Smart locks can be great when you need to give someone temporary access to your home and don’t want to hand over a copyable key, or you just want to be able to use your smartphone for access to your pad rather than digging through your purse or bag for your keys.

One way you might not be using your smart lock but should is through a smart assistant like Google Home.

When you have your smart lock connected to a voice assistant, particularly Google, you can do things like have the door unlock while you’re headed up the driveway, or unlock the door when guests arrive for a dinner party and you’re still busy in the kitchen. It sounds like something that you’d never need to do —and then you need to do it and it works and it’s awesome.

In order for that to work, you have to first set the feature up (along with a passcode so random passerby can’t unlock your house through an open window). Here’s how that happens:

1.Launch and log into the Google Assistant app
2.Tap the blue drawer icon in the upper right corner
3.Select Settings > Home Control
4.Tap the plus sign icon in the bottom right corner to Add devices
5.Select August Home
6.Sign in with your August account information to
7.Set your security code if you wish to use the unlock feature
8.You will now see your August lock(s) listed in Google Assistant’s Devices section
Once they’re connected up, you can also ask the assistant on your phone (or whenever) if your door is locked, or even closed, which as someone who asks herself this question every night when I’m in bed and about to fall asleep, I can tell you is pretty awesome.

If you have both a smart lock and a smart assistant device, it’s worth seeing if you can connect the two together for some increased functionality.

How many people out there are still using AOL Mail? I assumed it was all of three people, but apparently there’s still a considerable number of you clinging to your aol.com accounts. Do you hope AOL will make a grand resurgence one day? Are you nostalgic for the sounds of a dial-up modem? Do you hate Gmail? You can move providers; it’ll be OK.

In this week’s Tech 911 column, we’re taking a look at a question that has its roots in AOL Mail, but is applicable to everyone who has ever felt that panic when they accidentally sent an email before it was ready (or typo-free).

How Do I Schedule An Email Reply

Lifehacker reader Mike writes:
“AOL used to offer the ability to write an email and then delay its being sent. In other words, one could compose an email, but not have it be sent until a particular time on the following morning by which time said emailer would have committed the deed. Does AOL Mail still offer this feature? Do any other providers?”
Delayed (or scheduled) sending is one of the best features any email provider, web app, or mobile app can offer. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been rescued by Gmail’s built-in delayed sending feature (which you can set up here, under the “Undo Send” section). When you enable it, Gmail adds an automatic delay of up to 30 seconds, which gives you a small window to undo your message if you suddenly realize you made a catastrophic mistake.

The problem with this feature—and I’m lumping the concept of “scheduled emails” in there as well, which allows you to set a specific time for when you want an email to go out—is that it all depends on what how you’re accessing a particular email service.

For example, Undo Send works perfectly in the web-based version of Gmail, but you can’t access this functionality if you’re using a Gmail app (at least, not when I wrote this column). The same is true for Outlook’s “delayed” and “scheduled” features—they work great in the desktop apps, not so much the online or mobile apps.

There are apps that come with delayed or scheduled sending built-in, and you should be able to use them to send and receive messages from most major email services. Try checking out Spark (for iOS) or MailDroid (for Android), which make it easy to schedule emails whenever you want.

You can also pick up a browser extension to enable this feature (or an even better version of it) for email services you already use. For example, Boomerang is an incredible extension for Gmail (or Outlook) that adds a lot more functionality beyond the simpler Undo Send feature—namely, email scheduling, rather than just a delay. With luck, Google will eventually bake this kind of a feature directly into Gmail, but for not, an extension is your best bet.

Google Forms are the best tool for creating online polls, surveys, quizzes, and questionnaires. The form submissions are automatically stored in Google Spreadsheets, making it easier for you to analyse the submissions, and your forms can receive an unlimited number of responses.

When a user submits your Google Form, a row is added to the destination Google Sheet with all the answers. The tutorial explains how you can save your Google Form responses in a customized PDF file in Google Drive and have it emailed automatically to one or more recipients via Gmail.

For this example, we are building an event registration form with Google Forms. The attendees fill the form, select the session(s) they wish to attend and an email confirmation is sent to them instantly. A PDF document is attached and it contains the form answers and also a dynamic QR Code that can be scanned at the event venue.

Create PDFs with Google Forms – DEMO

Before we get into the implementation details, please try the live workflow so you have a better idea of what we are building.

First, fill-in this Google Form and submit. Your form response is saved in this Google Sheet and, within a few seconds, you’ll receive a personalized email with a PDF attachment. It contains a QR code and a unique registration ID that is generated automatically with the =QRCODE() formula.

Internally, the workflow is using this Google Document to merge the Google Forms data into a PDF file. We picked PDF for this example but you can generate documents in any format including Word documents, Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint Slides, ePub and more.

How to Create PDF Documents with Google Form Responses

To get started, create a new Google Form and choose a destination Google Spreadsheet where the responses would get saved.

Next, create a template in either Google Docs, Google Slides or Google Sheets. In your template, the variable fields should be enclosed inside double curly braces and the field name should exactly match the question title in your Google Form.

For example, if your Google Form question is “Full Name”, the marker in your document template would be {{Full Name}} and it will be automatically replaced with the answer submitted by the form submitter.

install Document Studio

Next, install Document Studio for Google Sheets and authorize the add-on. Now open the Google Spreadsheet that is storing your Google Form responses, go to the Add-ons menu, choose Document Studio and open the sidebar to build the workflow.

First, expand the Document Merge section and choose the document template from Google Drive that you have created in the previous step. Choose a file name of the exported file – it can be a fixed name – like event.pdf – or a dynamic name like {{full name}}.pdf where the file name is customized based on file answers.

Next, expand the Mail Merge section in Document Studio’s sidebar, turn on the “Send Emails” option and create an email template using the built-in WYSIWYG editor.

You can customize the template by adding variable placeholders, like {{First Name}}, in the email subject and message body for personalized emails. Choose the field where you asking for the submitter’s email address to send them an email when they submit the form. You can add more emails (comma-separated) in the “Email Specific People” to notify more people when forms are submitted.

If you would like to add markers to the merged document that aren’t present in the Google Form, you can use the help of Google Sheets array formulas.

For instance, if your Google Form question is Full Name, you can add a new column in the Google Sheet for First Name and use the following formula to automatically get the first name from Google Form submissions that can be used in the email and document template.

Finally, expand the “Finish and Merge” section and check the option Merge on Form Submit. Click Save to turn the workflow and submit a test entry in your Google Form.

Users often turn off ‘location history’ or ‘location services’ and think that Google is no longer tracking them and it is not collecting any location data from their devices, but that’s not true. A report from Associated Press had recently revealed that Google tracks our location for providing personalised search results based on our location and advertising.

Even after turning off the location toggle, Google still tracks location based on the services people use such as weather, maps, search and also using an IP address. In fact, while pausing the location tracking services, it warns you that “some location data may be saved as part of your activity on other Google services, like Search and Maps.”

To stop this altogether, users need to turn off ‘Web & App Activity’ service of their Google account. This will stop Google from tracking and keeping a log of your location history.
In case you are wondering on how to do this, follow our ready-to-use-guide for you:

For Android devices:

1. Open ‘Settings’ and tap on ‘Google’
2. Head to ‘Google Account’ and look for ‘Data & personalisation’ tab
3. Toggle Web & App Activity off
To turn off location history:
1. Go to the ‘Data & personalisation’ option
2. Tap on ‘location history’ option and toggle off the setting for each and every device linked to that Google Account

For iOS (iPhone/iPad) and Windows devices:

1. Open ‘https://myaccount.google.com/activitycontrols’ on your browser
2. Sign in into the account using your credentials
3. Toggle off the ‘Web & App Activity’ settings
4. Also, turn off the ‘Location history’ toggle located just below the ‘Web & App Activity’ settings

I’m a tremendous fan of night or “dark” modes for websites and apps. A darker background uses less battery power and is easier on your eyes than a bright white one. It’s a win-win. I’ve written before about a few Chrome extensions that will let you turn on a dark mode for everything you do. This week I came across a new one that works specifically for Google Docs.

Called Darkdocs, the extension does exactly what you think it does: adds a dark mode to Google Docs.

With it, the background of your Google Doc will be black, and the writing white. The difference can make writing in a dark room more pleasant for both yourself and those around you and can help curb battery drain places like airplanes where power might be at a premium.

Since it’s a Chrome Extension, it can also be easily toggled off and on using a button on your Chrome toolbar. That way you can switch back and forth if your preferences change in the middle of a writing session.

When Google unveiled the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, they also announced a new camera feature that wasn’t available at launch: Night Sight. Google showcased the feature by comparing a photo taken in low light conditions by an Apple iPhone Xs and a Google Pixel 3 with Night Sight enabled. The photo taken by the Pixel 3 was clearly superior, but it wasn’t until XDA Senior Member cstark27 released a modified version of the Google Camera app enabling Night Sight ahead of its general availability that people realized just how incredible Night Sight really is. The modified version only worked on the Google Pixel, Google Pixel 2, and Google Pixel 3, but now XDA Senior Member Arnova8G2 has released a port of Google’s camera app with a working Night Sight mode. So far, it has been confirmed to work on the Xiaomi Mi 5 (by the developer himself) as well as on the Essential Phone (by us and multiple community members.)

Posting on our OnePlus 6 forum, Arnova8G2 updated readers on his progress getting Night Sight working on the OnePlus 6. He states that while features like HDR+ enhanced, Motion photos, RAW capture, Portrait Mode, panorama, and Photosphere work, other features like burst capture, slow motion, Photobooth, and the new Night Sight mode don’t work on the OnePlus 6 just yet. However, the new feature now works on some devices like the developer’s Mi 5 and, in our own testing, on the Essential Phone. While you won’t yet get the same quality as seen in our initial testing of the feature on the Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 3/3 XL, it’s a promising start for future editions of the Google Camera port.

We recommend you keep an eye out on the XDA forum thread here for all the latest updates from Arnova8G2. If you’re interested in trying out this initial port on your device, you can download it from the link below. Just don’t expect it to be as good as what Pixel owners are getting, at least not yet.

Google not just has Gmail as one of the most productive tools but also has other G Suite apps such as Docs, Sheets, Slides and more. These are used by several million users both on PC and mobile platforms. Although you have a different web link to visit the Docs, Sheets or Google Slides, which you have to type, open and then start working on, now you can simply type an URL to begin working on a new file.

The search giant has announced on Twitter that now onwards one can simply open a new tab and type ‘docs.new’ or ‘doc.new’ or ‘document.new’ to open a new document file and get going. This saves you a few clicks and several seconds to open a new document file. Similar ‘.new’ extensions have been introduced for Sheets, Forms and Slide.

“Introducing a .new time-saving trick for users. Type any of these .new domains to instantly create Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites or Forms,” tweeted the Google Docs official page.

You can access sheet.new, sheets.new or spreadsheet.new to create a new sheet file. Slides.new and slide.new are also available in addition to forms.new and form.new.

On a related note, Google earlier this month introduced new ways to add images and charts from other files to Google Docs and Slides. You can do it using the ‘Explore’ feature. With it, one can search for Google Drive files related to what you’re currently working on. This feature is available for basic G Suite users in addition to Business and Enterprise users.

Google recently also introduced ‘compose actions’ add-ons for Gmail wherein you can easily attach a file saved in third-party cloud storage service without downloading it and attaching it again. For now, the integration exists for Box, Dropbox and Egnyt.

Google Chat Service a Precious Gift to Cybercriminals and Government Spies: Amnesty
Google's decision to launch a new messaging service called Chat without end-to-end encryption shows utter contempt for the privacy of Android users and has handed a precious gift to cybercriminals and government spies alike, Amnesty International has said. Earlier this week,Google spokesperson confirmed that the new service will not use end-to-end encryption and that Google is "pausing investment" in its existing mobile messaging app "Allo" which has an option for end-to-end encryption.
"Not only does this shockingly retrograde step leave Google lagging behind its closest competitors -- Apple's iMessage and Facebook's WhatsApp both have end-to-end encryption in place by default -- it is also a step backwards from the company's previous attempts at online messaging," Joe Westby, a technology and human rights researcher at Amnesty International, said on Friday. Amnesty International considers end-to-end encryption a minimum requirement for technology companies to ensure that private information in messaging apps stays private. End-to-end encryption is a way of scrambling digital data so that only the sender and recipient can see it.
When it is in place, even the company providing the service is unable to access the content of communications. "Following the revelations by CIA whistleblower Edward Snowden, end-to-end encryption has become recognised as an essential safeguard for protecting people's privacy when using messaging apps. With this new Chat service, Google shows a staggering failure to respect the human rights of its customers," Westby said in a statement.
In the wake of the recent Facebook data scandal, Westby said that Google's decision is not only dangerous but also out of step with current attitudes to data privacy. "Google should immediately scrap it in its current form and instead give its customers a product that protects their privacy," Westby suggested. Google is going all in on building the Rich Communication Services (RCS). RCS is a communication protocol between mobile-telephone carriers and between phone and carrier, aiming at replacing SMS messages with a text-message system that is more rich, provide phonebook polling and transmit in-call multimedia.

Last week, I sent an email in which “Sorry about that!” was my automatic reply—I had forgotten something, and the person’s curt message made clear that they were less than pleased with me. But after a minute of consideration, I took out the “sorry” and told them I’d do what they were requesting ASAP. I did, the task got done and everyone was fine. No harm, no foul.

How to Stop Writing 'I'm Sorry' So Often in Emails

How to Stop Writing 'I'm Sorry' So Often in Emails

Days later, I’m still thinking about that email and if my reply came off rudely or not. To be clear, being rude was not my intention; when I took that extra minute to think about my response, I realized I had done nothing worthy of an apology. But as a woman (particularly a young woman responding to someone much older, and theoretically more authoritative), you get used to playing certain roles.

And the Automatic Apologizer is one of the most common, and one of the most difficult to break. Women are taught to be passive and make everyone comfortable. Our default is to apologize, even if there’s really nothing to apologize for. And I say this as someone who has apologized to inanimate objects more than once.

Writes Leah Fessler for Quartz:
As countless studies have proven, women apologize far more frequently than men do, largely because men are socialized to believe they have far less to apologize for.

This habit translates seamlessly online, where “lady language” manifests in women’s incessant use of exclamation points, reassuring emojis, and typed-out “sorry!!!”s. Such “hedges,” as gender linguist Susan Herring calls them, are the emotional labor of digital communication.
It’s something I’ve become more conscious of in the past year, and have taken steps to change. Playing the role of the meek people pleaser is very 2017 Alicia. That’s not to say I’m never apologizing again—some actions certainly warrant it. But not responding to someone’s email quickly enough or completing a task differently than someone else suggested do not rise to that level.

The key to saying “I’m sorry” less is, of course, being aware that you’re doing it. Taking a beat before rushing to respond helps. That’s one of the reasons why taking extra time to answer messages has become one of the most useful habits I’ve picked up in the past year or so. I write a response, sit back or switch tabs briefly, and then come back to it.

Another trick I like: Substitute “thanks” for “sorry,” as Quartz suggests. Instead of writing “sorry about that!” for example, you might write, “thanks for pointing that out.” Gmail also has a plug-in that can point out instances where you’re undermining yourself by using phrases like “I’m sorry,” “I just” and the cringingly passive, “I’m no expert but.”

If you don’t like these suggestions ... thanks for pointing that out. There. That was easy.

Gou’ve sent an important email to a colleague but it is lost in the deluge of emails they receive every day, buried and forgotten. They can obviously use Gmail search operators, like FROM: or SUBJECT:, to locate that email later but wouldn’t it be useful if there were a way to directly locate that one missing email in their mailbox.

Help Locate your own Email Message in Someone Else’s Gmail

Well, there’s an alternate search trick and the sender can actually help the recipient find any specific email message that they have sent in the past.

When you send an email through Gmail, a unique Message ID is added to the email header as per the RFC 822 specification. To know the ID of your message, open the email inside Gmail, go to 3-dot menu and choose Show Original. The Message-ID will be displayed in the first line of the header as shown the screenshot.
Help Locate your own Email Message in Someone Else’s Gmail
The Message ID of a particular email message is exactly the same for both the sender and the recipient. That means if the recipient opens the header of your email in their mailbox, the message ID will match that of the message in your Gmail sent folder.

Gmail offers a lesser-known search operator – rfc822msgid – that helps you search emails by their message ID.

So if our message ID is xyz@mail.gmail.com, a simple search like rfc8222msgid:xyz@mail.gmail.com will return the exact email in search results.
Help Locate your own Email Message in Someone Else’s Gmail

And that’s the trick. This search query will work for both the recipient and the email sender. So if you pass the message ID to the recipient, they can simply use the rfc822msgid operator to locate a specific email from you in their own mailbox.

Since the recipient ID is too complex, you can simply copy of the URL of the Gmail search page and pass them to the recipient. The URL will work for them as well since the Message ID is the same for them as well.

You can also use this search trick to bookmark emails in the browser.

How to delete your Google search history on Android
Once again keeping the user experience its priority, the search giant Google has once again updated The Google search application. With the new update, Google maintains a list of screenshots of your search history which is easily accessible by clicking the clock like icon placed at the bottom right corner of the search app. The app keeps the track of all the things you have searched according to days and you can swipe right to see any particular day you want.
Some might find this feature useful however; others might think that it is an invasion of their privacy. So, all those who want the screenshots to be saved can follow this simple hack and can disable this feature and can also deleted the stored screenshots. In order delete the screenshots, users just have to open their Google app and tap on the history icon placed on the main screen.
Then the list of the searches made in the past seven days will appear on their screen. Users can simply swipe up each search and can get rid of the screenshots. Apart from deleting the screenshots, users can also disable this feature.
Just go to the main screen and click on the three horizontal lines placed on the top of the left corner. There you will see the main menu. After that just go to Settings and then tap on Accounts & Privacy. After this another screen will appear and on that you just have to turn off the enable recent option. Once done the app will no longer store the screenshots of your searches.

Setting up Google Analytics is easy. You simply have to install the Google Analytics tracking code on the site and BOOM! Data starts flowing through your dashboard. Right? WRONG! One of the biggest mistakes most people make while setting up Google Analytics is they DON’T exclude internal IPs, and you may be one of them.
How To Use Google Analytics View Filters To Exclude Multiple IPs
How many times in a day do you check your own (or your client’s) website? Once? Twice? More than ten times? If it’s more than that, you have skewed data. The solution is to use the view filters to exclude yours and your client’s IPs from getting tracked in Google analytics.
Let’s take a look at how you can exclude: 1. Subnet Of IPs, 2. IP Ranges (Sequential), 3. Random IPs
How to Exclude Specific IP’s from Google Analytics for better reporting: #1 Exclude Subnet of IPs Let’s say you want to exclude all the subnets of IPs starting with 192.168.0.x, where x is any number. You can create a view filter with type as ‘predefined’, then select ‘exclude traffic from IP address that begins with‘ and paste the starting part of an IP ‘192.168.0’
Doing so will filter out all the IPs starting with 192.168.0 For Eg: 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and so on… Save the filter and you’re good to go.
#2 Exclude IP Range (Sequential) IP Range can be any range of sequential IPs, for eg: 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.0.9 192.168.0.10 – 192.168.0.19 & so on… I have seen a lot of people creating ten different filters for each IP, a very time-consuming job. The best way is to use REGEX to exclude the group of IPs in a single filter.
Here’s how you can do it. 1. Go to view filters and create a new one. 2. Choose Filter Type as ‘Custom’ and Filter Field as ‘IP Address’ 3. Add ‘^192\.168\.0\.[0-9]$’ in the filter pattern
The above example will exclude IP range from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.9 (10 IPs). I won’t go into much details about regex, but remember these basics: 1. ^ – denotes the start of the string 2. $ – denotes the end of the string 3. | – denotes the ‘OR’ 4. \ – denotes the escape character. 5. [0-9] – denotes any number from 0 to 9 Lastly, save the filter.
#3 Exclude Random IPs Well, most of the times you need to exclude the IPs of your home, office, mobile, and clients. These IPs are neither sequential nor a part of the same IP subnet; they are random. In that case, you can simply use the ‘OR’ in Regex which is denoted as ” | “. So if you have random IPs, say 193.168.0.34 & 127.101.1.1. You can use ^193.168.0.34$|^127.101.1.1$ \. As we discussed earlier ‘^’ denotes ‘starts with’, ‘$’ denotes ‘ends with’ & ‘|’ denotes ‘OR’ condition. So, if you have five random IPs, you can simply put it in this format: ^IP1$|^IP2$|^IP3$|^IP4$|^IP5$ Click Save.
Tip #1: Use Regex Tool To Verify The Syntax Sadly, Google Analytics does not provide the ‘preview‘ for IP address filters. No worries. You can use any Regex testing tool available online. One of them, which I use a lot, is Regextester. You can input your Regex pattern in the above row and paste all the IPs you want to exclude in the ‘Test String’ box. I have included four IPs in the Regex pattern and pasted the same in the Test String box (along with one extra IP). If the IPs turn blue, those are matched. If everything goes well, you can copy the same expressions and add ^ & $ at the start/end of each IP and use it in Google Analytics.
Tip #2: Use Tag Assistant To Test Different IPs Tag assistant is a chrome add-on which allows you to debug and test whether or not your Google tags are firing correctly. One of the features is to change the IP address. You can test the IP addresses which you have excluded via Regex filters one by one and click ‘update’. Tag assistant will re-analyze the reports and show you if the hits are well filtered. You can learn more about it here.
Final Thoughts
Google Analytics filters are non-retroactive. i.e., the filters will only alter the data moving forward. So make sure you exclude internal IPs at the initial stages of setting up the Google Analytics. This is a guest post by Ritwik. Google Assistant is gaining some new capabilities thanks to a deal with Fandango that should make ordering movie tickets a quick and easy process. Simply tell Google Assistant that you want to buy some movie tickets and you’ll see what’s playing nearby; you can dial in the specificity to find out just what’s playing at a specific theater or at which theaters a particular flick is going to be. The deal is going live on May the Fourth™ in honor of the Star Wars™ marketing holiday and the fact that advanced tickets for Solo: A Star Wars Story™ are going on sale today.
You can now easily buy movie tickets with Google Assistant
This functionality is something that’s been available on Siri, but Google Assistant allows you to make the purchase without downloading the Fandango app, which had pretty much negated most of the utility this feature had on Siri. For now, this launch is just for Google Assistant on Android phones, but if you’re perplexingly a heavy user of the Google Assistant app on iOS, then you’ll be able to get your movie ticket ordering functionality sometime later this year.

Google has become an integral part of people’s lives as it offers products and services which remain unmatched. In fact, a world without Google would send shivers down the spine of most people. One of the search giant’s most commonly used features is Google Maps. People who commute a lot always turn to Google Maps and the company keeps updating its features for its loyal users. Google has baked in features that are not available in competing navigation services. Some of these are yet to be used by most Android users. We list out 8 tricks of Google Maps that you can show off to your friends.
8 Google Maps tricks you should know
1. Offline maps : The advantage of having Google Maps is that you can download a section of the map. You can use your old smartphone as a GPS in your car or bike. The app gives a horizontal selection tool on the ‘Offline maps’ section and will also notify you of the amount of space being used. Any downloaded map is automatically updated once connected to Wi-Fi.
2. Set your default address : Now, that you’ve downloaded your maps offline, let us help you set up the basics -- your home and work address. Adding your home and office locations has a dual benefit. For one, it helps in quickly beginning navigation. Also, while you’re at work, you will be given alerts of traffic conditions on the routes back home.
3. Sharing your location : We do have friends who find it difficult to get to your location. Google has solved this by introducing the ‘location sharing’ feature. It allows you to share your location with your friends in real-time through the Google Maps app for a particular time period. So, this feature can be useful for those who find it difficult to convince their friends that they are where they say they are.
4. Places and businesses nearby : It happens often that you have nothing stocked up in your kitchen, and you suddenly get a call from a distant relative who say that they are coming to visit you. Or take an instance that you’re stuck in the middle of the highway, with your bike running on low fuel. With Google Maps, it’s easy to search for shops or petrol pumps. Just like the normal Google search engine, your keywords will lead you to the right results.
5. Single-handed zoom : Zooming in on the map while you’re navigating can be a little difficult. Double tapping on the section of the map that you want to dive into will automatically zoom into the map. To continue zooming in, you can double tap again on the screen, but ensure that your thumbs are still on the screen. You can now manually zoom in and out of the map.
6. Train and bus schedules : Google Maps in India includes timings for trains and bus services operating in your city. When searching for routes to your destination, you can filter the results to include different modes of public transport. The bus routes, the subsequent stops and the duration of your travel are updated according to your routes.
7. Track your own movements : Been to a place, but you can’t remember the name or the location? Don’t worry, as Google Maps has a history of your movements every single day. Heading over to Maps, you have an option of Timeline. Here, Google Maps shows you the places you’ve been and the routes you’ve taken. It also makes sure that you can update or delete data that Maps may have captured wrong.
8. Earn by becoming a Local Guide : Google Rewards is the company’s efforts to pay users for their invaluable time to provide feedback on services through surveys. The same programme is available on Google Maps in the form of ‘Local Guides’. Signing up for the rewards programme, you can add details pertaining to your locality like missing shops, update information about businesses, provide reviews on restaurants you’ve dined at. You can even post pictures to the platform, and earn from the app for your contributions.

The default layout of your Gmail inbox has the sender’s name listed in the left column followed by the subject and the date of the message. The emails are sorted in reverse chronological order with the newest messages listed at the top. The problem with this layout is that you cannot figure out who the actual sender of a message is without actually opening the email. For instance, if you get an email from Angus who works at Google and a different email from another Angus who is employed with Microsoft, Gmail will show Angus as the sender for both emails. To solve this exact problem, I wrote Gmail Sender Icons and it is now available for everyone. It is a Google Chrome extension that will make it easy for you to identify the company or the organisation of the email sender right inside the message list of your Gmail inbox. Check out the demo video and you’ll get the idea
.
The Gmail add-on extracts the email address of the sender, parses the website domain from the address and pulls the favicon image (often same as the logo) of the domain. It then appends the logo image and the company’s domain as a label to the message subject thus making it easy for you quickly identify the message sender. It runs entirely in your browser and not even a byte of your Gmail data is shared with anyone outside your browser. The Chrome extension internally uses the InboxSDK library to parse emails on the client’s side. When your inbox is flooded with emails and you’d only like to focus your attention on messages that are from known senders, this Gmail extension will be a big help. It shows the sender label in default message views and the search results. You can also use Gmail Sender Icons to quickly identify emails from known domains in the spam folder that may have been mistakenly identified as spam by Gmail filters. Give it a shot.
