How To Learn Typing (Fast) Online At Home On Computer/Laptop – Today on this post on msnTarGet.com media, let’s learn tips of How To Type on Keyboard in the best possible manner.

Typing is one of the most important skills you can have in today’s world.

How To Learn Typing (Fast) Online At Home On Computer/Laptop

How To Learn Typing (Fast) Online At Home On Computer/Laptop
How To Learn Typing (Fast) Online At Home On Computer/Laptop
Not only the skill but after you have learnt that you can type on Keyboard, You will love to know that you can save literally days year compared to other people because you will be able to type super fast.

As you can see we will now look at our keyboard, and the first thing you need to know about the typing is that where is the home keys are located. mobask.com

Now the home keys are – each of the four fingers on each of your hands has a key that it is always going to return to after you type a letter.

So for your left hand, the home key for Pinky is A, for Ring Finger is S, for the middle finder is D and for the pointer finger its F.

For your left hand, the home keys are semicolon for the Pinky, L for the ring Finger, K for the middle finder and J for the pointer finger.

So, as you can see by looking at where my hands are on the keyboard, we now have easy access to all the keys on the keyboard. So every time you type a letter, you need to make sure that finger returns to its home key. soas.in

Now as you start typing and you get used to it, you might develop some shortcuts and maybe some bad habits.

You might even be able to anticipate where the next key is going to be. So you might not always completely return to this home area, but when you are learning you definitely need to return to this home area or you’re going to lose your place on the keyboard. Fun2Ind.com

So if you will type the letter U with your pointer finger, then You will need to then return to J. If you will type G with your Pointer Finger, then you will need to then return to F. Simply, always back to the home keys.

But, as you’re learning to type one of the best practices, is to just start typing letters repetitively, because repetition creates memory and not only in your brain but your fingers will start to remember where things are and then you won’t even have to think about which key you are typing.

It will just come out naturally. So, what you are going to do is if you are practising the letter U, you want to go J-U-J; J-U-J and then you can maybe practice a different letter to kind of get your mind in a different place. msnTarGet.com

And, you could talk about F R F F R F. Now, before you go any further, I would like to show you which fingers are responsible for which keys.

On this page only, a chart will also be attached which will ultimately help you to tell which fingers are responsible for which keys.

So, if you are pointing fingers are going to be responsible for six main keys, and then each of your six fingers is going to be responsible for three primary keys. So, for the left hand, the Pinky is responsible for Q, A and Z. soas.in

Your Ring finger is responsible for W, S, X. Middle finger is responsible for E, D, C and then pointing fingers for R, F, V, T, G and B. On the right-hand side, your Pinky Finger is responsible for P, Semicolon.

Ring finger is responsible for O, L and period. The middle finger is responsible for I, K and comma and then your pointer finger will be responsible for U, J, M, Y, H, N.

Now, it’s equally important to understand, when you first start typing, your pointer finger is probably not going to be too tough to learn that one.

But your ring and your Pinky fingers are going to feel very awkward and it’s just not going to go well. What you need to work through that because you need to learn that the more you practice, the better you are going to learn.

And, if you’re really quick and pointer type, when you first start typing the right way, you actually might be able to type faster with your pointers and you are going to say Oh, screw this.

I don’t want to do this because I can type way faster using the way I have been doing it. But, the truth is that you will not be able to type that much faster if you do it the wrong way.

And, first, you might be a little slow, because you are not used to it, you need to practice it. It’s not going to happen overnight.

But, if you practice this, and you keep doing your repetition, R-F-R-F-V-R-F-V, then you will become very good at typing.

Another thing you want to know is to go ahead and check the chart that we will give on this page very soon. Stay tuned with soas.in media, till then.

Here, let’s summarise this topic once and let us recall all the important tips as well. Whether you need to type a resume, a letter or a bibliography, it can get done fast if you learn how to control the keys efficiently. MobAsk.com

You will need a keyboard or typewriter, patience, time to practice and internet access. Here, step 1: Position on fingers on the Keyboard.

Put your little-left finger on the “A” and your right little finger on the semicolon. Lay your fingers one at a time on each consecutive key and place your thumbs on the space bar.

The F and J keys on most keyboards have small bumps to easily identify where you two pointer fingers should stay, without having to look down.

Step 2: Learn what fingers controls which keys. The left index fingers control the F, G, R, T, 4, 5, V and B. The left middle finger controls the D, E, 3 and C.

The left ring finger controls the S, W, 2 and X. The left little finger controls the A, Q, 1, Z and Shift. Step 3: Learn what keys the finger on the right-hand type.

The fingers on right right hand control the same patterns of keys that you’ve learnt on the left side. Step 4: Press the space bar with your right parm.

Step 5: Master the shift keys with your little fingers press the shift key while simultaneously pressing the letter of choice to type a capital letter. If the letter is pressed by the right hand, use the left shift key and vice versa.

Step 6: Sit up straight with both feet on the floor. Position your chair and keyboard so your arms are at a 90-degree angle and a parallel to your legs.

Keep your elbows next to your body and your head straight. Try not to look down at the keyboard or keys.

Step 7: Practice typing. You can learn for free online by visiting websites with touch typing tutorials.

Learning the art of typing will save you tons of time over the hunt and peck method. Did you know the letters on the old typewriters used to be listed alphabetically?

In the late 1800s, Christopher Latham Sholes rearranged the keys to prevent jamming.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop By Internet, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB – Your laptop could be your personal computer or PC, similarly, your desktop could be your Personal Computer or PC, but there is a difference in Laptop and Desktop. Simple to understand, isn’t it? In the same manner understanding “How to connect your phone to your Windows 10 PC” or “How To Connect your Apple iPhone to Macbook” is. So, in this step by step guide, without further ado, let’s directly learn about the PC and mobile connectivity topic-wise.
How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop By Internet, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop By Internet, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB
A laptop or desktop has its own importance, same is the case with mobile phone or high-tech smartphones. But, many a time, the situation is raised when you may need to connect your smartphone to your Laptop or computer irrespective of the fact how High-Tech your mobile phone is.

Connecting a mobile phone to your laptop or computer is simple. But, in various cases, purpose and methods are different. Some people connect it to transfer the files from Mobile Phones to Laptop/ Computer or vice-versa. And many people most of the times connect it using Wireless Fidelity for the perfect internet usage. While those who faced the problems in doing so, had it last time.

In general, there is only one possible way of connecting your Mobile Phone to PC with-wire mode that is – either by using the Data Cable or by USB Cable (don’t mind, in local saying both are one and the same thing). Using this wired connecting, Mobile Charging is possible, data transfer is possible and many other tasks. As after reading this in-depth guide you will not face problem in Connecting your Smartphone to your PC or Laptop anymore.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop Using Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a wireless connectivity technology standard for exchanging data which is mainly used in Personal Computers, Audio Devices, Gaming Consoles and Smartphones etc. with the physical range of Typically less than 10 m (33 ft), up to 100 m (330 ft); Bluetooth 5.0: 40–400 m (100–1,000 ft) and has frequency of 2.45 GHz. Now connecting your Mobile Phone or Smartphone with Laptop or PC is extremely simple.

Here comes the role of Pairing. Bluetooth would not have existed without the word pairing. It goes like – You’ll have to turn on the Bluetooth in your mobile phone. Then you’ll have to turn on the Bluetooth in your Laptop or Personal Computers. In both the cases, keep in mind that Bluetooth of both the devices should be “Discoverable to Nearby Devices.” Telling this because there is an option to un-discover the same in any or both of the devices.

Now, there must be some name given to your Bluetooth device of Laptop and Smartphone. From the list of devices that are discovered, please make sure to click on the name of the device you are willing to connect to. For example, the name of BT (here BT refers to BlueTooth) of your Smartphone is ATB and the name of BT of your Laptop or Personal Computer is msnTarGet.com. Then from Smartphone click on MsnTarGet.CoM while vice versa is not necessary and pairing will start.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop Using Data cable
As the name suggests, Data Cable is basically used to transfer the data either from the Smartphones to Laptop or Personal Computers. Now, based on the kind of media that needs to be transferred, Data Cables are of various types that are –

Ethernet Cables (Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a)
  • Token Ring Cables (Cat4)
  • Coaxial cable is sometimes used as a baseband digital data cable, such as in serial digital interface and thicknet and thinnet.
  • Optical fiber cable; see fiber-optic communication.
  • Serial cable.

There is one more advantage of using the Data Cable as a mode of transferring files either from Smartphone to Laptop or Computer or vice – versa, that is Charging of your Smartphone from Laptop. And, there have been Myths like Laptop or Computer Charging is not as strong as High Voltage Direct Electric Current Switch Charging, then keep in mind that it is just a myth and nothing else.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop With and Without USB
Indeed don’t ignore this, because there is a difference between USB Charging Cable and Data cable. In Simple words, according to reports, when you use USB Cables to transfer data by plugging one end on the device and the other one to a pc or a laptop, that’s when it’s called data cable.

But in scientific words, it can better be understood as “On the device side, the two 10K resistors on the Data – and Data+ Lines tell the device that this is the power supply online, no data. And, the resistor side should be near the socket. More updates related to How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop By Internet, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB will be posted on this page of msnTarGet.com.

This can be made with a regular USB extension cord; only run the red and black cables with larger (18 Gauge) wire, and put the resistors on the socket side. Ideally, the wires should be shielded with the shield connected to ground.” Obviously, no rocket science is needed to understand how to connect Mobile Phones and Laptops or Personal Computers using USB Charging cable.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop Monitor Using the Internet (In Hindi)
There are tons of ways by which computers or laptops can have access to the internet. But, more than half of the high-tech world that uses Laptop or Computers for Searches in Search engine giants like Google, Yahoo and Bing, watching Youtube Videos, streaming online live games, surfing on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram does that with the help of the internet packages in their mobile phones.

The best possible way to run the Internet in your Laptop or Personal Computer using a Smartphone is to switch on the Wifi in former and switching on the tethering hotspot in the latter. Now connecting the both can resolve the issues for sure. This is the simplest method of having internet connection in your PC or Desktop or Laptop without subscribing to any other Data packages from Airtel, Reliance that uses Modem or Router.

Once, internet connectivity is there, ultimately your Smartphone and Computer also get connected using the Internet. A complete detailed guide regarding this will be uploaded on MsnTarGet.com in the Hindi language as well soon. Thus stays tuned with us.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop With Teamviewer
When it came to connectivity, the world was earlier OKAY with Bluetooth, Wireless Fidelity or WiFi and ShareIt kind of software. But the industry of Smartphones and Computer Connectivity completely changed when The Durham, North Carolina-based company GFI Software acquired a majority stake in TeamViewer in 2010 and Teamview kept getting better thereafter.

Resulting in mind-blowing figures that Teamviewer connected over 1.7+ Billion smartphones and 40+ million sessions per days are received. Thus, there must be something special that over 4 Lakh people are downloading the Teamview every day. Operating system updates for one of the best data sharing, remote support, remote access, service desk computer software – TeamViewer are as follows (on the day of writing this content).

Starting with Windows (desktop app): 13.2.26558 / October 4, 2018; 7 days ago Windows (UWP app): 13.0.100.0 Chrome OS: 13.0.281 / October 30, 2017; 11 months ago BlackBerry OS: 12.0.0.6394 / February 1, 2017; 19 months ago Android: 13.2.9356 / August 2, 2018; 2 months ago Linux: 12.0.81460 / July 27, 2017; 14 months ago. Not only connections but also, complete screen control can be taken over if used Teamviewer in the perfect possible manner.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop With Ip Address
Here’s how? If you and your partner (those who are willing to share the screens) are on Smartphones, the first step is to download the Teamview from Google Play Store or App Store (in case of iPhone). Then, a unique ID (in numeric digits) will be generated by the first device and when the same ID shared with the second device holder. That ID will have to enter in the Teamviewer App and now second device holder will have a complete or limited control as required of first device holders screen. Similarly, when in Laptop or Personal Computers, make sure to go through these Easy and Secure Remote Desktop Access in the world’s favourite remote support solution.

The process of setting up the IP Address in Windows and Linux and other operating systems is totally different. Just remember that your Computer or Smartphone does not have an IP Address, rather your internet connectivity and router, modem etc. does have. Even, as the name suggests IP is an internet protocol, thus address must also be connected to IP only.

Now there are ways through which you can set up your IP Addresses (exact step by step guides/ methods can be viewed on other portals) and have your Smartphone completely connected with your Laptop or Personal Computer. There always been one disadvantage of Wireless connectivity that you can only transfer the data. But in USB Cable or USB Data connectivity, you can even charge your phone and also can transfer the Data.

How To Connect Mobile To PC/Laptop With ShareIt
Shareit has been one of the most famous data sharing application developed by Lenovo. Two happiest part of this best sharing app with the fastest cross-platform transfer speed & free online feeds including movies/ music/ wallpapers / GIFs is that – 1.) IT IS A FREEWARE and 2.) IT IS A DOWNLOADABLE SOFTWARE. Thus, in case you’re not having internet connection working, Shareit will not leave your hands.

Like Bluetooth and other wireless connectivity software, Share It should also be there in both the devices. First one being from which the data needs to be transferred and the second one being in which the data needs to be received. But in this latest version of ShareIt, you can call it 4.0, no pairing kind of thing is there. Rather, from your Smartphone, a QR Code which appears in the Mobile Phone has to be scanned.

Apple is in the news for all the unwanted stuff these days. The Apple iPhone X isn’t particularly doing well across the world including India, and the company is rumoured to launch a refreshed MacBook Air this year at the WWDC 2018. However, for some unknown reasons, Apple has now informed its supply chain partners a change in the production of the upcoming MacBook Air. That said, Apple did not inform the reason behind the change in schedule to the supply partners, but now it’s unlikely that Apple will unveil the notebook at its Developers Conference in June.
Apple Reportedly Pushed the Production of New MacBook Air to Second Half of 2018
Earlier, it was said that Apple is planning to introduce a MacBook Air refresh in the third quarter of 2018 (at its September event) and this report of pushing back the production falls in-line with the same. “Apple has informed supply chain partners that mass production of its new notebook model for 2018 will not kick off until the second half of the year, yet without explaining the rescheduling move. Some partners speculated that the postponement might be caused by problems with some key components such as processors,” a DigiTimes report stated.
Earlier this month, it was rumoured that Apple would introduce a 2018 version of the MacBook Air at the WWDC 2018 event which is set to kickstart on June 4. The planned MacBook Air 2018 is said to be the first Air model to feature a Retina display that will be produced by South Korean electronics company LG. The new MacBook Air will keep the same form factor and said to arrive with upgraded internals. One of the key highlights of the upcoming MacBook Air will be its price. In the United States, Apple was rumoured to launch the new model at around $899 or even $799 to counter the strong sales of Chromebooks. But this information was given by market observers.
In the past couple of years, the sales of Apple MacBooks have come down drastically, and the cheaper price is expected to boost the sales of MacBooks by over 10% in 2018. The DigiTimes report further claimed that the production of new iPhones would also kick off in the third quarter. Apple might force its EMS plants in China with the additional workforce to meet the sufficient product of 2018 iPhones and MacBook Air devices. During the upcoming Developers Conference event in June, Apple might announce the much-awaited iPhone SE 2 or iPhone SE (2018) with upgraded internals and design compared to the 2016 iPhone SE. The Cupertino-based company will also announce the iOS 12 Beta version at the event.

Honor is a brand which has been known for focusing heavily on the design of its gadgets. This time also the company has designed the MagicBook with a focus on looks while also not compromising on the performance.

Like we said, the Honor MagicBook does not compromise on the performance for the aesthetics and ships with the latest 8th gen Intel Core i7-8550U Processor based on a 14nm process.
The laptop is also efficient in maintaining a high frame rate thanks to the Nvidia MX150 GPU with 2GB of GDDR5 memory which also helps the machine in delivering 4x performance in graphics. The four speakers on the MagicBook have been powered by Dolby Atmos sound for a clear audio-visual experience. The MagicBook will sell in China in two variants. The less pricey version will house Intel i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage and will retail for CNY 4,999 (approx Rs 52,300). The second and the top model will ship with Intel i7 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage will cost CNY 5,699 (approx Rs 59,700). Just like the Honor 10, there has been no news regarding the Indian launch of the MagicBook. However, in China the laptop is up for pre-order starting today, i.e. April 19. The sale of the laptop starts on April 23.

After 4G Feature Phone, Reliance Jio in Talks to Launch Laptops With Cellular Connectivity
After launching their own 4G feature phone (JioPhone), Reliance Jio’s next big move to increase its average revenue per user seems to be a laptop with a SIM card. The Mukesh Ambani led telecom major is in talks with US-based chipmaker Qualcomm to bring out laptops running Windows 10 with built-in cellular connections for the Indian market.
The Qualcomm laptops will apparently be bundled with Jio 4G connections. Qualcomm is already working with Jio and Reliance Retail to bring out a 4G feature phone. “…we have talked to Jio. They could take the device and bundle it with data and content,” Miguel Nunes, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, told Economic Times.
The company has been touting its Snapdragon Mobile Platform as future of mobile laptop computing which will bring the next-gen “Always Connected PCs”. The chip maker, meanwhile also talking with the homegrown Internet of Things brand Smartron to bring Snapdragon 835 powered laptops. Smartron has confirmed the same. Globally, Qualcomm has launched Snapdragon powered laptops with players such as HP, Asus and Lenovo.
Besides, Nunes said that there are now 14 operators that have extended their support for this new category of connected PCs, including the US’ Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and major carriers in Germany, Italy, the UK, France, and Australia. Last year, Qualcomm and Microsoft first announced that they are working together on Always Connected PCs at Snapdragon Tech Summit. They announced three devices the HP Envy x2, Lenovo Miix 630 and Asus NovaGo powered by Snapdragon 835 and running Windows 10.
The companies claimed that in addition to LTE connectivity, the SD 835 powered devices come with increased battery life with laptops providing 20 hours battery backup. Moreover, the devices would instantly switch on instead of taking few seconds to come out of sleep mode. The laptops also promise better security on mobile connections than public Wi-Fi hotspots. However, Qualcomm powered laptops are yet to hit global markets, so it is going to take a while before Jio gets their own SIM connected laptop. Stay tuned for more updates.

Office 2019 Will Only Work on Windows 10, Says Microsoft
Microsoft has announced that its Office 2019 suite -- to be available in the second half of 2018 -- will only work on Windows 10 operating system. "Office 2019 will ship in H2 of 2018. Previews of the new apps and servers will start shipping in the second quarter of 2018.
Office 2019 apps will be supported on any supported Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) release," the company wrote in a blog post late on Thursday. "Office 2019 will provide five years of mainstream support and approximately two years of extended support.
This is an exception to our 'Fixed Lifecycle Policy' to align with the support period for Office 2016. Extended support will end 10/14/2025," the company added. However, there was no change announced regarding the support term for existing versions of Office.
This release has no effect on Office for Mac, which is a separate product with a different release schedule. Last year at Ignite, Microsoft announced Office 2019 -- the next perpetual version of Office that includes apps (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Skype for Business) and servers (including Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business). The company also announced servicing extensions for Windows 10 and changes to the Office 365 ProPlus system requirements.
The support for Windows 10 (versions 1511, 1607, 1703, and 1709) for enterprise and education customers running certain versions of the operating system was extended for another six months to help them move to the latest supported versions of the operating system.

Porsche Design’s Book One is the industrial convertible laptop that needs fixingPorsche Design’s Book One laptop is a prime example of when aesthetics completely take over — when other parts of the device suffer and you lose focus on how well it actually works.
It can be a good experience, especially true if the pen input works well, the battery life is solid and the aesthetics fit like a jigsaw puzzle. The Surface Book does this, the Book One as well, but it doesn’t work as well.
The form factor set by Microsoft’s Surface Book is probably one of the best approaches to a convertible laptop. Why? Simplicity: the screen detaches from the body to become a tablet, then can be reattached for the traditional clamshell design.

Why is there a “Porsche Design” laptop?

Quite a few luxury car manufacturers (eg. Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW) have a design studio or brand they use to sell (expensive) merchandise that sport their brand. It’s just brand appeal. Porsche Design has previously designed an Android phone; a tablet computer is the next step up, if you really think about it.

At least you don’t have worry about power, because the Book One has a solid spec sheet. A 7th-gen, dual-core Core i7 processor is clocked at 2.7GHz (2.9GHz on turbo) paired with 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, Bluetooth 4.1/WiFi and Windows Hello login.
To say this as a 20-year-old who is still in college may sound hypocritical. But honestly, the Book One feels like the product of a bunch of college students who got really excited about their first hardware project, only to realize how much work then has to go into the software.
If I had to summarize the Book One experience, it’s that it needs work on the former, but does a good job on the latter.

Using it is…an experience

Originally, I thought that the perfectly clean install of Windows 10 64-bit was going to be bug-free (which is wishful thinking, but still). In practice however, I came across a few problems, to which there weren’t immediate solutions.

For example, the Windows Hello cameras don’t always turn-on when waking from sleep. Sometimes the keyboard doesn’t sync when you reattach the screen. The hardware controls on the top row can only be activated using Fn (function key), plus the feature you want to control (brightness; volume; keyboard backlight). It’s a hassle sometimes.

Fret not! Not all of the Book One’s software is shaky. In fact, I give major props to the Porsche team for using Microsoft’s Precision drivers — the same we see on the Microsoft Surface systems. Personally, I believe they’re the best touchpad drivers Windows has, but few OEMs choose to use it over Synpatics drivers.

But goodness, the speakers are bad. They’re of a stereo design, on the tablet portion of the Book One. In short, they sound like they’re made of tin. Virtually no software enhancement besides the default Realtek drivers exist, so you can’t compensate for the lack of volume or fidelity.

The Book One cannot be the center of a binge-watching session among close friends — heck, it can’t even fill a bedroom; you will need to use headphones or external speakers, no exceptions.
The issues I experienced can probably be tweaked with a Windows update by the Porsche Design folks. However, there isn’t a support or drivers page on their website that caters to the Book One. Porsche Design says there’s a “free premium hotline and remote support”, but that hasn’t helped me as of yet.
Also, there is a physical flaw to the Book One’s design. Since both the top and bottom halves are about the same thickness but different weights, the top end will tilt the laptop backwards if tilted too far back. This happens without fail if it’s on your lap, and is a little aggravating.

I’ve reached out to my contacts at Porsche Design, but didn’t hear back in time for publication…moving on, then.

The screen is gorgeous! It’s a 3200 x 1800 resolution on a 13.3-inch IPS panel, with 10-point multitouch. Everything on screen looks like eye candy, with what appear to be fairly accurate colors. Unfortunately, I don’t have the Adobe RGB gamut rating for this screen, so once again, I’ll have to move along.

The rest of the Book One experience is straightforward: a solid keyboard, good trackpad, and a Wacom metal pen for use with Paint3D and other creative Windows 10 apps.
What’s also Surface Book-esque is the battery setup: one in the keyboard, another within the tablet itself. With brightness set to 50 percent, WiFi and Bluetooth on, it’s not hard to reach at least 10 hours of use; PD advertises 14 hours, with less than two hours to charge. It’s decent, really.
Ports-wise, you get one USB-C charging port, one USB-C for data, 3.5mm audio jack, microSD card slot and finally, two standard USB 3.0 ports. It’s a forgiving selection.

Bottom Line

Who is this laptop for?

Well, if you have a Porsche and really want a matching laptop, then here’s your new laptop.

Jokes aside, if you’re ready to resign yourself to paying a brand premium for specs and design — while remembering the current 13-inch Macbook Pro is still $1,000 less  — with a few software quirks, then the Book One is also for you. It’s a statement more than anything.

The Porsche Design Book One is really an art piece, best observed from afar and not by the dent it would put in your bank account. Also, it needs actual speakers.

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop is great, once you upgrade Windows 10 SI’ve talked to a number of people on the Surface team over the last few months, and the decision to hinder their beautiful new piece of hardware still boggles the mind. The Surface Laptop is really nice — in fact, it’s quite possibly the best piece of hardware to carry the Surface name. But for some reason Microsoft saw fit to use the product to showcase Windows 10 S, a stripped-down version of its operating system targeted primarily at schools.

Microsoft has since told me it recognizes that the Laptop’s messaging was confusing. Launching the device at an education event made it look like the company was releasing a $999 Chromebook competitor. And it told me back in late-May that a version of the Laptop with full Windows 10 is coming at some point. Meantime, it’s waiving the upgrade fee through the end of the year.
The screen is quite nice, too. I don’t find touch to be super easy to use in a laptop form factor, but no one’s going to argue with offering up the option — well, aside from Apple, I guess. Like the MacBook, the port situation leaves something to be desired: you get power, headphones,  MiniDisplay and one USB 3.0 port.
So definitely do that. And if you buy a Surface Laptop next year, grit your teeth and spend the $50. I’m not saying there’s no place in the world for Windows 10 S — I’m just saying that if you’re reading this, there’s a pretty good chance it wasn’t built with you in mind. The new version of the operating system is for K-12 students and, perhaps, people gifting older parents a device for which they’d rather not have to perform regular tech support.
Windows 10 S is defined mostly by its limitations: it’s a locked-down version of the operating system, most notably in the case of apps, which are limited to what you download from the Windows Store. It kind of feels like Windows Phone all over again. It’s easy to see why teachers might embrace those restrictions — it keeps students’ focus and weeds out potentially malicious apps. It’s also clear how Windows 10 S is useful on those new $189 education systems that were launched alongside the operating system. It puts less of a strain on the system, so you’ll get more out of low-end devices.
But the Surface Laptop is not that. It’s a very good and nice device. It’s the first Surface device that can truly be considered a MacBook competitor.

Just the other week, I was reviewing the new Surface Pro and lamenting the fact that it wasn’t the Laptop. And now I have one in my possession and stand by that statement. The device takes the lessons learned from previous Surface products and applies them to a more familiar and universal form factor.

Sure, there are things you can’t do on the Laptop that are standard fare for other Surfaces. The screen doesn’t detach and it can be opened 180 degrees, so if you’re in the relative minority that relies on the Surface Pen, this isn’t the form factor for you. But the permanent keyboard is much sturdier than its detachable counterpart — in fact, the keys feels better and deeper than recent MacBooks. And the fabric that surrounds the keyboard looks and feels nice to the touch — though if you tend to use your laptop while eating, be wary. It’s harder to clean than your standard laptop palm rest.

That last one represents one of the pretty clear distinctions between Microsoft and Apple’s respective approaches. USB-C represents a path to the future paved in dongles. In a couple of years, you’ll probably be happy to have it on your laptop. For the moment, however, chances are that you own a lot more cables that will plug into Microsoft’s product.

It’s clear the company put a lot of thought into the product, and along with recent additions, it represents the ongoing evolution of the Surface line from proof-of-concept Windows devices to some of the best products in their class. The Surface Laptop is a nice and well-designed product at a reasonable $999 starting price. But if you buy one after December 2017, budget an extra $50 for an OS upgrade. Trust me on this one.

Price and style often go hand in hand when shopping for a new laptop. In general, the more money you’re willing to plop down for a machine, the better it’s going to look and feel. As Asus highlights with its latest Ultrabook, however, that doesn’t always have to be the case.
The Asus VivoBook S is an affordable machine that looks way more appealing than its price point would suggest. It features a modest 15.6-inch matte display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 driven by either an Intel Core i5-7200U or Core i7-7500U processor, Intel HD graphics and 8GB (or up to 32GB) of RAM.
Asus launches the VivoBook S510, an Ultrabook for those on a budget
Local storage is handled by a 128GB M.2 SATA solid state drive and a 1TB 5,400 RPM hard drive although again, for a bit more coin, you can upgrade to a pair of 1TB SSDs (there’s also an SD card reader for easy expansion / file transfers).
Windows 10 comes standard, as does the 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 wireless connectivity and 42WHr, 3-cell li-ion battery. You also get a full complement of I/O ports including USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI and a combination audio jack.
What sets the system apart from most budget laptops is the beautiful brushed aluminum chassis and slim measurements. The VivoBook S measures 14.2 inches wide and 0.7 inches thick with a bezel of just 0.3 inches which Asus says affords an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio.
Pricing starts at just $699 (Core i5, 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive) although I’d highly recommend springing for a model with a solid state drive (starting at $799). Systems are available as of writing from several retailers including B&H and Newegg as well as directly from Asus .

Lenovo Is Making A Retro ThinkPad
It's taken a couple of years but Lenovo is planning to release a retro-styled ThinkPad that brings back the style of the 1990s with 21st century computing power. If it's really like the ThinkPads of old, it will be a very robust computer with the best keyboard on the market and be able to withstand some heavy duty action - those computers were built to last.
First announced a couple of years ago, the new retro ThinkPad will mark the 25th anniversary of the ThinkPad.
While all the speeds and feeds are still under wraps - Lenovo doesn't comment on unreleased products - the existence of the device was revealed during an event in New York

David Hill, one of the principle designers of the ThinkPad said, in a recent blog post, the new ThinkPad will be branded with the old multi-coloured logo. He said:
It has a wonderful black rubberized coating, three TrackPoint caps, and a keyboard to die for. I will proudly carry one.
The first corporate laptop I ever had was a ThinkPad, then made by IBM before they sold their PC business to Lenovo. When it came to portable computing, the ThinkPad was the peak of design experimentation. During my three years working at a large dairy company I was fortunate enough to use several different ThinkPads. A couple really stood out.
The IBM ThinkPad 701c was famous for its "butterfly" keyboard. Released in 1995, this computer had a 10.4-inch display. In order for IBM to fit a full keyboard into this small body, they separated it into two halves. When you flipped the LCD open, the keyboard opened out and the two halves joined delivering a full-sized keyboard that hung over the edges of the computer's chassis. It was like magic.
The other was the ThinkPad 755CDV. Like the 701c, it also had a 10.4-inch display. But, and remember this was in the day when a projector for presentations was about as large as an ICBM and cost thousands of dollars, the back of the screen snapped off and you could place the 755CDV on to an overhead projector. The light from the projector would pass though the LCD and be displayed up on a big screen.
While we talk about innovation, back in the 1990s the notion of the modern laptop computer was still evolving. IBM was a huge part of the evolution of portable computing. It'll be interesting to see how Lenovo's '90s throwback compares.
