 2016.

Volvo wants to catch the same wave Tesla is riding. Tesla has set a goal to produce 500,000 electric cars per year in 2018 and a million in 2020. Volvo’s goal is much less ambitious: the company hopes to produce a total of 1 million cars over the next eight years. Volvo set this goal last year, and it now looks relatively conservative in light of Volvo’s all-electric push. The company sold 534,000 vehicles in 2016, so if it shifts most of its sales to electric vehicles in the early 2020s it will sell a lot more than a million electric cars by 2025.

In any event, ending development of conventional cars with internal combustion engines will put Volvo on a solid footing if electricity proves to be the future of the auto industry.]

The V90 Cross Country is equipped with the Volvo’s D5 engine that is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor with 235 HP power and 480 Nm torque output. The engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox.

To reduce the turbo lag in the car, Volvo has equipped the estate wagon with a Power Pulse Technology that houses an air cannister to give extra boost to engine before the hot air from thr turbo kicks in, reducing the lag in the car.

We told exclusively that the Volvo V90 Cross Country could be priced for Rs 64-67 lakhs and will be placed in between the Volvo S90 sedan and the XC90 SUV.

Volvo will introduce five electric cars by 2021 and offer hybrid options across its product line, promising the ‘historic end’ of internal combustion engines

Volvo is phasing out cars relying on combustion engines, with every new model launched from 2019 to have an electric motor, as the shift away from the technology that’s dominated the auto industry for more than a century gathers pace.

Promising the “historic end” of cars that have only combustion engines, Volvo Car Group will introduce five electric models by 2021 and offer hybrid options across its product line, according to a statement on Wednesday.

“This announcement marks the end of the solely combustion engine-powered car,” Volvo Chief Executive Officer Hakan Samuelsson said in the statement. “Volvo Cars has stated that it plans to have sold a total of 1 million electrified cars by 2025. This is how we are going to do it.”

Conventional automakers from BMW AG to Volkswagen AG’s Audi are electrifying their line-ups to meet tightening emissions regulations and better compete with segment pioneer Tesla Inc., which starts making its third model this week.

In an effort to woo reluctant customers, manufacturers are offering longer driving ranges and more attractive designs.

BMW has said an electric model—dubbed the iNext—will replace the 7-Series as its flagship in 2021.

Daimler AG’s Mercedes plans to release 10 new electric vehicles by 2022, earlier than previously announced.

Both carmakers expect battery-powered cars to account for as much 25% of sales in about 10 years.

Audi has said every model line will have a hybrid or purely battery-powered variant by 2020.

Volvo, which is owned by Chinese billionaire Li Shufu, said in April that its first electric vehicle will be a Chinese-made compact car that starts deliveries in 2019.

The model will be exported globally and be based on the platform of the company’s XC40 compact SUV.

China is becoming the biggest market for electric cars, and authorities are looking at ambitious production quotas that would be enforced with fines on manufacturers.

Of the five new cars, two will be part of Volvo’s high-performance Polestar sub-brand, and they will be supplemented by a range of gasoline and diesel plug-in hybrid and 48-volt options on all models.

“This means that there will, in future, be no Volvo cars without an electric motor,” Volvo said in the statement. Bloomberg

A 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Drive Itself
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift has entered production at the Sindelfingen factory in Germany. And the car can drive by itself straight from the production line.

The Mercedes-Benz S560 finished in Obsidian Black Metallic paint scheme, drove off the production line by itself. The car drove for 1.5km within the manufacturing plant.

The S560 was equipped with a newly developed and patented technology. The sedan was fitted with cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors. A powerful software is used to accelerate and brake the vehicle.

The video demonstrates the new technology, as the car steers itself through tight space and exits the assembly line. The automaker is running pilot tests to implement the technology in day-to-day production operations.

DriveSpark Thinks! Mercedes-Benz is testing an industry-first technology to roll out the finished cars from the production line by itself. In future, there is no surprise if a car can drive by itself from the production bay to the owner's house! But it will take away the excitement of seeing your new car in the showroom.

Mercedes-Benz has announced that production of the newly facelifted and updated S-Class has started in Sindelfingen. The new S-Class boasts significantly increased semi-autonomous tech, which Mercedes appears to be leveraging in the car's own manufacturing process.

In a brief video, Mercedes-Benz production and supply chain board member Markus Schäfer talks up the new flagship Benz and takes it for a ride from the end of the assembly line to the Sindelfingen plant's final loading area—all from the opulent comfort of the passenger's seat.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class sets worldwide standards for safety, comfort, connectivity, and is on the road to automated driving. The S-Class's independent journey from the end of the production line to the plant's loading area shows the future of how we will be able to use driver assistance systems in production.

Mind you, the S 560 4MATIC you see in the video's onboard semi-autonomous gadgets are working in tandem with external cameras and sensors to make the almost mile-long journey, so we're afraid this remains another example of "don't try this at home." Still, it provides an interesting look into how autonomous cars of the future can not only make life easier for its customers, but for the people that build them as well.

As Schäfer points out, perhaps the next S-Class's fully independent maiden voyage will take it much further than a mile and go on to make these a thing of the past.

HONDA S2000 VTEC GP EDITION

So, a little history on the car, and being a car enthusiast, why I had to have it! I bought it off the original owner, a colleague of mine who I’ve known for a good few years now, and therefore I’ve also known the car for a long time. Unfortunately for my friend, whilst driving home from work on a dark January evening in 2016, he drove into a flooded road and the engine ingested water and became hydrolocked! Something he lived to regret, as although he only crawled through it on idle, it was deeper than he realised. Luckily the engine stopped dead and didn’t break a rod, but the block did end up becoming cracked. After a yearlong battle with his insurance company, and his car being stored at a Honda dealership, the car was classed as a cat c by the insurance and written off, as Honda quoted them £15k for a new engine. On a plus side another stranded owner pushed him back out of the flood and therefore no water entered the car! Bonus!

Being a true Honda S2000 enthusiast (this was his third one), he bought the car back off the insurance company with the intention of putting it back on the road. He then realised how difficult it was to find a good 2nd hand engine, the potential escalating repair costs, and after talking to his Honda dealer and myself, decided to cut his losses and sell it to me to fix instead!

I bought an engine from an S2000 breakers costing me nearly £4k. The engine came with full service history documentation from the car it was taken from, 3 months warranty, and had only done 59k miles. The engine was also a DBW engine from a 2007 model. This if you know your S2000’s is the better engine to fit into a later car anyway, as they didn’t suffer with the common crankshaft thrust washer issues!

Now if the car had been in an accident (which is never has, nor has it ever had any paintwork repairs, all paint is original), then I wouldn’t have been interested. But having known the car, and the owner, and the fact it was simply an engine that it needed, I had to have it.

However, after fitting the engine I wasn’t happy with the engine as it smoked on initial start up, which indicated the valve stem seals were leaking oil. It was fine when driving, just smoked on initial start up. Being the perfectionist that I am, I stripped the original 2009 head down, had it crack tested and inspected for any defects (all was fine) then rebuilt it cleaning the valves and replacing the valve stem seals with OEM Honda items. I then removed the 2007 head and fitted the 2009 head, with cams and VTEC valve train too as they looked in nicer condition. No their warranty refund which took me months of fighting for didn’t cover this cost‼ Anyway, this gave me the chance to properly inspect the bores and de-coke the piston tops etc. I reassembled everything with genuine Honda gaskets and the problem was fixed! I always do the work on my cars myself, being a true car enthusiast and a mechanical engineer, I know if I do it then it’s done properly! Whilst the engine and gearbox was out I also checked the clutch which has minimal wear (a lot of motorway commuting everyday was its past life). I also replaced the gearbox oil with genuine Honda MTF oil, and replaced the clutch fluid too.

The good stuff is that the car pre-insurance claim, had FULL Honda service history and IIRC from the same dealer too. It has always been serviced or fixed by this dealer too. The car is in amazing condition, with very little wear to the driver seat, and the passenger seat looking new still. A fairly recent geometry adjustment, all four Bridgestone tyres are in good condition, and brand new rear discs and pads. New front pads bought but not yet fitted (or need to be yet), I’ve just refreshed the oil and genuine Honda filter again (Castrol edge 5w30) after the new engine covered 2000 miles. I’ve also just adjusted the valve clearances and given the engine a good clean bill of health. It also has a pioneer blue tooth head unit, and all the original service history including a folder full of receipts!

So, that’s the story behind the car, and the bad bit out of the way! The car drives faultless and pulls very well. Has excellent compression and a full documented photographic build for proof of everything I’ve done, I even have the original engine still to prove the write off fault!

Now I can take the car to Autolign who will do a vigorous MOT type inspection on the car, and once satisfied will remove the cat c status from the HPI record, and put it to condition inspected, proving that it is worthy of having the cat C classification removed. This costs £250-£300. As it was purely an engine replacement I have no concerns to this outcome. I had planned to do this later in the summer, as I hadn’t planned to sell the car!

Main stats on the car –

• Ultra-rare Special edition 100 model (number 4)
• 88k miles (new engine has done 26k less – SH to prove)
• Full Honda service history prior to new engine being fitted
• All original handbooks including original bill of sale!
• Recent Geo adjustment • New gearbox fluid
• New clutch fluid • New rear discs and pads
• New front pads included with sale
• Valve clearances just done
• 4 good Original spec Bridgestone tyres
• Only 2 owners
• Both sets of working keys
• It comes with the original immaculate hard top too with a cover
• MOT until Feb 2018
• Bluetooth Pioneer head unit (dash controls still work)

• Grand Prix white with Red leather interior and red carpets

Now it isn’t a brand new car (though its condition is not far off!), therefore there are a couple of things that it’ll need to make it perfect. There is a small scuff on the bumper, some age related stone chips to the bumper, and the wheels though not terrible, could do with a refurb (worst one pictured). Also I would fit some genuine floor matts from Hendy. I’d say that these items would cost no more than £500 to put right. All these things I was going to do this year, but I need to replace the family car Therefore I feel that I’ve priced the car accordingly with its condition, and current status, however I am open to sensible offers.

You need to see this car to appreciate it, and should not let the current cat c status put you off as it is purely an engine that has been replaced. With so many 2009 S2000’s suffering from crankshaft thrust washer failure, many others had new engine replaced anyway – this is no different! If the previous owner hadn’t put it through the insurance it would have been fixed and had no Cat C status applied!

If the previous owner hadn’t put it through the insurance it would have been fixed and had no Cat C status applied!.
