Google SEO (in 2019) Backlinks, OnPage, RankBrain, CTR, Title Tags
No one on the planet earth can decline the fact that Trend of “Search Engine Optimisation,” precisely Google SEO, is increasing exponentially on the yearly graph. Google SEO in 2010 AND Google SEO in 2019 has been/ will be totally changed. (Note: Google is the largest search engine in the universe, thus, in this post, by search engine, we will refer to GOOGLE mainly.)
Undoubtedly, the reason is progressive alterations in the algorithms of Google or other Search Engine Giants. According to existing search engine optimisation gurus in the industry, there are more than 200 ranking factors to get higher rankings in Google.
But like another filtration processes in the market, Google also has three factors that are most preferred while assigning higher appearance in SERP (Search Engine Results Page). These are – content, backlinks and RankBrain. In an essay, Bill Gates in 1996 wrote “Content Is King,” and, after that, this quote of Microsoft Co-founder has gone viral. Viral and useful enough that it became of the major ranking factor of 1998 founded Search Engine Giant – Google. In the real world, it’s not content ONLY that will bring you higher rankings. Actually, it’s a mixture of all, mainly these three. Basically, content should be written in a manner that it satisfies a Google visitor.
Indeed, Google works on the most basic and crucial marketing strategy of all the time and is applicable to all the private and publicly held companies of this world i.e. USER SATISFACTION. When a visitor searches for any term in Google, algorithms of a search engine work in a manner of further sending that visitor to a website which can fully satisfy that customer. In a major way, ranking factors of the Google can be divided into following categories – Off-site webspam factors, On-site webspam factors, Brand Signals, Special Google Algorithm Rules, User Interaction, Backlink Factors, Site-level factors, Page-level factors and Domain Factors.
Domain factors mainly include- Country TLD extension, Penalized WhoIs Owner, Public vs. Private WhoIs, Exact Match Domains, Domain History, Keyword in Subdomain, Domain Registration Length, Keyword as the first word in Domain, Keyword appears in Top Level Domain and Domain Age.
Here, Page Level Factors mainly includes – Useful content, parked domains, user friendly layout, Page age, quantity of other keywords Page Ranks for, too many outbound links, priority of Page in Sitemap, Bullets and numbered lists, Reference and Sources, URL string, keyword in URL, WordPress Tags, Page category, human editors, URL path, URL length, Page’s PageRank, Domain Authority, HTML errors/W3C validation, affiliate links, reading level, broken links, Quality of internal links pointing to a page, Number of Internal links pointing to a page, multimedia, number of outbound links, content hidden behind tabs, helpful “supplementary content”, Hidden content on mobile.
Mobile SEO now matters more than anything thus – mobile usability, mobile-friendly update, syndicated content, grammar and spelling, outbound link theme, outbound link quality, Keyword in H2, H3 Tags, keyword prominence, historical page update, magnitude of content updates, content recency, Image optimisation, Rel=canonical, duplicate content, Google Hummingbird, entity match, use of AMP, page loading speed via Chrome, Page loading speed via HTML, page covers topic in-depth, LSI keywords in Title and Description Tags, Latent Semantic Indexing Keywords in Content (LSI), Keyword Density, Table of Content, Content-Length, TF-IDF, Keyword Appears in H1 Tage, Keyword in Description Tage, Title Tag Starts with Keyword, Keyword in Title Tag.
Importance of Backlinks in Google Rankings In 2019 One who has the perfected the art of Backlinks Building in search engine optimisation is the real master of SEO. Backlinks have been one of the most powerful signals which let the google know about your authority. Way three-four years back, Backlinks definition for Google was – the number of websites pointing a link to yours. But the definition has changed a bit in 2018 (will be changed in 2019 as well). Now Backlinks are counted as the number of authorised relevant pages/ websites pointing a natural link to your website. Both, if pages and websites are relevant, it’s best.
Even if the website is not in your niche and page is, it’s better (and will work). Supposedly, a news website like Washington Post is linking back to your Dog’s niche site. Although, the category of both the websites is not exactly the same. Yet, a dog news article on Washington post like “Noah’s Ark except it’s a school bus: Truck driver rescues 64 dogs and cats from floods of Hurricane Florence” if links back to your Dog niche article, it’s far far better than high authority backlinks from irrelevant niche websites. Thus, here’s what you need to take care of while guest posting also.
Earlier comment backlinks, profile backlinks and other spammy methods used to work. But, with the passage of time now, mainly editorial links matters the most. Earlier many bloggers while going for event blogging used to prefer Site Wide links. And, now, Google challenges you to take any on your long-term blog or even for a long time on event blog. Doing this may let your event blog blast even before the occurrence of the event. Then what works these days? Now, editorial or contextual links (with a very fine line between the facts that they are natural or they look natural) works best these days.
But, with the passage of time, even in 2019, the way Google count these editorial or contextual links may change. Thus, mainly Google SEO in 2019 will tend to unspammy methods directing in most possible user satisfaction. That is what RankBrain is made for. RankBrain is all the time LIVE working Google’s specially designed Artificial Intelligence-based Algorithm that keeps only and only – USER SATISFACTION in its machinery mind. Moreover, link juice flows from page to page. Thus, the webpage that links to you should also have high authority, natural, good and relevant backlinks pointing to itself.
Importance of OnPage SEO in Google Rankings In 2019 The term search engine optimisation OR (Google SEO 2019) is mainly divided into two portions i.e. OnPage SEO and OffPage SEO. According to SEO gurus in the market, major factors that leads to better On Page Search Engine Optimisation are boosting dwell time, posting long content, using social sharing buttons, Image optimisation, Sprinkling LSI keywords, boosting site speed, using internal links, using outbound links, using responsive design, dropping keyword in first hundred words, wrapping subheadings in H2 tags, dazzling with multimedia, wrapping your blog post title tags in H1 heading, adding modifiers to your title, starting title with keyword, using SEO friendly URLs.
Social Signals matters a lot. Not only in increasing the Moz’s domain authority or page authority but also helpful in Higher Rankins in the search engine. What is Google’s Take on this? In general, when a visitor reads an article on the web page of the site, he/ she lefts out without sharing the content. But there are times when the content is shared. And, this only happens when the writers have put enough efforts to make that article insanely awesome. In such a case, one who has read the content holds a wish that such awesome article should also be read by his/ her friends, family or others.
And, the good news is that – Google consider this signal a lot. When algorithms of Google observes how happy the user is from this article, content automatically tends to rank higher in Google SEO (Note: this will undoubtedly work in 2019 as well). Apart from that, make sure to sprinkle LSI keywords or Latent semantic indexing keywords in your blog post.
Not so expert person will now directly ask where to find these LSI keywords. It’s insanely simple. Just type and search your keyword in Google. Scroll down till last.
In the end, you will find written over there as Searches related to “keyword you have entered”. Just below that, a number of related keywords are given. You must make sure to sprinkle these keywords in your content with meaningful sentences. Like for OnPage SEO, LSI keywords (here in India at the time of writing this piece of content are) – On Page SEO Definition, On Page SEO Checklist, On Page SEO Techniques, On Page SEO 2019, On Page SEO Checklist 2019, What Is OnPage SEO and OffPage SEO, On-Page SEO Techniques 2019. Here’s you must be able to observe a pattern that all LSI keywords are either related to or revolve around OnPage SEO keyword.
Also, make sure to type in your focus keyword (if you are using the Yoast plugin in WordPress), OR, your target keyword in the first 100 words in a super meaningful manner. To increase the page of time, which is another most important Google Factor to stay at its position in 2019. make sure to put in a number of images/ videos and other multimedia. Why? because of all the bloggers in the house, Google only asks one thing to have – please, please, please create an engaging and compelling content.
Importance Of CTR (Click Through Rate) in Search Engine Optimisation In 2019 First of all, just remember that here we’re mainly talking about Organic CTR and not Adwords CTR. Although, indirectly, both are one and the same thing and have a common goal of receiving maximum possible clicks. Increase CTR always also led to higher rankings. Even in the case of earnings from Google Adsense, increased CTR leads to higher RPM, thus, more earnings. But an excess of everything is bad. Excessive inorganic CTR in google adsense may lead to permanent ban of your Google Adsense Account even without a proper warning. So, let’s ultimately understand the science behind “How Higher CTR helps in Greater Rankings.”
When a visitor searches for the keywords in Google, he/ she have a number of websites to go through. And, needless to say, maximum of them click on the website which is at the top. But, here is a game changer i.e. TITLE TAGS. Now, how title tags matter is – more appealing it is, you’ve greater chances of clicking through. How? here is an example. Supposedly, a student has taken JEE Mains examination and waiting for the results. (Note: JEE has a full form of Joint Entrance Examination which is an engineering entrance examination in India for admissions into Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for various UG and PG courses.)
Now at number 1 and 2 position are those websites who have not updated their page about the latest news according to which JEE Main 2019 Result has been announced. Thus, their title tags look something like this – JEE MAIN RESULTS 2019 RELEASING SOON ONLINE ON OFFICIAL WEBSITE. Now, on the other hand, website at the third position looks something like that – JEE MAIN RESULTS DECLARED FOR SESSION 2019, DIRECT LINKS AVAILABLE HERE. Hope you can see the difference. Since the third link is more updated, latest and holds greater user satisfaction.
Thus, now JEE Main students are more likely to click on the website on the third position. Here the game begins. As soon as RankBrain starts observing that third website is getting more clicks in comparison to first and second, it will put the third website on the first position and will shift remaining ones accordingly. Because Google will wish it’s other users also see that web portal first which is loved by the most in this field. This will indirectly lead to an increase in the Click Through Rate for that website which can also be checked with a detailed analysis in the GWT or the Google Webmaster Tools.
Following this example, you may have learnt the importance of alterations in your Title Tags. But, just apart from the user satisfaction, there is one more tip regarding Title Tag. Make sure to include your target keyword while publishing your article in your Title Tag. That’ll help Google recognize what your content is all about. Keeping these details in mind, you can increase your CTR at the minimum to 20% just be implementing the tips. The world knows that before clicking on your post link, visitors also go through Meta description, thus, take care of that as well.
Importance Of RankBrain In Google, Yahoo, Bing Rankings In 2019 As already discussed above – DWELL TIME, CONTENT SATISFACTION and CTR is the three most important factors based on which RankBrain works. And the interesting part is – All the three are related at a point. Here’s how – if you have a very well designed Title Tags, undoubtedly, you’re going to have an awesome Click Through Rate. Now, since the search engine’s visitors have already clicked on your website, they should stay for a longer time. Longer the better. The more visitor stays, it gives a signal to the  RankBrain that whatever is written on this page is extremely useful, that is the reason visitor is not leaving that page in a short time.
This time, user spending on your website irrespective of the fact whether it is – Average Time On Page OR Average Session Duration of the Page is known as the Dwell Time in the SEO or Bloggers Market. As of now, when it comes to Google SEO 2019, nothing matters more than RankBrain. In short, to have higher rankings, thus to get more visitors, your website should be an apple of the eye of RankBrain machinery AI-based algorithm. And, that is only possible when you create a compelling content overall.
In a complete in-depth analysis of RankBrain, SEO experts like Brian Dean put in front of the public that it not only filters the SERPs or Search Engine Results Page but also, understand the search queries or Keywords. In simple words, as soon as a person types in the keyword, RankBrain starts recording and analysing the procedure. It takes keyword as a concept more and keyword less. It observes the Google’s visitor practice. It will rank the website which satisfies that user and will downrank which does the opposite.
Search Engine Optimisation In 2019 (Conclusion) Besides, everything that is mentioned above. In 2019, SEO will change a lot, but basic was of getting higher rankings naturally won’t die. Once practiced all the above mentioned ones on your website, at the minor levels, also make sure to scrutinize through – temporary link schemes, reconsideration request, disavow tool, google dance, Google Sandbox, Selling Links, manual actions, links from articles and press releases, unnatural link spike, “Poison” anchor text, links from the Same Class C IP, Widget links, low-quality directory links, Unnatural Links warning, linking domain relevancy, link profile with high% of low quality links, penguin penalty, unnatural influx of links, Meta Tag Spamming.
And, this one you may not know about – IP address flagged as Spam, Excess PageRank sculpting, autogenerated content, affiliate sites, Fred, hiding affiliate links, ads above the fold, doorway pages, gibberish content, site-over optimisation, interstitial popups, popups or “distracting ads”, redirects, Links to bad neighbourhood, Panda Penalty, brick and mortar location, Brand Mentions on top stories, unlinked brand mentions, legitimacy of social media accounts, known authorship, official LinkedIn company page, site has twitter profile with followers, site has facebook page and likes, Brand + keyword searches, Branded searches, Brand name anchor text, payday loans update, Single site results for brands, easter egg results, image results etc.

A decade ago, when only a fraction of people had smartphones and internet access, we always used to resort to our parents, neighbors, or the neighborhood shops for directions, information, and more. But now, with the power of internet at our fingertips, answers to our queries is just a search away. Google wants to change that with its new hyperlocal social app, Neighbourly. Neighbourly is currently in beta. It is available in Mumbai for Android users. The app supports 8 Indian languages. There are times when you are looking for smallest of things, like a puncture guy or a mechanic nearby, or an estate broker to rent a flat. Take my example, my office has a canteen, and we get decent food.
But there are times I crave for a burger, or Chinese, or biryani. I do a Google search for nearby restaurants, but I have to choose from the listed restaurants. What I need is a friendly neighbor to advise me where I can enjoy the biryani or a bacon burger. And that is where Google wants the hyperlocal community to help people like me via the Neighbourly app. Neighbourly has been launched in India under Google’s “Next Billion Users” initiative and it is currently in beta. As a pilot, the app is available for Android users in Mumbai, and it will be expanded to other Indian cities too, but there is no word on when it will happen. If you are one of those outside Mumbai, you can join the waitlist and invite neighbors as well. As the app is made for India, it supports English, and 8 Indian languages including Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and more. What’s more, the app also supports speech recognition and voice input, so you can ask queries in your own language.
How to use Google Neighbourly app to get answers to your local queries
How to set up Neighbourly : Step One Head over to Google Play Store on your Android smartphone, and download Neighbourly. The app is close to 20MB in size.
Step Two Once the installation is complete, open the app, sign-in with your Google account and tap on continue. The app will then ask you for location permission, just allow and let it load.
Step Three The app will take your geo-location based on GPS, and set the neighborhood accordingly. Next, accept the terms and conditions, and tap on ‘promise’ to continue in the app.
How to use Neighbourly Using Neighbourly is very simple. On the home screen top left has an icon to access your profile information and settings to change your neighborhood, see your activity, and more. On the top right, you have an icon tapping on which you will be able to see your notifications. You will also see a card-based interface on the home screen where you will need to swipe to the left or right to read through questions asked by users. You can tap on the card which will show you the answers given by neighbors. At the bottom of the card, you will see an orange bar to submit your answer. If you want to ask a question, you will see a “+” icon to “Ask a question.” You will get some pre-filled templates such as “How do I..”, “Where is…”, “Can you recommend…” and more. Once you are done writing your question, there is a send button at the bottom right, tap on that post your question. In case you don’t want to type your query out, there is voice input option too, with a “mic” icon at the bottom. After tapping, you will see the next screen where you can start speaking, and then tap on the stop button. In case you want to ask a question in one of your regional languages, select a language from the drop-down menu at the bottom, and then speak. I tried posting questions in Marathi and Hindi, and the voice recognition feature works well without a hitch. The best part is there is already a community that will answer your questions.
I had asked a couple of questions, and despite the app just launched one day ago, I got a lot of responses from people. In fact, I also ended up giving some recommendation to some people about places where they can eat good food. The best part is, Google only shares your Name and photo, and not your full name, which is good. And when someone comments on the question you ask or likes your comment, you get notified about the same. Now, in a scenario where you are in Dadar (where your office is located), and when you go home (say Vashi), you can head over to profile, settings and change your neighborhood to ask a question, or answer the ones asked by others. Every time post a question or help someone by answering, you earn points. While you win and unlock badges of honor, you don’t get any incentive of any sorts. Overall, the app is interesting, and I ended up discovering a couple of good places to eat, that I wouldn’t otherwise via Google search or Zomato. It’s not just food, say, you are new to Mumbai, and living in Dadar.
You want to head to a place in Andheri and you’re clueless how to commute, your friendly neighbours (who may be strangers) can help you with the commute routes, but it taking a cab, a bus, metro or trains. Your questions can also be as simple as where to find a good pet doctor, or a plumber in your locality, cake shops, and more. The app UI is good, and it isn’t confusing to use. Google’s approach is good, but even the likes of Google Wave, Allo Messenger and Google+ among others had good number of users initially. What ultimately matters is the number of daily active users in the long run, and how the platform is helping the community and others. We will have to wait and see how the app performs as Google expands its reach beyond Mumbai in the coming months.

Google has added a new feature to its popular photo-sharing app Google Photos with the latest update. Google Photos will now offer a Star and Heart option on photographs, the company announced via its Twitter handle for the app. The two different reaction icons will serve two different purposes. The star-shaped icon will serve as “Favourites” button while the heart-shaped icon as “Like” button. Google said these features would start rolling out this week. The star button is designed for your own photos, and the option as such appear only for your own photos gallery. It is aimed to allow users to mark photos as a favourite. Tapping the star icon collects all the favourites into one automatically generated album, and works much like the heart icon in Apple Photos. To set any of your photo as a favourite, open the photo in full screen and then tap the star icon located towards the top right corner.
Google Photos Now Allows Users to Mark Pictures as Favourites
Once a person marks a photo as a favourite, these shots will appear in a new Favorites album. However, favourites won’t work on photos that are shared with you, unless you add the same photo to your own Google Photos library. Meanwhile, the heart icon is more of a revamped version of the “like” button and is available when viewing photos that friends or family have shared on the platform. Only those photos that are shared with you can be liked. The reaction is available both for individual photos and entire albums. When someone likes a photo or an album, a heart icon with a name appears underneath. These features are pretty great for the default photo sharing app as favourites icon beefs up Google Photos’ existing options to help users find photos faster, while the heart icon essentially serves as a social tool. Though seemingly minor additions, but it did take Google quite a lot of time to bring these features to Photos. The company was working on these features since last October. The latest features follow a few other changes to Google Photos shared by the company at its I/O developers conference earlier this month. Google announced new Photos features including quick edits enabled by AI to improve photos, colour pop, and the ability to colourise old monochrome images.

Gmail’s much-awaited update has been rolled out for a lot of users and is creating an intense hype owing to the new features that it brings to the platform. Reportedly, the revamp of the most used mail service costed Google a fortune, but it also aims at providing exceptional mailing experience to the users. Users of the previous version of the Gmail can update to the new one pretty easily by clicking on the gear icon on the upper right side of their screen and then clicking on ‘Try new Gmail’. The latest update has been said to bring a plethora of new features which are bound to surprise a lot of people. Let’s dive right in and see the top five features of the new Gmail.
Top 5 Features of the New Gmail Update
Confidential Mode When talking about the new update of Gmail it is hard to miss out on the ‘Confidential Mode’, it can also be said that this new feature is the one which has garnered the most attention. Like the name points out the confidential mode on Gmail will allow the users to have full control over how their mail is going to be used. This new feature will allow the receivers to only open by mail by entering a passcode which will be sent via SMS to their phones. Also, senders will be able to put an expiration date on sent emails, after which the email would be destroyed. This new additional feature is going to prohibit receivers from copying, forwarding, downloading and printing their emails. From a business point of view, this feature can be an essential one for a lot of people. Also, it is to be kept in mind that Google will release the update in a phased manner which means that not everyone will have access to the feature right away.
Smart Replies Although, Google has now explicitly named this feature this isn’t something entirely new to the platform. Under this functionality Google will scan through the mail and based on the context, it will suggest some probable replies to the users. Previous users of Gmail Android and iOS will relate to this since this feature has previously been seen on these two mobile platforms. This is expected to make replies easier for email receivers.
Improved Security and High-Priority Notifications
Google will now intensify the use of their Machine Learning algorithm capabilities to provide better security and privacy for their users. Under this, Google will alert users of emails which might be potentially threatening to the desktop users of the service. The platform will also suggest users unsubscribe from certain newsletters or emails if they don’t seem to be paying attention to them for quite some time. The Machine Learning aspect of Gmail will also cater to the high-priority notification which will ensure that really important emails aren’t missed out by the receiver.
New Customisations and Service Integrations It is being said that this new update has brought a lot of changes to the platform and did it too fast. That means there could be some problem for the users to get accustomed to the new interface. However, there is no denying the fact that the new Gmail has become better and more secure with the new upgrade. Also, the interface of the platform has gone through a revamp for better. Apart from the basic changes, Gmail has also now integrated its most used services in the Gmail desktop itself. It will include the likes of Google Keep, Google Calendar and Google Tasks etc. This integration of services will allow users to add events to their calendar, make notes in keep and access all of these through a single window.
Smart Compose This new feature is something which is yet to fully arrive on the platform. The new ‘Smart Compose’ functionality was announced by Google at the company’s annual developer conference Google I/O 2018. This new feature on the platform will help users autocomplete mails as they type the content in the compose window. Again, Google will probably make use of the machine learning algorithm to understand the context of the email and will then suggest phrases which can be possibly used by the sender. This feature is expected to make email composition a lot easier and faster for the Gmail users.

Google, as expected, announced some new features in its most used products – Google Photos, Gmail, News and more at the Google IO 2018 conference. These products now have deeper integration of AI. You can now compose emails quicker and edit images with ‘one-tap’ actions in Photos.
Google IO 2018: New features launched for Gmail, Photos, News and more
Gmail In Gmail, Google has introduced a new feature called ‘Smart Compose’ wherein the AI will draft emails for the user. This includes everything from greeting to your closing and even suggesting complete sentences in your emails. “Because it operates in the background, you can write an email like you normally would, and Smart Compose will offer suggestions as you type. When you see a suggestion that you like, click the “tab” button to use it,” says the blog post. This new feature will be rolling out to all the users in the next few weeks. It will also be made available for G Suite customers in the workplace in the coming months.
Google Photos In Google Photos, the search giant has introduced ‘One-Tap actions’ where users can easily edit images by brightening, sharing, rotating and arching them. “These suggested actions are powered by machine learning, which means you only see them on relevant photos. You can easily tap the suggestions to complete the action,” adds the blog post. The new photo creation tool plays with pops of color. It uses AI to detect the images’ subject and leave them in colour with the background in black and white. “You'll see these AI-powered creations in the Assistant tab of Google Photos,” says Google. The company has even introduced Google Photos partner program that gives developers the tools to support Google Photos in their apps.
Google Assistant Google Assistant also gets a bunch of updates that make it more naturally conversational, visually assistive and more helpful in general. One of the key announcements was that the Assistant now supports six different voices, which is possible using Google’s WaveNet technology from DeepMind. Furthermore, the new ‘Continued Conversation’ feature lets you talk to Google Assistant without giving ‘Hey Google’ voice commands over and again. It can carry out multiple actions as well. The search giant also introduced ‘Smart Displays’ that lets you quickly glance at responses provided by the Google Assistant. It will give users a quick snapshot of how their day looks like along with helpful suggestions based on the time of the day, users’ location and other parameters. Assistant is also coming to Google Maps navigation with a low visual profile to give you more information while you keep your hands on the steering wheel.
Google News Google has updated its News app with deeper AI integration. The ‘new’ app uses a different set of AI techniques “to take a constant flow of information as it hits the web, analyze it in real time and organize it into storylines,” says Trystan Upstill, Google News Engineer and product lead. The app now comes with a ‘For You’ section wherein users can stay updated with all the topics of their interest. “We start with a briefing of five stories that Google News has organized for you—a mix of the most important headlines, local news and the latest developments on the topics you’re interested in,” adds Upstill. The ‘Full Coverage’ feature shows a news story from different sources. This will let you see top headlines from different sources, videos, local news reports, FAQs, social commentary, and a timeline for stories. Furthermore, the Newsstand tab lets you easily search for a source and follow the news coming from that source. The updated app starts rolling today.

Google Maps has added a new feature that will give users the option to choose vehicles to show where there are, while they use the driving navigation to reach their destination. This is quite similar to the Mario Day Easter egg that Google Maps had, which swapped the blue navigation arrow to Mario and his kart. Munish Dabas, a User Experience (UX) Engineer with the Google Maps team was the one who announced this feature on Twitter. Incidentally, Dabas also announced the Mario Kart feature in the app. The feature at this point is only available on Google Maps for iOS, and not on Android or desktops.
Here’s How You Can Replace the Navigation Arrow on Google Maps With a New Car
So if you have got an updated version of the Maps app on your iPad or iPhone, you can make your navigation experience much more fun. The feature is available in India on iOS devices too. In order to use this feature, users will need to update to the latest Google Maps app. Then you’ll just need to start the navigation and tap once on the blue coloured navigation arrow. This will present you with three options: a red sedan, a green pickup truck, and a yellow minivan. Tap on any of the three to select the vehicle and this will replace the navigation arrow and become your virtual partner on the journey. The icon will remain same in future navigations too till you change it to another option or good old arrow. Interestingly, you can use these vehicles icons even if you opt for walking, a car or public transport for navigation purposes. Though a small tweak, this feature makes Google Maps trips certainly more fun. The Maps, after all, comes preinstalled on most Android devices and is favourite among iOS users too. It has around a billion active users worldwide and is considered one of the most popular navigation tools globally.

There’s a captivating race on in the word of technology at the moment. Google and Amazon are going all out to get customers in becoming ‘smart’ by purchasing their Google Home and Amazon Echo smart speakers respectively. While Amazon has had an edge in terms of first mover advantage, Google is playing catch up. We used the Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers to see how they stack up against each other. Here’s the comparison between the two smart speakers
Google Home and Amazon Echo: Which one to buy?
Setting up process: Both are equally good A steady Wi-Fi connection and a smartphone are the pre-requisites for using either of the devices. Without either of the two both the Amazon Echo and Google Home are worthless. For Google Home, you need to download the Home app whereas for Amazon Echo, you need to download the Alexa app. The setup process is nearly the same: connect the phone to the Echo or Home through Wi-Fi. You will then need to follow the simple steps to setup the device. Both devices are easy to set up but in our experience the Echo took considerably longer to set up than the Google Home.
Surprisingly, we did try the Amazon Echo Spot – the newest speaker by Amazon – and it connected in a jiffy compared to the Echo. Some points to remember: for Google Home, you need to be within four feet of the Wi-Fi router to get it up and running. No such thing is required for the Amazon Echo. The Google Home works only when you use two wakeup commands, “Ok, Google” and “Hey, Google”. For the Echo, you can say Alexa, Amazon, Echo and even Computer to get it going.
Design and controls: Amazon Echo is better In terms of design, both devices have gone minimalistic and kept thing simple. While the Google Home has a peculiar shape and comes in white colour – though the bottom fabric can be changed – the Echo has a cylindrical shape. The Google Home has capacitive touch buttons with LED lights in ‘Google’ colours – looks classy for sure. The Amazon Echo is more ‘flashy’ as it has LED lights that are powered every time you wake the device. On top of the Echo, there are the volume buttons, microphone button and another button for other commands. Google has kept it simpler – and better – as there are no buttons on the top of the device. Just tap the surface of the Google Home to increase or decrease volume.
There’s a button switch off the microphone which is on the rear side of the Google Home. The Echo is definitely heavier than the Google Home but that’s moot point as neither of the devices work without being connected to a power socket. So, portability isn’t an option with these smart speakers. Both Amazon Echo and Google Home can be connected to other speakers through Bluetooth. The Amazon Echo gives you an additional option of connecting another device through a 3.5-mm port which is lacking in Google Home.
Sound quality and audio performance: Google Home is better In terms of sound quality and audio performance is hands, the Echo has a slight edge over Google Home as it is certainly louder. Even when it comes to voice recognition, the Echo is better equipped as it has seven far-field microphones inside it for better recognition. The Google Home’s audio performance is much better. The voice texture is good as is the bass response when compared to the Echo. The Echo is certainly louder but lacks the finesse and almost every song you play sounds pretty same as it doesn’t manage instrument separation very well. As far as playing music is concerned, both devices support third-party apps such as Gaana and Saavn. While Amazon has a treasure trove of music on its Amazon Music, Google has the option of Google Play Music.
Smart assistants: Google Home has a slight edge It’s a bit tricky to judge these devices on the performance of their AI-based voice assistants. We asked the same questions to Amazon Echo and Google Home and got a mixed bag of responses. For example, we asked the Amazon Echo “Alexa, remind me to watch the Manchester United match at 9pm”. At 8.56, there was a reminder that buzzed on the Echo. With Google Home, we gave the same command and got a notification reminder on the smartphone also. Both devices are equally capable of setting alarms and answering basic questions, telling jokes (they aren’t funny ones)play music on command. Having said that, the Echo does a better job of playing regional music as it understands other languages better than Google Home – as of now.
Google Home has a big advantage that it has the backing of Google’s powerful ecosystem, so its Assistant is certainly smarter. Having said that, if you are deep into Amazon’s shopping, music and Prime – then the Echo has the edge. Google Home also has the added advantage of Chromecast as you can ask it to play videos on YouTube or stream content from Netflix. The Echo, surprisingly, doesn’t have support for its Fire Stick at the moment.
Amazon Echo vs Google Home: Both are good We tried certain smart devices – like the Philips Hue bulb --with the Echo and Home and both worked smoothly. It’s fun to ask the speakers to dim the light or brighten it. While the ecosystem of smart products is still very limited, do keep in mind that these devices cost a lot. Their functionality is not in doubt and both the Echo and Home do a fine job of managing it.
Which is the better choice? Depends on what you prefer Like most devices, both the Amazon Echo and Google Home have their share of pros and cons. Google Home has an edge over Echo in terms of its bigger and powerful ecosystem. Not to forget, that one is more invested in Google than one is Amazon – at least at the moment. If you’re an online shopper and Amazon is your go to website, then the Echo is the perfect buy as it really eases the whole process. As standalone music devices, the Amazon Echo is louder than the Google Home.
Amazon Echo’s voice recognition is also better than the Google Home but in terms of overall audio performance, the latter offer a superior experience. At the moment, Amazon might have had a head start on Google but simply for the fact that one is more reliant on the search giant, gives the Home a slight edge. Having said that, the Echo is a powerful device that won’t let you down either. In the end, the choice will come down to what appeals most as both devices are reliable and powerful.

It has been a few months since the Apple iPhone X has hit the shelves around the globe. The device was the first by Apple to come with a ‘notch’ and the developers were quick enough to make their apps support the new display design. Google, being one of the biggest developers, did make its Gmail support the new display design carried by the iPhone X but it ignored the alternative – Inbox by Google. However, after months, the search giant has finally said it is working to make Inbox by Google, support the iPhone X. The news came directly from the company itself to Wall Street Journal. The report says that Google plans to update the Gmail alternative ‘soon’.
Google to soon bring Apple iPhone X support for its Gmail alternative
However, the exact date is not yet known. “Also, this didn’t make the column, but: Inbox for iPhone X is coming. Google says soon. It did a bunch of crazy one-off interface stuff that the X totally broke, and it took way longer to update then Google expected. (Also Gmail is clearly more important.),” tweeted David Pierce from the Wall Street Journal. The search giant has been focussing a lot on its Gmail service lately. Few days ago, the company revamped the UI of Gmail for all the users across the globe.
In addition to this some new features are also there such as Confidential Mode, Offline Support, Nudging feature, option to access the attachment without opening the mail, high priority push notifications, assistive unsubscribe, smart replies, new side panel and much more. The rollout of the ‘new’ Gmail UI and features has already begun and will be phased over the next few months. The ‘regular’ Gmail users can try the new features under the Settings menu where an option of ‘Try new Gmail’ will be available. However, this too will be phased so if you don’t find it immediately do not panic.

Planning to buy Google Home, Amazon Echo or any other smart speaker? 7 questions to ask before buying
There’s a flurry of activity in the smart speaker market in India. Google recently marked its presence in the segment armed with two new devices, Google Home and Google Home Mini. On the other hand, Amazon has been active in the segment with its Echo range of smart speakers. Yet, there are more questions than answers – ironical as smart speakers have all the responses – about how to make the best use of them. Or is it actually worth buying a smart speaker and if you do then how does it make life better? Buying a smart speaker is just the beginning and if you really want to be ‘smart’ then there’s a host of things you need to consider. Here we list out some of those things:
1. There can be language and accent issues : While it’s all well and good to seek information and ask questions to smart speakers, there is a language barrier. Don’t go expecting the smart devices to understand the local accent to talk to you in your native language.
2. You need strong Wi-Fi connectivity : No Wi-Fi? Don’t even bother thinking about a smart speaker then as they’re completely useless without them. So keep in mind that a good, secure and fast Wi-Fi connection is the first step in going smart.
3. It is overall an expensive proposition (so far) : If you’re looking to buy a smart speaker just for music, then it’s fine. However, if you really want to make optimum utilization of a smart speaker then be prepared to shell out some serious bucks as IoT-powered devices cost a lot. For example, a smart bulb from Phillips which works well both with Google Home and Amazon Alexa costs Rs 2,500. And this is just one bulb so you can gauge the cost of equipping the entire house with smart devices.
4. The ecosystem is still a work-in-progress : Fascinating as they might be, smart speakers are still not a completely developed product category. There aren’t enough products available in the market that will be compatible with smart speakers. Companies across the spectrum are still in the early stage of adoption, so waiting for a while might be a better option for some buyers.
5. You need apps to make it all work : For any smart device to run, you will in all probability need an app. At times, using apps can get a bit overbearing. Smart speakers don’t run without an app and neither do smart lights or other devices. So if you have an aversion to apps, then going smart might not be the best option.
6. There are privacy concerns : All companies with smart speakers assure you about data safety but we live in an era where your personal data is the most valuable currency for tech giants. One can’t be sure if Alexa or Google are snooping in without you knowing. Think twice before buying one as you will have to forego a lot of privacy while using a smart speaker.
7. Be prepared to share personal data : Do remember that every time you use a smart home device or a speaker you are giving away personal data. For instance, if you tell Google Home where your work place is then that’s information that is just ‘out there’. Of course, there’s a great convenience value attached to it but at what cost? The more information you share with a smart device, the smarter it becomes.

Google debuts a standalone to-do app, Google Tasks
Along with today’s big reveal of the redesigned version of Gmail, Google also more quietly introduced a new app that ties into its suite of productivity applications: Google Tasks. The app, as the name implies, offers you a dedicated place to create, view and edit your task list and to-do’s, including those created from within the new Gmail or from Google Calendar. While Gmail had before supported task creation, it was more buried in its user interface.
With the revamp, however, Tasks gets a bigger billing – it, along with Google Keep notes and Google Calendar – can be popped up right in Gmail’s sidebar with just a click. With the influx of new users coming from Gmail, it makes sense to create a dedicated Google Tasks app, as well. After all, to-do’s aren’t something you only access or think about while in your inbox. The app itself is a fairly standard take on to-do lists.
You can create and manage your task list in the app, and break down tasks into subtasks. The drag-and-drop interface lets you prioritize your tasks, and you can set a “due date” for reminders on those you don’t want to forget. The app keeps things simple by not allowing you to set a time to be reminded – just a the date. That’s not going to work for everyone, though – some people will want to configure things more precisely. On its own, none of what Google Tasks offers is that remarkable.
Instead, what makes the app worthwhile is its integration with the other Google services you use, like Gmail and Calendar. Being able to access the tasks you created elsewhere is useful, as is syncing your changes back to the inbox. Plus, you’re able to trace a task back to its source email in Gmail, and view them on your Google Calendar. The app is also now considered a part of Google’s G Suite, which means Google doesn’t consider this some sort of mobile “experiment” that it will later ditch, leaving you to find a different to-do list app yet again. The app is available as a free download on iOS and Android.

Google overhauls Gmail to lure businesses away from Microsoft
San Francisco: Alphabet Inc.’s Google unveiled on Wednesday its first Gmail redesign since 2013, capping what the company says was an expensive overhaul two years in the making to adopt security and offline functionality and better resemble Microsoft Outlook. It is Google’s most extensive update to software in its G Suite workplace bundle since accelerating efforts to steal business from Microsoft Corp.’s dominant Office workplace software suite. Previously, G Suite added instant-messaging and spreadsheet features.
With Gmail, Google said it restructured email storage databases, unified three duelling systems for syncing messages across devices and upgraded computers underpinning the service. That shift to Google’s self-developed Tensor processing chips enables smart-assistant features such as “suggested replies” to messages and “nudges” to respond to forgotten emails. “This is an entire rewrite of our flagship, most-used product,” said Jacob Bank, product manager lead for Gmail, which 1.4 billion people use each month.
Unreliable offline access to email has long discouraged would-be customers, while recent high-profile corporate data breaches have increased their desire to lock down email. Analysts estimate G Suite generated about $2 billion in revenue last year, 10 times behind Office. Google declined to specify costs associated with the redesign. But parent Alphabet reported Monday that first-quarter capital expenditures nearly tripled year-over-year to $7.3 billion.
Chief financial officer Ruth Porat told analysts that half of the spending resulted from hardware purchases to support expanding use of machine learning, which describes automated programs that can, among other things, identify spam and predict which emails users would find most important.

New Gmail is here: 14 new features you should know - Gmail Google Email
There's no denying that Gmail is one of the – if not the – most popular email services used by people around the world. After a long gap, Google’s mail service is getting a major overhaul which is now being rolled out to users. The search giant confirmed that the update is being released and will bring a host of new features to the service. The new features deal with security, confidentiality, better usability among other things. The rollout has begun today and will be phased over the next few months. The ‘regular’ Gmail users can try the new features under the Settings menu where an option of ‘Try new Gmail’ will be available. However, this too will be phased so if you don’t find it immediately do not panic. Here are 14 features that Gmail is getting for a better user experience:
1. Integrated rights management : Block recipients from forwarding, downloading or printing your mail : This is meant more for business users as it gives users an option to block the forwarding, copying, downloading or even printing of particular messages.
2. Confidential mode: Set expiry dates to your mails : As the name suggests, this gives users an option to set an expiration date to an email or they can completely revoke it. What Gmail does is in the confidential mode is that it doesn’t send the content of the mail. Rather, a link to the content is sent which on opening displays as a regular email in a Gmail client.
3. Two-factor authentication comes to mails : In the confidential mode, Gmail is also offering 2FA or two-factor authentication protection. A recipient of a mail in confidential mode will have to enter a SMS passcode to read the message.
4. Snooze feature: Schedule important mails : This will come in handy for those who often forget to reply to important mails. A new snooze feature will now allow users to schedule important mails to pin at the top of the inbox at a later stage.
5. Offline support: Access your mails even when you don't have internet data : Now Gmail will have an ‘offline’ version where users can work on in case there’s no connectivity. The messages will be synced and downloaded as soon as one is connected to the Internet.
6. Nudging feature: Get reminders for important mails you may have missed : What Nudges will do is that it will bring up emails older than two days to the top of the inbox. It’s not a random bump of old mails as Google is using machine learning to identify which mails are ‘important’. If an email has a direct question and hasn’t been replied to, that email will also be flagged up.
7. Access attachment option without opening the mail : Attachments with emails will now be visible in the inbox. There will be an icon below the message which people can access without opening the mail.
8. High-priority push notifications : A new feature called High Priority notifications is being introduced which will filter out the number of notifications. Notifications will mainly be sent for mails which are considered important or urgent. Google says that almost 97% per cent of push notifications will be reduced.
9. Assistive unsubscribe: One-click option to get rid of pesky mailing lists : Now a one-click option will be available to users from unsubscribing from pesky mailing lists. These messages aren’t really read by most users or fall in the Spam folder.
10. Smart reply feature comes to web : The Smart reply feature will be available on the Web client of Gmail. It’s already there on the mobile version and basically gives three short replies to email. The replies can be edited or immediately sent, depending on what a user wants to do.
11. New side panel : A new side panel will now be available on the right side of the screen and will list the most-used Google apps. It will include Calendar, Tasks among others. The idea behind this, according to Google, is that users don’t have to leave Gmail to access other apps.
12. New interface: Gets a 'less cluttered' look : The user interface will be more attractive and have a less cluttered look. This feature, however, will only be for the Web version of Gmail.
13. Google Tasks app for Android and iOS : A new Google Tasks app for G Suite users on Android and iOS is also being released. The app will allow G Suite users to keep their tasks up-to-date on their smartphones. The changes will show in the Google Tasks on the desktop as well.
14. Phishing warning gets better : While phishing warnings aren’t new but the new update of Gmail makes it better. Google will flag all potential phishing mails with banners which will be coloured – red, yellow or grey – depending on the risk factor.

New Gmail Is Now Rolling Out, Here's How to Get It Right Now
Alphabet's Google unveiled on Wednesday its first Gmail redesign since 2013, capping what the company says was an expensive overhaul two years in the making to adopt security and offline functionality and better resemble Microsoft Outlook. It is Google's most extensive update to software in its G Suite workplace bundle since accelerating efforts to steal business from Microsoft Corp's dominant Office workplace software suite. Previously, G Suite added instant-messaging and spreadsheet features. With Gmail, Google said it restructured email storage databases, unified three duelling systems for syncing messages across devices and upgraded computers underpinning the service.
That shift to Google's self-developed Tensor processing chips enables smart-assistant features such as "suggested replies" to messages and "nudges" to respond to forgotten emails. "This is an entire rewrite of our flagship, most-used product," said Jacob Bank, product manager lead for Gmail, which 1.4 billion people use each month. Unreliable offline access to email has long discouraged would-be customers, while recent high-profile corporate data breaches have increased their desire to lock down email.
Analysts estimate G Suite generated about $2 billion (roughly Rs. 13,300 crores) in revenue last year, 10 times behind Office. Google declined to specify costs associated with the redesign. But parent Alphabet reported Monday that first-quarter capital expenditures nearly tripled year-over-year to $7.3 billion (roughly Rs. 48,700 crores). Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat told analysts that half of the spending resulted from hardware purchases to support expanding use of machine learning, which describes automated programs that can, among other things, identify spam and predict which emails users would find most important.
Security and smarts Google's Bank said the overhaul was required primarily to provide offline access to up to 90 days of emails for users who turn on the feature. The changes also fulfil another top demand of business executives - message expiration. Users who enable a "confidential" option when sending an email can time-limit its access to recipients and also require they enter a one-time passcode sent to their phones to read it. The new setting does not override corporate email retention policies or present new obstacles to law enforcement. "Nudges" and a higher bar for new-mail notifications round out Google's revised sales pitch.
The company estimated that nudges will lead 8 percent of business users each week to remember to follow-up on something important. Cosmetic changes bring Gmail's website in line with Office by placing Google's calendar, tasks and note-taking services within the same page as emails. Bank said testers have advanced from "neutral to positive to very positive" on the new look.
How to get New Gmail right now You can start using these new updates in Gmail on the Web today, with some features appearing within the coming weeks. Go to Settings (the cog wheel in the top right corner of your inbox) and select Try the new Gmail. If you want to switch back later down the road, you can go to the same place and select Go back to classic Gmail.

Google Makes it Easier to Find Job Listings in India
Google on Tuesday launched a new experience for job seekers in India. The new experience, which is inspired by the Google for Jobs feature that debuted in the US last year, is aimed to make job searches easier for Internet users in the country. It is available in English on the Google app for Android and iOS as well as in Google Search on the desktop and mobile. Google has brought the latest development in partnership with job portals, including Aasaanjobs, Freshersworld, Headhonchos, IBM Talent Management Solutions, LinkedIn, Quezx, Shine.com, T-Jobs, TimesJobs, and WinsdomJobs.
The search giant is also working with various state governments in the country to bolster the experience for Indian job seekers. To begin with the new job searching experience, you need pass on queries such as "jobs near me" or "jobs for freshers" to Google Search or simply search for a particular position on Google. This will bring a special module that will let you explore, customise, and save relevant job postings. The module includes comprehensive information about the jobs available on the partner sites and lists open opportunities with job titles, location, and their nature such as full-time or part-time. Also, there is the time from when any particular listing is available online. Once the results are available, there are filters to help you pick only the most appropriate openings.
You can refine the results on the basis of job profile, title, location, date posted, or company type. Google also allows you to bookmark relevant listings and revisit them in the future. Likewise, there is a tab called 'Alerts' that sends you email notifications whenever new and relevant jobs become available. Unlike a tradition job portal, the new experience on Google is not letting job seekers apply directly for any particular position. It redirects to the job listing page available on the partners' site. Nevertheless, it makes it more convenient to search for a particular opening from one single page rather than going to different portals to find an appropriate opportunity. Google has also released an open documentation that will help any third-party job search platform make their native job listings discoverable on the new search experience. Open structured schema.org web markup standards have been available for web developers to expand the job-focused experience.
When it comes to why Google has preferred bringing the new job search experience, Vice President India and Southeast Asia Rajan Anandan highlighted that in the fourth quarter, job search queries on Google saw more than a 45 percent increase in the fourth quarter and mobile search queries around job postings are growing over 90 percent in a year. "We think we can help users look for and find relevant jobs in a very easy way through our experience," Anandan said at a press conference in New Delhi while announcing the new experience. Achint Srivastava of Google Search Engineering revealed that alongside bringing the partners on board, Google has been working with various state governments to bring the new job search experience. The software engineer also stated that a lot of India-specific work has been taking place behind the scenes to meet the requirements of Indian job seekers. One of the instances is the fresher job queries aren't something in the US, the engineer told the reporters.

Google Chrome Canary Build Shows Next-Gen Material Design Tweaks
While Google is expected to showcase a new Material Design version at its I/O developer conference later this year, the latest Canary build of Chrome browser gives a glimpse of what's cooking up behind the scenes. The new developer build brings rounded UI elements that can be observed from the revamped address bar and tabs. It has also been spotted that instead of the "Material Design 2" that was expected originally, Google is building a "Material Design Refresh" this year that is likely to come with some significant upliftments over the existing Material Design version. The latest Chrome Canary for Windows (version 68) has a new interface that includes rounded tabs.
These tabs look quite different from the ones that are presently available on the current public build of Chrome browser and have a sharp appearance. Also, some rounded treatment has been given to top buttons, including the back, forward, and refresh. There is additionally an upgraded address bar that is grey in colour, unlike the white-coloured address bar of the existing Chrome browser. In terms of minimal changes, the account avatar icon that you can see just next to the minimise button on the public Chrome version has been moved to the toolbar - next to the address bar - in the latest Canary version. Google has also added a floating effect that can be noticed in the Omnibar dropdown.
You need to switch to the 'Refresh' option by visiting flag "chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md" after installing the latest Chrome Canary version on your system to observe the changes. It is unclear by when Google will bring these tweaks to the public Chrome release. Meanwhile, folks at 9to5Google have spotted an updated Material Design document that includes references to a "Material Design Refresh". The document also highlights the new Toolbar iconography. Moreover, instances of the refreshed Material Design with rounded icons were previously visible through a recent redesigned Gmail leak.

Here's how Google 'knows' what you are searching for
Google Search is one of the biggest and most used products by the firm. The application is something that is used on a daily basis by millions of users. What powers it is a complex set of algorithms. These not only act when showing thousands of relative results in ‘0.03’ seconds but also power the platform’s autocomplete predictions, making the entire search experience better and quicker. The search giant recently in a blog post revealed how the search autocomplete prediction works and how it filters inappropriate results based on different parameters. Before detailing how autocomplete prediction works, Google Search advisor, Danny Sullivan made it clear that these autocomplete results are predictions, not suggestions.
This means that Google can, at the best, predict what users what and can’t be sure, giving them related suggestions. Sullivan says that Google determines predictions by looking “at the real searches that happen on Google and show common and trending ones relevant to the characters that are entered and also related to your location and previous searches.” Google’s prediction also changes as a user types in new characters in the search box. For instance, if a customer is typing ‘San F’, the complex algorithms will show ‘San Francisco’ related results.
However, typing ‘San Fe’ will scrap those thousands of results and bring the next popular or trending topic, determined by different parameters like your interest, location and more, in the prediction results. The tech giant also removes some predictions that fall against their autocomplete policies. These include sexually explicit predictions, hateful predictions, violent predictions, dangerous and harmful activity predictions.
In addition to this, Google also removes predictions that it thinks are spam, are closely related to piracy or in response to valid legal requests. Furthermore, Sullivan adds that the number of search autocomplete prediction results vary from device to device. On desktop users usually see up to 10 results while on mobile, users see around five results as the screen size is less. The search giant is also working to reduce the number of inappropriate autocomplete results.

Google plans to make Android Messages app an iMessage competitor, here’s how
Rich Communication Service or RCS is not a new term in the telecommunication industry. It is, in a way, an updated version of the SMS service that you use often. RCS can support multimedia, file sharing, group or single chats, location sharing, audio messaging and much more. Google is at the forefront of RCS and is now diverting more forces towards the particular platform.
As a result, it is halting the development of its Allo messaging app, reports The Verge. The report adds that Google is planning to implement RCS, or what they call as ‘Chat’ into their own stock Messaging app, something that will bring the app up against Apple’s iMessage. It is worth adding that Apple iMessage already has most of the features that RCS touts however, the platform is limited to Apple’s own ecosystem. Chat, however, is a carrier-based service and not something coming from Google directly.
Also mentioned is that Chat won’t be end-to-end encrypted, unlike Apple’s iMessage. Google is already in talks with several carriers around the globe for the implementation of RCS or Chat in their messaging system. And several handsets have Android Messages as their default texting app. Samsung is also said to support Chat services in its default messaging app. If you specifically want to use Google’s stock messaging app, it can be downloaded any time from the Play Store.
Unlike SMS, the new version will take up some amount of data, but everything depends on the telecom carriers. Furthermore, the report states that RCS developments will now be spearheaded by Anil Sabharwal, who earlier used to head Google Photos. The entire Allo team is said to have been shifted to the RCS project, states the report. Allo was launched two years ago and was one of the first apps based on Google Assistant.

Google Chrome 66 With Export Password Feature is Now Rolling Out
Google has rolled out updated Chrome 66 for all platforms including Mac, Windows, Linux and Android. The latest web browser comes with several design tweaks, user-facing features and policy changes. The new changes in the Chrome 66 version include blocking the autoplay content, export password feature with which a user can download the saved passwords in the chrome and other security features have been included in this update. Here are all the latest changes:
AutoPlay Content In January with Chrome 64 version, Google rolled out a feature that allowed users to mute audio on a site by site basis. The version 66 expands on this feature and this time around users will be able to automatically block autoplay content. This means Chrome 66 will automatically block all those popup ads with sounds and other animations. The feature allows you to customise when media may autoplay based on:
Content is muted or does not feature audio You have previously tapped or clicked on the site during the browsing session.
On mobile – whether you have has added the site to a home screen.
On the desktop – if you have frequently played media on the site.
The autoplay content, however, still plays but without the sound according to Techpp. The functionality is also not consistent across all websites, as the Chrome was unsuccessful to stop autoplay ads on YouTube and other sites.
Password Export The Chrome 66 also brings in a new ‘Export Password’ feature. In “Manage Passwords” option, there is a new overflow icon just below the list of stored passcodes that reveals the “Export Passwords” option. You can directly go to Settings > Advanced > Passwords and forms > Manage passwords > Saved Passwords menu. A prompt then appears asking users to confirm the download with their PC and also asks for them to enter their system credentials to proceed as the saved .csv file is in clear text.
Security Features As for security feature, the Chrome 66 removes trust for Symantec certificates issued before 1 June 2016 following the company’s failure to follow industry security standards. Announced last September, now warnings will appear when visiting sites that have not transitioned to the new DigiCert Certificate Authority.??Furthermore, this version contains another mitigation technique for the Spectre CPU vulnerability. Google announced that it would conduct a small percentage trial with Chrome 66 for a feature dubbed “Site Isolation”. By enabling Site Isolation, pages from different websites run in different processes with each process blocked from receiving certain types of sensitive data from other sites.
