Why Virat Kohli is world’s busiest captain

I once asked Tiger Pataudi how tough was it to captain India. He thought for a moment, then replied with a mischievous smile: Depends on how much you wanted to complicate it. That was typical of Tiger, someone who believed in keeping things simple.

When I posed the same question to Raj Singh Dungarpur, another stalwart, his response was completely different. Captaining the Indian cricket team, he said with dramatic exaggeration, is very difficult -- it is the second toughest job in India.

Why Virat Kohli is world’s busiest captain

That is a bit of a stretch but captaining India is challenging. The job extends beyond cricket, there is relentless scrutiny and every move of the captain is played out in full public glare. As the ‘face’ of Indian cricket, the skipper must take on heavy workload to meet the expectations of passionate fans.

Captain Virat Kohli, like his worthy predecessors and all Test captains, is responsible for delivering on-field results but unlike Jason Holder or Hamilton Masakadza (Zimbabwe), he is regularly dragged into other activities. Virat takes a call on yo-yo tests (yardstick for fitness), decides team culture, works on a long-term vision for Indian cricket and pushes for better wages. He is part of the team selection and, going by recent experience, has a say in appointing the coach/support staff.

Elsewhere, these matters are handled by professionals but in India, the bandwidth of the Indian captain is badly comprised. England has a Director Cricket (Andrew Strauss till recently) , a football style supremo with a veto over captain Joe Root and head coach Trevor Bayliss .

Ideally, the Director Cricket, or a High Performance Manager, should decide if Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Jasprit Bumrah need a break, whether MS Dhoni should play Vijay Hazare Trophy or Cheteshwar Pujara/Ishant Sharma would benefit from a stint in county cricket.

Sadly, without this robust support structure, the Indian captain has to step in and get his hands dirty. Kohli is hopelessly overburdened and forced to become a multitasking all-rounder -- player, leader, selector, Director Cricket -- all rolled into one.

It only happens in India that the captain dives deep into technicalities (match scheduling, practice games, quality of net bowlers); player welfare matters (contracts, match fees, allowances) or peripherals (travel clothing, size of suitcase, dress code).

Usually, the Players’ Association does all this but India is the only major cricketing nation without a players’ body. The BCCI is opposed to a trade union of players which could bargain aggressively and, in an interesting twist, neither are top players keen on uniting on one platform. The present arrangement works for both: BCCI happily accommodates top players, and Team India knows it can get what they want.

Some feel powerful Indian captains should leverage their influence to advance cricket and strive for ‘common good’. A contrary view suggests players should focus on playing and leave reform to the BCCI and the Supreme Court.

The Indian captain operates in a unique ecosystem that is chaotic and confusing. Kohli may not hold the second toughest job in India but he is certainly the busiest Test captain in world cricket .

Smriti Mandhana takes Women’s World Cup by storm

Each time Smriti Mandhana walks into the 22 yards there is a certain buzz surrounding the 20-year-old classy left-handed batsman. It is the excitement and the anticipation that she generates which makes her such an exciting player to watch. However, her road to the ICC Women’s World Cup this year has been a turbulent ride – from being sidelined due to an injury to finally making the cut in the nick of time. But for those following the game, Mandhana’s talent isn’t a bolt from the blue. Ever since she recorded her maiden ODI hundred against Australia in early 2016, there has been a lot of chatter regarding her talent among pundits. She was tipped to be the next big thing in Indian women’s cricket. And it is now that at the biggest stage that she has truly come of age and is setting the World Cup alight with her fireworks.

India has played two matches so far in the Women’s World Cup. and in both the matches Mandhana has grabbed eyeballs with match-winning innings of 90 and 106 respectively. In both her innings she has displayed a mix of caution and aggression and shown maturity beyond her age. The best aspect about her batting is the way she has composed them by first playing the ball by its merit and later on taking the attack to the bowlers. Mandhana’s fine blend of youth and fearless aggression has set her apart from the others and has given the Indian side a much-needed impetus at the top of the order.

It may be recalled here that Mandhana’s spot in the World Cup wasn’t secured as he had suffered an injury (in WBBL) and was ruled out of action for almost six months. However, she finally made the cut at the last moment and is reaping the faith shown by the selectors in heaps.

After her hundred against the West Indies, Mandhana became the fifth Indian player to score more than one ODI 100. The others to do so are Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, Thirush Kamini and Jaya Sharma.

However, Mandhana’s rise to the top has been anything but easy. From being selected for the Maharashtra’s Under-15 state team at the age of nine to considering leaving cricket to pursue academics, she has seen it all. Thankfully her parents stood by her and encouraged her to pursue her passion of playing cricket and finally, on the tour to England and Australia she showed the skills that she possesses and kept hitting the right notes.

Mandhana, who hails from Sangli, a town in Maharashtra also made history last year when she became the only Indian cricketer to be named in the first ever ICC Women’s Team of the Year 2016.

1. महेंद्र सिंह धौनी का जन्म पान सिंह और देवकी देवी के घर हुआ था। वो मूल रूप से उत्तराखंड के अल्मोड़ा जिले के हैं, लेकिन पिता पान सिंह की नौकरी के चलते उनका परिवार उत्तराखंड से रांची पलायन कर गया था। उनका एक भाई (नरेंद्र) और एक बहन (जयंती) हैं।

2. धौनी की खेल में दिलचस्पी फुटबॉल व बैडमिंटन से शुरू हुई थी। फुटबॉल में वो स्कूल टीम के गोलकीपर भी थे, लेकिन कम उम्र में स्कूल के स्पोर्ट्स टीचर केशव रंजन बेनर्जी ने उनकी प्रतिभा को पहचान लिया। क्रिकेट टीम में विकेटकीपर की गैरमौजूदगी में बेनर्जी ने धौनी को इसके लिए तैयार किया और उसके बाद माही ने कभी पीछे मुड़कर नहीं देखा।

3. 1997-98 में वीनू मांकड़ ट्रॉफी अंडर-16 चैंपियनशिप धौनी के क्रिकेट करियर का पहला बड़ा पल था। उस टूर्नामेंट में अच्छे प्रदर्शन ने उन्हें स्थानीय क्रिकेट सर्किट में एक चर्चित नाम बना दिया था। दसवीं कक्षा पास करने के बाद धौनी ने पूरी तरह से क्रिकेट पर ध्यान देना शुरू कर दिया था।

4. धौनी के करियर में 1999-2000 की कूच बिहार ट्रॉफी की काफी चर्चा होती है। उस टूर्नामेंट के फाइनल में धौनी और युवराज सिंह पहली बार आमने-सामने आए थे। बिहार अंडर-19 टीम की तरफ से खेलते हुए धौनी ने पहली पारी में 84 रन बनाए थे, जबकि उनकी टीम 357 रन बनाकर ऑलआउट हो गई थी। जवाब में पंजाब टीम के कप्तान युवराज सिंह ने अकेले ही बिहार की पूरी टीम से ज्यादा रन बना दिए थे। युवी ने 404 गेंदों पर 358 रन बनाए थे। पंजाब की टीम ने 5 विकेट पर 839 रन का विशाल स्कोर खड़ा कर दिया था।

5. धौनी ने रणजी ट्रॉफी के जरिए प्रथम श्रेणी क्रिकेट करियर की शुरुआत भी 1999-2000 के सत्र में की थी। अपने पहले ही मैच में असम के खिलाफ 18 वर्षीय धौनी ने नाबाद 68 रनों की पारी खेलकर सबका ध्यान अपनी ओर खींचा था।

6. उनके क्रिकेट करियर के दौरान एक ऐसा मोड़ भी आया था जब वो असमंजस में पड़ गए थे। 2001 से 2003 के बीच उन कुछ सालों में धौनी ने खड़गपुर रेलवे स्टेशन पर टीटी की नौकरी भी की।

7. धौनी ने इस बीच अपने क्रिकेट करियर को खड़ा करने के लिए टेनिस बॉल क्रिकेट तक खेला, जिस दौरान अपने दोस्त से सीखा हुआ उनका चर्चित हेलीकॉप्टर शॉट पहली बार फैंस ने देखा।

8. 2003-04 के देवधर ट्रॉफी में धौनी ने ऐसा धमाल मचाया था कि वो छा गए। उन्होंने 4 मैचों में 244 रन बनाकर चयनकर्ताओं का ध्यान अपनी ओर खींच लिया था।

9. बीसीसीआइ द्वारा छोटे शहरों में प्रतिभा ढूंढने वाली टीआरडब्ल्यू नाम की एक यूनिट गठित की गई थी। इस यूनिट के प्रकाश पोद्दार ने 2003 में धौनी को झारखंड के लिए खेलते देखा और वो उनके कायल हो गए। उन्होंने इसकी जानकारी राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट अकादमी (एनसीए) में दे दी।

10. 2003-04 के घरेलू वनडे टूर्नामेंट में धौनी ने इतना धमाल मचाया कि उन्हें सीधे इंडिया-ए टीम में चुन लिया गया। वो उस टीम के साथ जिंबाब्वे और केन्या के दौरे पर गए।

11. जिंबाब्वे में अच्छा प्रदर्शन करने के बाद जब इंडिया-ए टीम केन्या पहुंची तो वहां त्रिकोणीय वनडे सीरीज में केन्या के अलावा पाकिस्तान की जूनियर टीम भी मौजूद थी। धौनी ने इस टूर्नामेंट की छह पारियों में 362 रन बनाकर भारतीय कप्तान सौरव गांगुली का ध्यान पहली बार अपनी तरफ खींचा था।

12. 2000 की शुरुआत से लेकर विश्व कप 2007 के बीच भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम ने दिग्गज बल्लेबाज राहुल द्रविड़ को विकेटकीपर के रूप में आजमाया था और कई सालों तक उन्हीं से काम चलाया गया। इसी दौरान जब एक विशेषज्ञ विकेटकीपर-बल्लेबाज की जरूरत महसूस हुई तो धौनी के लिए रास्ता खुला।

13. धौनी को पहली बार 2004-05 के बांग्लादेश दौरे के लिए वनडे टीम में शामिल किया गया। यहां बेहद खराब शुरुआत हुई। वो पहले ही मैच में शून्य पर आउट हो गए।

14. खराब शुरुआत के बावजूद भारतीय कप्तान ने उन्हें पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ वनडे सीरीज के लिए चुनने की इच्छा जताई। धौनी ने इस टूर्नामेंट के दूसरे ही मैच में विशाखापट्टनम के मैदान पर पाक के खिलाफ 123 गेंदों पर 148 रनों की धुआंधार पारी खेल डाली। ये किसी भी भारतीय विकेटकीपर द्वारा सबसे बड़ा स्कोर था।

15. श्रीलंका के खिलाफ 2005 की वनडे सीरीज में धौनी का आक्रामक रूप एक बार फिर दिखा जब जयपुर में उन्होंने 145 गेंदों पर नाबाद 183 रनों की धुआंधार पारी खेलकर टीम इंडिया को जीत दिलाई। ये उनका वनडे का सर्वश्रेष्ठ स्कोर है। उसी साल वनडे क्रिकेट में दिनेश कार्तिक के खराब प्रदर्शन के बाद टेस्ट टीम में भी उनको जगह मिल गई।

16. लगातार अच्छा प्रदर्शन करने वाले धौनी अप्रैल 2006 में तब एक बार फिर सुर्खियों में छा गए जब बल्लेबाजों की आइसीसी वनडे रैंकिंग्स में उन्होंने ऑस्ट्रेलियाई दिग्गज रिकी पोंटिंग को पीछे छोड़कर शीर्ष स्थान हासिल किया। हालांकि ये स्थान एडम गिलक्रिस्ट ने एक हफ्ते बाद उनसे छीन लिया था।

17. माही को लगातार अच्छे प्रदर्शन के आधार पर पहली बार विश्व कप टीम में शामिल किया गया। ये मौका था वेस्टइंडीज में 2007 विश्व कप का।

18. टीम इंडिया 2007 विश्व कप में बांग्लादेश के खिलाफ हार गई थी। बाद में भारतीय टीम को पहले ही राउंड में बाहर का रास्ता देखना पड़ा था। इसका गुस्सा भारत में दिखा और फैंस ने रांची में उनके घर को नुकसान पहुंचाने का प्रयास किया।

19. धौनी को 2007 में पहली बार वनडे टीम का उपकप्तान बनाया गया और उसी साल जून में उन्हें पहली बार बीसीसीआइ ने ग्रेड-ए का अनुबंध दिया।

20. धौनी को 2007 में पहले टी20 विश्व कप के लिए भारत का कप्तान बनाया गया। सचिन, गांगुली और द्रविड़ जैसे दिग्गजों ने टी20 न खेलने का फैसला लिया था और युवराज ने कप्तान बनने से इनकार कर दिया था। भारत ने ये विश्व कप जीतकर इतिहास रचा और लंबे बालों वाले धौनी दुनिया में छा गए।

21. सितंबर 2007 में ही उन्हें ऑस्ट्रेलिया के खिलाफ वनडे सीरीज के दौरान वनडे टीम का कप्तान बनाया गया जबकि अगले साल नवंबर में कुंबले के संन्यास के बाद उन्हें पूर्ण रूप से तीनों फॉर्मेट में भारत का कप्तान घोषित कर दिया गया। इसके अगले साल यानी 2009 में भारत ने उन्हीं की कप्तानी में आइसीसी टेस्ट रैंकिंग में शीर्ष स्थान हासिल किया।

22. 2011 में भारतीय टीम ने उन्हीं की कप्तानी में वनडे विश्व कप जीता। धौनी ने फाइनल में मैच जिताऊ पारी खेली और छक्के के साथ देश का 28 साल का इंतजार खत्म किया।

23. साल 2013 में धौनी की कप्तानी में भारत ने वो खिताब भी जीत लिया जिसकी कसर बाकी थी। ये खिताब था आइसीसी चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी का।

24. मार्च 2013 में धौनी ने सौरव गांगुली के रिकॉर्ड को पीछे छोड़ते हुए सबसे सफल भारतीय टेस्ट कप्तान बनने का गौरव हासिल किया। गांगुली की कप्तानी में भारत ने 49 टेस्ट में से 21 में जीत दर्ज की थी। यही नहीं, 2016 में रिकी पोंटिंग को पीछे छोड़ते हुए वो सबसे ज्यादा अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैचों में कप्तानी करने वाले खिलाड़ी भी बन गए।

25. दिसंबर 2014 में धौनी ने ऑस्ट्रेलिया दौरे पर अपने व टीम के ढलते प्रदर्शन को देखते हुए अचानक सीरीज के बीच में टेस्ट से संन्यास की घोषणा कर दी। ये जिम्मेदारी उसी समय विराट को सौंप दी गई थी।

26. जनवरी 2017 में धौनी ने अचानक वनडे व टी20 टीम की कप्तानी छोड़ने का फैसला किया। इसके साथ ही विराट कोहली तीनों फॉर्मेट के कप्तान बन गए।

27. आइपीएल में धौनी शुरुआत (2008) से ही चेन्नई सुपरकिंग्स टीम के कप्तान रहे और उनकी कप्तानी में चेन्नई ने 2010 और 2011 में आइपीएल का खिताब, जबकि 2010 और 2014 में चैंपियंस लीग टी20 के खिताब जीते। चेन्नई की टीम दो सालों के लिए निलंबित होने के बाद वो पुणे की टीम के कप्तान बने। फिर 2017 सीजन में अचानक उन्हें कप्तानी से हटा दिया गया। हालांकि इस टीम के साथ भी वो आइपीएल खिताब जीतने में सफल रहे।

28. 2011 विश्व कप जीत के बाद फोर्ब्स पत्रिका ने धौनी को दुनिया के सबसे अमीर खिलाड़ियों की सूची में 28वें पायदान पर रखा था। वो 28 मिलियन डॉलर की सालाना कमाई के साथ उस समय क्रिकेट इतिहास के सबसे अमीर खिलाड़ी बने थे। फिलहाल ताजा आंकड़ों के मुताबिक विराट कोहली ने उन्हें पीछे छोड़ दिया है और अब तकरीबन 20 मिलियन डॉलर की कमाई के साथ दुनिया के दूसरे सबसे अमीर क्रिकेटर हैं।

29. धौनी ने 2010 में अपने जन्मदिन से ठीक तीन दिन पहले अचानक देहरादून की साक्षी रावत से शादी कर ली। सबको इन दोनों की नजदीकियों की खबर तो थी लेकिन धौनी ने 3 जुलाई को सगाई की जबकि फटाफट अगले दिन ही शादी करके सबको चौंका दिया था। उन्होंने अपनी शादी में सिर्फ कुछ करीबी लोगों को बुलाया जिसमें क्रिकेटर आरपी सिंह और बॉलीवुड स्टार जॉन अब्राहम भी शामिल थे।

30. धौनी शुरुआत से जॉन अब्राहम के फैन थे और यही वजह थी कि उन्होंने शुरुआत में लंबे बाल रखे हुए थे। बाद में धौनी और जॉन अच्छे दोस्त बन गए और देखते-देखते दोनों ने लंबे बालों से तौबा कर ली। पाकिस्तान के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति परवेज मुशर्रफ ने एक क्रिकेट मैच के अंत में धौनी के बालों की तारीफ भी की थी और उन्हें अपने बाल न कटाने की सलाह तक दे डाली थी।

31. अपने दोस्त जॉन अब्राहम की तरह धौनी को भी बाइकों का शौक रहा है। जैसे-जैसे कमाई बढ़ती गई, धौनी का बाइक कलेक्शन भी बढ़ता गया। कुछ खबरों के मुताबिक आज धौनी तकरीबन दो दर्जन बाइकों के मालिक हैं। जिसमें हेलकैट, हार्ले डेविडसन जैसे महंगी बाइकों के साथ-साथ उनकी सबसे पुरानी व पहली बाइक भी उनके साथ है।

32. धौनी 6 फरवरी 2015 को पिता बने। साक्षी ने एक बेटी को जन्म दिया जिसका नाम उन्होंने जीवा रखा है।

33. क्रिकेट के अलावा धौनी व्यापार की दुनिया में भी सक्रिय रहे हैं। धौनी हॉकी इंडिया लीग में खेलने वाली टीम रांची रेज के सह-मालिक हैं। इंडियन सुपर लीग में वो चेन्नईयिन फुटबॉल क्लब के सह-मालिक हैं। इसके अलावा बाइक रेसिंग की दुनिया में भी उन्होंने कदम रखा और अभिनेता नागार्जुन के साथ सुपस्पोर्ट विश्व चैंपियनशिप में टीम खरीदी जिसका नाम माही रेसिंग टीम इंडिया रखा गया।

34. धौनी अपने इस पूरे सफर के दौरान कई अवॉर्ड भी जीतते आए हैं। उन्हें 2007-08 में सरकार ने राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। वहीं, क्रिकेट की दुनिया में उन्होंने 2008 और 2009 में आइसीसी वनडे प्लेयर ऑफ द इयर और 2013 में एलजी पीपल्स चॉइस अवॉर्ड भी जीता। इसके अलावा 2008 से 2014 तक लगातार सात सालों तक वो आइसीसी वनडे टीम में शामिल रहे, जबकि 2009, 2010 और 2013 में आइसीसी वर्ल्ड टेस्ट इलेवन में शामिल रहे। अगस्त 2011 में इंग्लैंड के लेस्टर में स्थित प्रतिष्ठित डी मोंटफोर्ट यूनिवर्सिटी उन्हें मानद उपाधि से सम्मानित कर चुकी है। वहीं, उसी साल नवंबर में उन्हें भारतीय प्रादेशिक सेना में मानद लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल बनाया गया।

35. सातवें महीने की सातवीं तारीख में जन्म लेने वाले धौनी का 7 नंबर से जुड़ाव हमेशा से रहा है। वो इसे अपना लकी नंबर मानते आए हैं। भारतीय टीम हो या आइपीएल की टीम, हर जगह उनका जर्सी नंबर.7 ही रहा है। उनके बल्ले और हेल्मेट से लेकर कीपिंग ग्लव्स तक हर जगह ये नंबर लिखा देखा जा सकता है। उनकी ज्यादातर गाड़ियों व बाइकों में भी यही नंबर छाया हुआ है।

36. अपने इस स्वर्णिम सफर के दौरान धौनी कई बार विवादों और आलोचनाओं के बीच भी नजर आए। 2013 में उन पर हितों के टकराव का आरोप लगा, दावों के मुताबिक रिति स्पोर्ट्स मैनेजमेंट में धौनी की हिस्सेदारी थी। सीनियर खिलाड़ियों के टीम से बाहर होने को लेकर भी उन्हें घेरा गया। इसके अलावा युवराज सिंह के पिता योगराज सिंह ने धौनी को उनके बेटे के ढलते करियर का जिम्मेदार बताया और काफी आलोचना की। वहीं, 2013 के आइपीएल स्पॉट फिक्सिंग कांड में जब उनकी टीम चेन्नई सुपरकिंग्स और टीम के मालिक एन.श्रीनिवासन विवादों में घिरे तो धौनी का नाम भी इसमें घसीटा गया। वहीं, एक मैगजीन के कवर पेज पर भगवान विष्णु के रूप में धौनी का दिखना भी विवादों का कारण बना और मामला अदालत तक जा पहुंचा था।

कैप्टन कूल कहे जाने वाले महेंद्र सिंह धोनी टीम इंडिया के सबसे सफलतम कप्तान माने जाते हैं। एम एस धोनी का ये 36वां जन्मदिन है। इस हफ्ते धोनी की शादी की सालगिरह भी थी।

2004 से अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में कदम रखने वाले माही आज किकेट की बुलंदियों पर है। 7 जुलाई 1981 को जन्मे धोनी के लिए यह जन्मदिन इसलिए भी बहुत खास है, क्योंकि इस बार उनके साथ उनकी बेटी जीवा भी हैं।

कुछ सालों पहले महज 300 रुपए के लिए काम करने वाले धोनी पर आज करोड़ों की बरसात होती है। हर बड़ा ब्रांड उनके लिए लाइन लगाए खड़ा रहता है, लेकिन आसमान की इस ऊंचाई पर पहुंचने के लिए धोनी को काफी मशक्कत करनी पड़ी।

एक छोटे शहर की गलियों में क्रिकेट खेलने वाले धोनी कैसे आज इस मुकाम पर पहुंचे इसकी कहानी बेहद दिलचस्प है।

महेंद्र सिंह धोनी का बचपन

महेंद्र सिंह धोनी का जन्म 7 जुलाई 1981 को झारखंड के रांची में हुआ था, उनके पिता का नाम पान सिंह और मां का नाम देवकी देवी है, धोनी की एक बहन जयंती और एक भाई नरेंद्र भी है।

धोनी के परिजनों ने कभी सोचा भी नहीं था, कि उनका बेटा एक दिन पूरी दुनिया में उनका और अपने देश का नाम रौशन करेगा। धोनी की पढ़ाई रांची के जवाहर विद्यालय में हुई, इसी स्कूल में सबसे पहले धोनी ने क्रिकेट का बल्ला भी थामा था।

टिकट कलेक्टर की नौकरी

धोनी ने पहली बार 18 साल की उम्र में रणजी मैच खेला था, धोनी बिहार रणजी टीम की तरफ से खेलते थे, इसी दौरान रेलवे में बतौर टिकट कलेक्टर धोनी की नौकरी भी लग गई और उनकी पहली पोस्टिंग पश्चिम बंगाल के खड़गपुर में हुई थी।

2001 से 2003 तक धोनी खड़गपुर के स्टेडियम में क्रिकेट खेला करते थे, 22 साल की उम्र में धोनी रेलवे की नौकरी करने खड़गपुर पहुंचे, लेकिन धोनी को ये नौकरी रास नहीं आई।

धोनी को तो कुछ और ही करना था, यही वजह थी कि खड़गपुर में धोनी ने क्रिकेट की अपनी एक नई दुनिया बसा ली, धोनी वहां रेलवे की टीम के लिए खेला करते थे।

धोनी के बारे में कुछ दिलचस्प बातें

SBI to cut NEFT, RTGS charges by up to 75%

New Delhi : In a push to digital payments, state-owned lender SBI will cut charges on electronic transfer of funds through NEFT and RTGS by up to 75 per cent from Saturday, benefiting nearly 5.27 crore customers, a release said on Thursday.

“The reduced charges will be applicable on the transactions done through internet banking (INB) and mobile banking (MB) services offered by the bank,” it said while releasing the revised NEFT and RTGS charges from July 15.

A day after it waived charges on Immediate Payment System (IMPS) transactions of up to Rs 1,000, State Bank of India (SBI) on Thursday lowered transaction charges on transfers made through the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) channels.

As per the revised schedule, the NEFT charges on fund transfer up to Rs 10,000 has been halved to Re 1, and to Rs 2 for up to Rs 1 lakh. For transfers between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, the NEFT charge will be reduced to Rs 3 from the existing Rs 12.

The charge above Rs 2 lakh has been fixed at Rs 5 as against the current Rs 20. For RTGS transactions, the charges will be Rs 5 for transactions between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.

NEFT transactions of up to Rs 10,000 will now attract a charge of Rs 1, transactions between Rs 1,001 and Rs 1 lakh will be charged at Rs 2, those between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh will be charged Rs 3, while transactions involving higher amounts will be charged Rs 5. Earlier, these charges were Rs 2, Rs 4, Rs 12 and Rs 20, respectively.

Currently, the bank charges Rs 20 for such transaction. If a customer transfers more than Rs 5 lakh through the RTGS channel, he will be charged Rs 10 as against Rs 40 currently.

There are different charges if the fund transfers are made in bank branches through executives.

All the new charges will attract GST rate of 18 per cent. The country’s largest lender has also waived charges for fund transfer of up to Rs 1,000 done through Immediate Payment Service (IMPS).

RTGS transactions of between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh will now be charged Rs 5, as against Rs 20 earlier, and those involving higher amounts will be charged Rs 10, down from Rs 40 earlier. The new charges, which are exclusive of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), will come into effect on Saturday. They will be applicable only to transfers made through internet or mobile banking.

“In sync with our strategy and complementing the focus of Government of India to create a digital economy, we have taken one more step to promote use of internet banking and mobile banking for doing NEFT and RTGS transactions by reduction of the charges,” said Rajnish Kumar, Managing Director, State Bank of India.

At March-end, SBI had 3.27 crore Internet Banking customers and nearly 2 crore Mobile Banking customers.

SBI Ecowrap, the bank's research unit, said, "If demonetization had not happened, it would have taken three years more for credit and debit cards transactions on point of sales (PoS) terminals to reach the current level of Rs 70,000 crore (assuming a yearly growth rate of 25%). We believe that increasing number of PoS terminals (post demonetization, banks have been able to set-up 11.8 lakh extra PoS terminals) and ease of doing digital transaction will increase this level further. Similar trends are observed in the case of usage of pre-paid instruments (include m-wallet, PPI cards and paper vouchers) and mobile banking, too. PPI witnessed a sharp growth with transactions value worth Rs 10700 crore in May 2017 compared with Rs 5,100 crore in November 2016.

टीम इंडिया के लिए वेस्टइंडीज दौरे का समापन अच्छा नहीं रहा, क्योंकि उसे सीरीज के एकमात्र टी-20 में विंडीज ने रविवार को बुरी तरह हरा दिया. विंडीज के ओपनर एविन लेविस (125 रन, 62 गेंद, 6 चौके, 12 छक्के) ने अकेले दम पर मैच को अपनी टीम की झोली में डाल दिया. किंग्सटन के सबीना पार्क स्टेडियम में सीरीज का एकमात्र मुकाबला खेला गया, जिसमें विंडीज कप्तान कार्लोस ब्रैथवेट ने टॉस जीतकर पहले फील्डिंग का फैसला किया. टीम इंडिया में पहले बैटिंग करते हुए 20 ओवर में 6 विकेट पर 190 रन बनाए. जवाब में विंडीज टीम ने 18.3 ओवर में 1 विकेट पर 194 रन बना लिए. एविन लेविस (125 रन) और मर्लन सैमुअल्स (36) नाबाद लौटे. लेविस ने 25 गेंदों में फिफ्टी बनाई, जबकि 53 गेंदों में शतक पूरा किया. टीम इंडिया के लिए दो गलतियां भारी पड़ीं. पहले मोहम्मद शमी और विराट कोहली की भिड़ंत के कारण 47 रन पर उनको जीवनदान मिला. फिर 55 के निजी स्कोर पर उनको एक और जीवनदान मिला, जब दिनेश कार्तिक ने कैच टपकाया. इस बार भी भी विराट कोहली कैच लेने के लिए दौड़े थे और कार्तिक ने गलतफहमी में कैच छोड़ दिया. इसके बाद लेविस ने कोई मौका नहीं दिया और जिताकर ही लौटे. क्रिस गेल ने 18 रन बनाए. डेब्यू मैच खेल रहे कुलदीप यादव ने गेल को करियर का पहला शिकार बनाया, लेकिन इसके बाद कोई विकेट नहीं ले सके.

किसी भी क्रम में बल्लेबाजी कर सकता हूँ : कोहली

खुद कोहली का भी मानना है कि श्रीलंका में मिली कामयाबी कि एक वजह यह भी रही कि जरूरत के हिसाब से खिलाड़ियों की बैटिंग पोजिशन तय की गई। वह कहते हैं कि ये फॉर्मूला उन पर भी उतना ही लागू होता है और जरूरत पड़ी तो वह ओपनिंग के लिए भी तैयार हैं। कोहली ने कहा हैं कि , "टेस्ट में मैं अलग-अलग बैटिंग पोजिशन पर बल्लेबाजी करता दिख सकता हूं। जरूरत पड़ी तो ओपनिंग भी कर सकता हूं। टेस्ट में अपनी बैटिंग पोजिशन के बारे में वह यकीन के साथ नहीं कह सकते, लेकिन वनडे में उन्हें नंबर 3 पर बल्लेबाजी करना बेहद पसंद है।" कोहली ने आगे कहा "मैंने वनडे में लंबे समय तक नंबर 3 पर बल्लेबाजी की है। वहां मुझे अंदाजा होता है कि किस हिसाब से बल्लेबाजी करनी है, लेकिन टेस्ट में सचिन पाजी के रियाटर होने के बाद मुझे 4 नंबर दे दिया गया। पुजारा नंबर 3 पर अपनी जगह बना चुके थे।"

भारत को श्रीलंका में मिली जीत के पीछे टीम इंडिया के टेस्ट कप्तान विराट कोहली का बहुत बड़ा हाथ था. उनकी कप्तानी में भारत ने श्रीलंका में जीत के 22 सालों के सूखे को खत्म किया. उनकी कप्तानी की एक ख़ास बात यह रही कि उन्होंने टीम की ज़रूरत के हिसाब से बल्लेबाजी क्रम में फेर-बदल किए. फिर बात चाहे अजिंक्य रहाणे को नंबर 3 पर बल्लेबाजी करने का निर्णय हो या फिर रोहित शर्मा को नंबर 5 पर खिलाने का. इन सब प्रयोग के पीछे कप्तान कोहली का बहुत बड़ा हाथ था.

भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम के स्टार बल्लेबाज़ अजिंक्य रहाणे ने हाल ही में बड़ी प्रतिक्रिया ज़ाहिर की है। उन्होंने कहा कि वह किसी भी क्रम पर बल्लेबाजी करने के लिए तैयार हैं। वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ पांच मैचों की एकदिवसीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सीरीज में सलामी बल्लेबाज़ के रूप में शानदार बल्लेबाजी करने वाले अजिंक्य रहाणे ने यह भी माना कि हाल ही में संपन्न सीरीज में उनका आत्मविश्वास बढ़ा है।

गौरतलब है कि वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ हाल ही में संपन्न पांच मैचों की एकदिवसीय सीरीज में अजिंक्य रहाणे सबसे ज्यादा रन बनाने वाले बल्लेबोंजोंकी कतार सबसे आगे रहे हैं, वहीँ भारतीय टीम ने इंडीज को उसी की धरती पर 3-1 से पराजित किया। आज टीम इंडिया वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ एकमात्र टी20 मुकाबला खेलने उतरेगी, वहीं वेस्टइंडीज की टीम में धाकड़ बल्लेबाज़ क्रिस गेल की लगभग 15 महीने बाद वापसी हुई है। गेल को टी20 क्रिकेट के सर्वश्रेष्ठ बल्लेबाजों में से एक माना जाता है। उनके आने से वेस्टइंडीज टीम मजबूत हुई है।

रहाणे का मानना है कि आपको पिच के हालात के अनुसार बल्लेबाजी करनी होती है जैसे कि उन्होंने यहां वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ तीसरे एकदिवसीय मैच के दौरान किया. रहाणे ने कहा कि जब वह अंतिम एकादश में शामिल नहीं थे तो उन्होंने इस समय का इस्तेमाल अपनी फिटनेस में सुधार के लिए किया जो कैरेबियाई सरजमीं के उमस भरे माहौल में काफी काम आ रहा है.

अजिंक्य रहाणे ने पत्रकारों के साथ बातचीत करते हुए कहा, "वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ एकदिवसीय सीरीज शानदार रही। आगे भी बेहतर प्रदर्शन की उम्मीद करता हूं। इससे मेरा आत्मविश्वास बढ़ा है। मैं अपनी टीम के लिए किसी भी क्रम पर बल्लेबाजी करने को तैयार हूं। मैं इसके लिए पूरी तरह तैयार हूं। मैं वनडे और टी20 क्रिकेट में अपना ध्यान आगे भी केन्द्रित करना चाहता हूं। सीमित ओवरों के क्रिकेट में मैं और अच्छा निखार लाना चाहता हूं। उन्होंने कहा, "मैं चौथे क्रम पर पहले से ही बल्लेबाजी करता आया हूं। इस लिहाज़ से मुझे अंदाजा है कि मध्य और ऊपरी क्रम में कैसे बल्लेबाजी करनी होती है।"

It's the syndrome that we're talking about," two individuals keenly involved with affairs of Indian cricket administration over the last few months told TOI.

Ganguly's former teammate Rahul Dravid is a case in point. In the middle of the hullabaloo over whether Dravid could've continued in the role of India's junior national coach while being a mentor to an IPL franchise, it was he who took the first step in sorting out the confusion. Dravid wrote a letter to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) seeking clarity on his role and, in turn, provided the solution.
