Over the last few months, telecom operator Reliance Jio has been silent in the tariff department because it’s still offering the best prepaid plans in the industry and no other telco has been able to match it. After close to ten months, Reliance Jio has introduced a prepaid plan, but don’t get excited as it’s an annual plan, not a three-month or monthly prepaid plan. Jio has come up with an annual prepaid plan of Rs 1,699 taking the competition to a whole new level in the telecom industry. With the new prepaid plan, the telco is providing an excellent 1.5GB data per day, which takes the overall data benefit to 547.5GB for 365 days. Not only that, the telco has come up with a Diwali offer under which it’s offering 100% cashback to all the users on every prepaid plan.

BSNL has now launched a new prepaid plan of Rs 78 ahead of Diwali. That being said, it’s one of the best prepaid plans priced under Rs 100 from the state-run telco. BSNL is shipping a total of 20GB data along with unlimited voice calling with this prepaid plan. And the best part is the plan’s availability is across the 20 telecom circles where BSNL is operating.

Vodafone launched a couple of prepaid plans priced at Rs 511 and Rs 569 taking on Airtel and Reliance Jio’s offerings. With the Rs 511 prepaid plan, Vodafone is offering a whopping 168GB of 4G data and this plan takes on Airtel’s Rs 499 prepaid plan which also provides similar data benefit. The Rs 569 prepaid plan, on the other hand, takes on Airtel’s Rs 558 prepaid plan as both of them provides 3GB daily data for 84 days. Notably, both the Rs 511 and Rs 569 prepaid plans from Vodafone are valid across the countr.

Reliance Jio Rs 1,699 Prepaid Recharge: Benefits and Details

Jio’s new prepaid recharge of Rs 1,699 offers benefits for 365 days from the date of recharge. This new plan from the telecom service provider provides 1.5GB of 4G data every day which takes the overall data benefit for 547.5GB. Jio users recharging with this plan can also enjoy unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit and 100 SMS per day for the same validity period.

Notably, this is the cheapest yearly prepaid plan launched by any 4G telecom service provider in the country right now. BSNL also come up with a similarly priced plan of Rs 1,699, but the telco is providing just 3G data benefit. And the data benefit offered by Reliance Jio is also acceptable for the most part.

Reliance Jio Diwali Offer: 100% Cashback on All the Prepaid Plans

Furthermore, Reliance Jio has come up with a Diwali offer under which the telco is offering 100% cashback on all the recharge value. Prepaid plans eligible for the cashback are: Rs 149, Rs 198, Rs 299, Rs 349, Rs 398, Rs 399, Rs 448, Rs 449, Rs 498, Rs 509, Rs 799, Rs 999, Rs 1,699, Rs 1,999, Rs 4,999 and Rs 9,999. Notably, all the prepaid plans priced above Rs 100 are eligible for the 100% cashback offer. For the users recharging with the newly launched Rs 1,699 prepaid plan, Jio will offer them three vouchers of Rs 500 worth and one voucher of Rs 200.

All these prepaid plans will receive 100% cashback voucher which can be redeemed across all the Reliance Digital stores on a minimum purchase of Rs 5,000. Do make a note that a user can not club two vouchers with one transaction. And the vouchers will expire on December 31, 2018.

In addition, you must know that some of the items on Reliance Digital Stores are not available for redemption using these vouchers. The items exempted from this offer are gift vouchers/gift cards of Cleartrip, KFC, Bookmyshow, Google Play and Google. Hard disks of Seagate, Western Digital, Sony and tables of Lenovo and Samsung are not applicable under this offer. Lastly, you can not purchase any phones of Samsung and Xiaomi using these vouchers.

Jio Crossed 250 Million Subscriber Base

Reliance Jio, the telecom arm of Reliance Industries Limited has amassed 250 million users in just 25 months after opening the services to the public. RIL made this announcement yesterday, and this new Diwali offer comes as a perfect announcement to celebrate the milestone.

BSNL Prepaid STV 78: Benefits and Validity

Moving onto the benefits offered by this new prepaid plan from BSNL, it offers unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit to any network within India. Notably, BSNL is offering voice calls even to the numbers located in Mumbai and Delhi circles. Furthermore, BSNL is touting unlimited video calling option with this prepaid plan which can be activated by sending an SMS to 123 as ‘STV COMBO78.’

And finally, we get to the data benefit. With its new Rs 78 prepaid plan, the telco is offering a total of 2GB data per day, post which users will get speeds of 80 Kbps. Anupam Shrivastava CMD BSNL said that on the “Occasion of Durga Puja, Dussehra and Diwali, STV-78 will suit to all and will enable them to be in touch with their family and friends during the festive season.”

The validity of the plan is ten days, meaning users will be able to enjoy high-speed data of up to 20GB.

BSNL Withdraws Existing Prepaid STV 78

For the unaware, BSNL is already offering an STV 78 for its prepaid users in various circles. After the introduction of new STV 78, BSNL has withdrawn the earlier available similar denomination prepaid plan. The withdrawal plan offers 2GB of data for a period of three days, but it was introduced long back before the entry of Reliance Jio. So BSNL has revised its Rs 78 plan to offer ten times data benefit than earlier, and it also added unlimited voice calling benefit to the pack.

BSNL Keeps on Taking Private Telecom Operators

In the last few weeks, there has been a shift towards voice-only plans with Vodafone and Airtel leading the way. But BSNL is following the footsteps of Jio as it continues to offer combo prepaid plans which offer equally better voice calling and data benefits. The newly launched STV 78 is a clear example. Vodafone has recently launched a prepaid plan of Rs 279 offering unlimited voice calls and 4GB data for 84 days. Then there’s a Rs 189 prepaid plan with unlimited voice calling and 2GB data for 56 days. BSNL is offering neither these plans, but the telco has its own set of plans which prove to be better than private telecom operators tariff plans.

Vodafone Rs 569 and Rs 511 Prepaid Plans: Benefits and Details

Getting into the specifics, the all-new Rs 569 plan by Vodafone ships 3GB of 4G/3G data per day along with unlimited voice calls capped daily and weekly according to the FUP limit. There are also 100 SMS per day bundled in the pack. On the other hand, the Rs 511 plan gives 2GB of 4G/3G data per day combined with the usual unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day. The validity of both the plans is 84 days. The cap for voice calling has been set at 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week for these plans.

On the whole, Vodafone India is offering 252GB of 4G/3G data at just Rs 569 for 84 days, and the Rs 511 plan gives 168GB data for 84 days. Clearly, the Rs 569 plan is a better one even as it’s priced slightly higher.

Vodafone Continues to Sell Other Prepaid Plans of Rs 549 and Rs 509

Besides these new plans, Vodafone continues to sell its other prepaid plans of Rs 549 and Rs 509, offering 3.5GB data and 1.4GB data per day for 28 days and 90 days respectively. Like other Vodafone plans, these prepaid packs also come with 100 SMS per day along with unlimited calling benefits.

Vodafone Rs 569 vs Airtel Rs 558 Prepaid Plan

On the other hand, Airtel is also offering a prepaid plan of Rs 558 which gives a user 3GB data per day, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for a period of 82 days. While Vodafone is restricting the voice calls to 250 minutes per day, Airtel doesn’t have any such FUP limit on its voice calls.

In contrast, Reliance Jio has a Rs 448 prepaid plan that offers 2GB of 4G data per day benefit for 84 days, while the Rs 498 plan gives 2GB data per day benefit for 91 days.

Aforesaid, Vodafone India is still offering the Rs 549 and Rs 509 prepaid plans, which takes on Jio’s prepaid offerings. The Rs 549 prepaid plan is currently offering 3.5GB data per day benefit while the Rs 509 plan is providing users with 1.4GB data benefit per day. The Rs 549 plan is valid for 28 days whereas the Rs 509 plan is valid for 90 days.

Vodafone Beats Jio in the Data War

With the Rs 569 plan, Vodafone India has managed to beat Reliance Jio in the data war. With this plan, Vodafone has brought down the value of per GB to just Rs 2.25 and that’s a masterstroke from the country’ second largest telecom service provider. Vodafone might remove the Rs 549 prepaid plan anytime as the Rs 569 plan has been introduced as a pan-India plan.

Govardhan Puja 2018: Significance and History of Govardhan Puja or Annakut Puja

According to the scriptures, the people of Vrindawan used to offer lavish meals to Lord Indra-The God of rain and storm, to make sure he blesses them with timely rainfall and good harvest. Little Krishna found the practice to be too harsh for the small-time farmers, and convinced them to stop making these offerings to Lord Indra and feed their families instead. On not finding his ritualistic offerings, Indra sent down rain and thunderstorm out of anger in Vrindawan. The rains continued for days.
Fearing for their lives, the villagers approached Krishna for help who then asked everyone to proceed to the Govardhan hill. Once there, he lifted the whole hill with his little finger, people trickled under the hill to take shelter from the storm.

Krishna stood there for seven days, holding the mountain on his little finger without moving. Ultimately Indra had to bow to the might of Krishna and stop the rains. Post this episode, women of Vrindawan cooked 56 dishes for Krishna. It is said that Krishna took 8 meals in a day. Since he stood for seven days without a single morsel of food, the women decided to make up for it with a lavish chappan bhog (a meal consisting 56 items like halwa, ladoos, mishri and peda).

On this auspicious day, several pilgrims go to the Govardhan hill and offer food and delicacies to Lord Krishna. Those who cannot go to the Govardhan hill, offer him the bhog of 56 items in their homes. Devotees celebrate Govardhan pooja by literally offering a mountain of food to Lord Krishna called Annakoot. Some of the common items found in the chappan bhog are makhan misri, kheer, rasgulla, jeera ladoo, jalebi, rabri, mathri, malpua, mohan bhog, chutney, murabba, saag, dahi, rice, dal, kadhi, ghewar, chila, papad, moong dal ka halwa, pakoda, khichadi etc.
There is also a common ritual of making small mounds of cow dung to represent Govardhan Mountain, which is then beautifully decorated with flowers.

Here's wishing all of you a very Happy Govardhan Puja!

Diwali is one of the most important festival celebrated by Hindus all around the world. Diwali 2018 will be celebrated on 7th November in most parts of India, and on 6th November in the South Indian states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Hindu residents of Singapore will also celebrate Diwali along with these three states on November 6th, 2018. The festival and its celebrations usually last for five days, among which the third day is the main day. During all the five days of Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali, Badi Diwali, Govardhan Pooja and Bhai Dooj, houses, temples and public places are all lit up with lights and earthen lamps. The themes of 'victory of good over evil' and 'victory of light over dark' are associated with the festival. The festival falls in the month of Karthik, according to Hindu calendar. According to the Gregorian calendar, the festival falls during the months of either October or November.

Also referred to as the festival of lights or Deepavali, Diwali celebrations have evolved in countless ways over the years. It is considered auspicious to buy new goods during the days preceding Diwali. Hindus are busy cleaning and renovating their houses and repairing furniture. People also paint their houses and rooms in new colours and purchase new home appliances, clothes and other things in the run up to Diwali. The third day of the five-day festival marks its climax and is a public holiday in the Indian subcontinent.

Diwali 2018: Dates, Calender, Lakshmi Puja Muhurat and Special Foods Served On Deepavali

Importance Of Diwali

Diwali is a word that has been derived from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, which means a "row or a string of lights". The word is a conjugation of "deepa" or an earthen lamp and "vali" or a continuous row or series of something. The festival falls during the beginning of autumn and at the end of summer harvest. Diwali coincides with the darkest day of the year, also known as Amavasya. This day is the darkest of Hindu lunisolar calendar. Although the festival has been known as a predominantly Hindu festival, it's also celebrated by Jains, Sikhs and Newar Buddhists. However, the day marks different historical events and stories for all these religions.

The significance of Diwali varies regionally within India, with people worshipping different deities on the day and following different traditions. One of the most well-known traditions of Diwali is associated with the Hindu epic of Ramayana. This tradition celebrates the victory of the King of Ayodhya, Ram, over the demon king Ravana of the kingdom of Lanka. Diwali is the day when Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman, returned to Ayodhya, after a period of 14 years of exile. Legend has it that the kingdom had lit up with lamps, with people rejoicing and celebrating the return of the righteous heir to the throne.

Here are the dates for all the five days of Diwali 2018 and a day-wise significance:

1. Dhanteras 2018

Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 5th, 2018 this year. This is the day that most people go out to buy new things like utensils, gold coins and jewellery. Houses and offices are cleaned and decorated with earthen lamps and artificial lights.

2. Chhoti Diwali 2018

This day is also known as Narak Chaturdashi, but is commonly known as chhoti Diwali. Falling on November 6th 2018 this year, this is a major day for purchasing sweets made from various ingredients for guests, friends and family. Halwais or sweetmeat makers work over time to meet the increased demand for sweets like laddos, halwas and more, during the run up to this day. Families are also busy preparing homemade delicacies for the guests who visit on the main day of the festival, that is, Diwali.

3. Diwali 2018

This is the main day during the five-day festival and is also known as the day of Lakshmi Pujan. This is because Goddess Lakshmi, who is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, is worshipped on this day. The muhurat or auspicious timing for conducting Lakshmi Pujan this year is between 5.57 pm and 7.53 pm on November 7th, 2018. During this time, the family gets together and recite prayers and sing holy songs in unison. After the conclusion of the prayers, everyone takes blessings from the holy flame and indulges in sweets. This is the time to meet and greet with friends, family and relatives and exchange gifts and sweets.

4. Govardhan Puja 2018

This is the day right after Diwali and this year it will be celebrated on November 8th, 2018. This day celebrates the unique bond between husband and wife and in some Indian regions, this is the day when husbands give gifts to their wives. In yet other regions, parents invite their newly married sons or daughters along with their spouses to a family meal and bless the couple with gifts.

5. Bhai Duj 2018

Bhaiya Duj or Bhau Beej is the last day of the five-day festival and this year, it will be celebrated on November 9th, 2018. This day celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, the brother travels to his sister's house and the 'tilak' ritual involves the sister decorating her brother's forehead with a round of vermillion. The day is similar in spirit with another Hindu festival of Rakshabandhan.

Diwali 2018: Special Foods and Sweets

Diwali is a festival of indulgence and it's hard to resist the wide variety of sweets and delicacies that flood the markets, around this time. It's customary to keep a plateful of dry fruits, nuts and some sweets ready for when guests come home and offer the same to them. Food is central to Diwali celebrations and people start preparing to make a number of sweets and savouries to serve to their guests on Diwali evening. Along with bursting of crackers and exchanging sweets, eating mithais made in pure desi ghee and mava is an indelible part of Diwali.

The kind of traditional sweet and savoury foods cooked during Diwali varies from region to region. But what doesn't change in Diwali feasts across the country is the level of richness in all the foods on offer.

Happy Diwali 2018!

It's only been a few days since we concluded our Dussehra and Durga Puja celebrations, but the nation has no time to pause and breathe it seems. Why, you ask? Because Diwali 2018 is just around the corner! This year Diwali would be celebrated on 7th November, 2018. But before the festival of lights, there awaits a line of other festivals too, the preparations of which have also begun in full swing. The auspicious day of Dhanteras falls on 5th November this year, and Choti Diwali would be celebrated on 6th November, 2018. Choti Diwali is also known as Naraka Chaturdashi and falls on Chaturdashi (fourteenth day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Vikram Samvat Hindu Calendar month of Kartik. Read to know why the festival holds such immense significance in Hindu faith.

Choti Diwali 2018: Significance and History of the Naraka Chaturdashi

Choti Diwali is celebrated a day before Diwali. In many parts of the country, the festival is celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi. It was named after the great battle of Narakasura and Lord Krishna. According to scriptures, the demon king had held 16,000 girls in his cruel hostage. Lord Krishna defeated the demon and relieved the girls from his rule. Since the girls were unsure of their future and acceptance in the society, they went to Lord Krishna for advice. Lord Krishna and his wife Queen Satyabhama, decided that they should all marry Lord Krishna and be recognised as his wives.

On Choti Diwali, many people perform Abhyang Snan or take a bath in the holy Ganges River. According to scriptures, taking the holy dip could absolve a person of his previous sins and he/she could be saved from going to Naraka or hell. Til or sesame oil is used for ubtan or a special face mask that is applied during the holy bath. After the bath, people deck up in new clothes and enjoy a sumptuous breakfast. In Maharashtrian households, puran poli and misal pav preparations are very famous.

Diwali Puja Vidhi
