Uber app will now allow riders to make free calls to the cab-drivers. To recall, the feature was introduced in other countries for Uber back in October last year, but now it is being rolled out in India. The VoIP based function will mean that the call will be made over the internet from the Uber app, thus it will protect the phone number of the rider. In case you want to make a call to your driver, then after you book the cab, you can tap on the calling button. A pop-up screen will allow you to choose between cellular network and VoIP to make the call, choose the Free Call option from the screen. The Uber app will now ask you to grant permission for using the microphone of the device. Tap on ‘Allow’. In a bid to smoothen the ride for its drivers, ride-hailing platform Uber on Wednesday launched a new app that will initially be available to select driver-partners in Kochi and courier partners in Chennai. The app was built after experimenting with over 100 driver and courier partners in Bengaluru as part of the global beta launch.
