Here we are, in mid-July, with our sanity melting, our norms crumbling, and the Larsen Ice Shelf breaking up and heading straight toward us. But cheer up: winter, in “Game of Thrones” form, is here! I don’t know what you have been doing in the off-season, but I’ve been anxiously favoriting trenchant political tweets and escaping to a realm beyond the Seven Kingdoms called “Grantchester,” where a lusty, crime-solving vicar takes my troubles away. Meanwhile, “G.o.T.,” like the Holy Spirit or democracy’s decline, has been all around us.

At a wedding I attended recently, text celebrating the marriage of Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo was read alongside a poem by W. H. Auden. (It was a delightful ceremony, in contrast to Dany and Drogo’s actual wedding, which was more focussed on swordplay-to-the-death and plein-air copulation.) At Madison Square Garden in March, Ramin Djawadi conducted the “Game of Thrones” Live Concert Experience, where green fire blasted around the stage, we listened to “The Rains of Castamere” and watched scenes of the Red Wedding and people yelled “Shame!” in a spirit of euphoria. It was fun—like a disturbing, very elaborate “previously on” montage. And this week, White Walkers roamed around London—adding fun, for once in their lives, not subtracting it.
Starting with the most basic of predictions: Sam Tarly will discover the key to defeating the White Walkers. Game of Thrones have built up Sam finally entering the Oldtown library — no doubt there will be some major payoff, and there’s little doubt over it being the key to ending the long Winter.
Now, on Sunday night, we’re back to the real thing. Bring on the imploding Lannisters, the avenging Starks, the scheming Littlefinger, the randy Tormund Giantsbane, and the no-nonsense tween Lyanna Mormont, who’d rule that realm, and likely the United States, as well as anybody. As last season began, we were in a desperate and vulnerable place: Jon Snow was dead, but Jon Snow couldn’t be dead, and so on. Now that’s sorted out and we have other issues to deal with. (For one thing, Ed Sheeran is going to show up at some point—I’d love to see him fight Brienne of Tarth, but I suppose that’s too much to ask.)

As Season 7—the second-to-last of two final, shortened seasons—begins, the young Starks, uncharacteristically, are in decent shape. They took Winterfell back from the Boltons, and Ramsey, a villain we’d been sick of for what felt like decades, got eaten by dogs. Arya, no longer blind (ugh!), began avenging the many wrongs visited on her family, by feeding Walder Frey a toe-filled pie. (For a Stark kid, that’s a moral victory.) Now they’ve got to sort out the Lannister situation, and then some. Cersei, post-fireball, sits on the Iron Throne. At the end of last season, the Dany contingent—Tyrion, Varys, the Unsullied, Dothraki soldiers, the whole ragtag lot—dramatically set sail for Westeros, having found a way to get a horse-riding army onto boats, and the Greyjoys set sail, too. Fight! Fight! Fight! (Sorry, it’s been a provocative off-season.) And, as ever, the White Walkers, perhaps made more interesting by their day in London, continue to groan and ice around.

The Season 7 trailer begins with Littlefinger dispensing wisdom in a voice-over as Sansa, increasingly formidable, walks through snow, in a luscious fur cloak and no hat. “Don’t fight in the north,” Littlefinger says, breathily. “Or the south. Fight every battle. Everywhere. Always. In your mind.” That sounds like something you’d hear from Steve Bannon, but in the Seven Kingdoms it’s just good sense. In another voice-over, Jon Snow, the new King of the North, talks of banding together to fight a common enemy—he’s a realist, out for survival, sane and reasonable. Such people don’t always get listened to, here or in Westeros, but I’m cautiously optimistic. His role is clearly of mystical importance. His true parentage, one of the central mysteries of the show, was finally confirmed last season after fervent speculation. He’s not the bastard son of Ned Stark, as Ned had claimed; he’s the son of Ned’s sister, Lyanna Stark, and Rhaegar Targaryen, Dany’s brother. Does this mean Jon Snow can near-singlehandedly defeat an army of ice sleazebags and save the world? Don’t ask me. But I’m rooting for him.
We’re can almost guarantee these two will finally meet up. The question is, will they become more than just friends? As viewers know, Daenerys is Jon's aunt (remember R+L=J?), but they don’t know that. Put two attractive, powerful people in a room together and who knows what will happen.
Lannisterwise, the narrative stasis in King’s Landing has ended, and, relatedly, so has the oily-rags-and-pablum tyranny of the High Sparrow. Cersei , having long tried to exert regal influence via her children, is now just doing it herself, for chrissakes. Jaime seems to find her behavior since he left town disturbing, and I get it—she burned everybody up, and unwittingly inspired their young son King Tommen to commit suicide, and pensively clutched so many wine goblets that she may need an intervention. The Season 7 trailer shows her clutching yet more goblets. (Good for her, I say—she has been through it!) Beyond that, she’s about to be besieged by dragons, which are now the size of 747s, the director Matt Shakman has said, and Drogon’s fire breath has a thirty-foot diameter. Cersei would do well to give pay raises to the members of the King’s Landing Fire Department.

I’d love for Littlefinger to somehow become less creepy, because I’m warily fond of him, but that’s not going to happen: creepy is Littlefinger’s bread and butter. He’ll keep trying to manipulate and woo Sansa, and Sansa will keep trying to counter-manipulate him—she likes his army, and so do we. I’m into it, as long as it doesn’t gross me out. For the other Stark siblings, happier days are here again. The trailer shows us Arya on horseback, with further vengeance in her heart, and Bran in a nice new wheelchair, sussing things out across space and time. Perhaps he’ll somehow impart wisdom to Jon about the Children of the Forest, who created the White Walkers? Look, I barely know what that means—we’re getting beyond the Wall of my abilities to understand.

In a similar realm, to me, is Euron Greyjoy, Yara and Theon’s uncle, a latecomer no-goodnik who last season I was a bit too plot-exhausted to care about. But I like the new blood in the Greyjoy story line, between Yara’s increasing power, Theon’s slow return to sanity, boats galore, the murder of their tiresome father, and the welcome advent of lesbianism. I was pleased to learn that in Season 7, as E.W. tells us, Euron has been given a sexy, yet-to-be-revealed makeover, as well as a better, more fun personality. He’s a “hooligan,” not a monster—he is, as the show’s co-executive producer Bryan Cogman put it, “the kind of guy who will kill you *and *steal your girlfriend.” (See? Fun!) The trailer indicates that he also has a good-looking fleet of ships. All of this should definitely help me remember who he is. He, too, wants the Iron Throne, and perhaps he and his enhanced memorability will come into contact with Cersei, her power, and her theoretical status of single and ready to mingle.
The bookies predict Petyr Baelish will be the first to die. Chances are, they’re wrong. There will no doubt be a few more deaths before the manipulator dies, and he will likely die. With Arya on the war path, chances are she will be the one to finish him. Before Littlefinger goes, though, expect him to use Sansa to take the North, likely turning her against Jon Snow.
This is all well and good—your dragons, your ramparts, your warging and fleets—but I’m eager to spend more time with Samwell Tarly in that gorgeous library at the Citadel, which looks awfully relaxing. I’m hoping that he figures something important out there, in the peace and quiet, and I’m hoping for lingering shots of leatherbound wisdom reaching up to the wise, peaceful sky. Maybe he’ll figure out a way to get Jon Snow out of this White Walker mess. Sam isn’t in the preview trailer, but Season 7 photographs show him hunched over a book, quill in hand, reading and writing his little heart out. People have speculated that Sam is the narrator of all this hullabaloo, the person telling us the story of the Game of Thrones, and they’ve been further encouraged by the chandelier at the Citadel Library that resembles the armillary sphere in the opening credits. Put a white beard, glasses, and a little hat on him, and it all makes a lot of sense.

Kingdom Hearts 3 gets a new trailer and its first Pixar-based worldDisney held their annual D23 Expo where they unveil new movies, individual properties and even some KINGDOM HEARTS III screens and footage. This time around, Sora, Donald and Goofy find themselves expanding beyond classic Disney films and reaching into Pixar. Not just any old Pixar film, but the first of its kind, Toy Story.
Kingdom Hearts 3, the long awaited third major installment in the epic Final Fantasy and Disney crossover RPG series, finally has a release date, although it remains somewhat ambiguous for now. At the conclusion of a new Toy Story-themed trailer of the game shown off at Disney’s D23 expo today, developer Square Enix revealed that the game would indeed be coming out in 2018. Even better news: from the footage shown off of Sora and pals Donald and Goofy teaming up with Woody and Buzz Lightyear, the game looks fantastic, with an even deeper and zanier battle system and ultra-polished visuals.
Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story debuted back in 1995 and made a huge impact as the company’s first feature-length CGI film. Being a box office success, characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear have become the face of the franchise. Seeing that the Kingdom Hearts series is essentially a cross breed of Final Fantasy and Disney characters, it only makes sense to have Sora and the gang meet the toys. Check out the trailer below.

Disney and Square Enix debuted new Kingdom Hearts 3 details at this year’s D23 conference. That includes a new trailer, above, as well as a brand new world featured in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game.

The presentation kicked off with Kingdom Hearts 3’s E3 2017 trailer, which gave us our first fresh look at the game in some time when Square Enix premiered it in June. Director Tetsuya Nomura then arrived to help introduce the new content during Disney’s gaming-focused panel, streamed live this afternoon.
The news should overjoy Kingdom Hearts fans would’ve waited nearly 13 years for a sequel to the second major game in the series. It should also assuage the fears of those dreading the worst: that the game would simply never make it out of development hell, or in a worst case scenario get canned for good. But Square Enix — which wrapped up long and tortuous development cycle for Final Fantasy XV, its other highly anticipated RPG — appears better equipped to get its most anticipated titles out the door at last.
A trailer showed our hero, Sora, taking on various Heartless in an action-packed montage. But the action soon faded out to a much slower-paced scene: Sora, Donald and Goofy arriving in the world of Toy Story. Buzz Lightyear and Woody helped explain the Heartless problem plaguing Andy’s bedroom, joined by other toys like Hamm the piggy bank and Rex the dinosaur. They later ventured just outside of the home to take on toy-sized Heartless — and even visited a toy store, where Sora got to jump into a mech action figure for a different kind of combat.

We even get a brief appearance from Organization XIII, the primary antagonists of the game. The whole scenario will feature an original story set in the Toy Story universe, as members of the team from Pixar explained during the panel. Even John Lasseter, head of the animation studio, got involved with the film’s Kingdom Hearts debut.

This marks Pixar’s introduction into the Disney-crossover series. Disney officially purchased Pixar in 2006, just after the release of our last mainline Kingdom Hearts game. Whether Toy Story will be joined by other Pixar classics remains unannounced, but Pixar’s first feature film is an excellent choice for the Kingdom Hearts franchise as it is.

Other new worlds in Kingdom Hearts 3 include those inspired by Big Hero 6 and Tangled, two much more recent Disney animated features. Square Enix announced the Big Hero 6world two years ago, during 2015’s D23 event.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will launch in 2018.

The First Footage From Avengers: Infinity War Blows Away Even Your Wildest ExpectationsMarvel Studios just showed a huge chunk of footage from Avengers: Infinity War at the D23 Expo and there almost aren’t words for it. But we’re going to try.

The footage began with probably a two-minute intro of footage from the first several movies, all focusing on the Infinity Stones we’ve seen so far. Then, the Marvel Studios logo, and on to the new stuff.
With Avengers: Infinity War, all that has come before will implode into two huge blockbusters (including the as-yet-untitled fourth Avengers).
At Disney’s fan convention over the weekend, D23, some footage from the upcoming Russo-brother directed film was shown, descriptions of which have reached the Internet (still no footage).
According to io9, Marvel started by playing a quick recap of where all the Infinity Stones have come from, featuring footage from previously released films.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are flying around. “Put on your mean faces,” Star-Lord says, because he expects something nasty. There has been crazy destruction, and then a body smashes up against their ship. “Get it away,” Rocket says. They bring the body in and it’s Thor. (Spoilers for Ragnarok, we guess?) Mantis wakes him up and Thor jumps up and exclaims “Who the hell are you guys?”

Next we see the Guardians with Thor, flying to another planet, and when they arrive—again, it’s just massive destruction again. They all know something is very wrong.

Cut to Earth. Scarlet Witch is moving around some cars or something and a female voiceover says “Death follows him like a shadow.” Loki emerges and presents the Tesseract to someone who is taller than him.

Cut to Queens and the hairs on the arm of a young Peter Parker stand up on end. He turns around in fear and we see a ship flying toward a planet we assume is Earth. “We have one advantage,” Tony Stark says. “He’s coming to us.” As the ship crashes, we see Mantis, Iron Man, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, and a few others characters in total shock.

“Fun really isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe,” a voice says. Gamora turns around in total horror. “But this puts a smile on my face.” Star-Lord: “Oh no.” And out of a black hole emerges the purple madman, Thanos.
Marvel's Kevin Feige brought out a giant stable of talent to introduce the trailer: Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Don Cheadle, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie and co-director Joe Russo.
The trailer — screened exclusively for attendees and was not released online — begins with the Guardians of the Galaxy on their ship, floating through a creepy section of space. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) tells his crew to put on their "mean faces" because things could get dangerous. Suddenly, a body hits their spaceship. It's an unconscious Thor (Hemsworth), wearing his gladiator garb from Thor: Ragnarok (smart money is on the end of November's Ragnarok leading directly into 2018's Infinity War). They bring him inside the ship, and Mantis (Klementieff) wakes him up.
A fight begins. Doctor Strange is putting down platforms and Star-Lord is jumping off them, shooting his guns. Cut to Spider-Man, in his new suit revealed at the end of Homecoming, jumping through the air. A shot of Vision behind bars. A shot of a Wakandan army which includes Bucky. Captain America comes out of shadows with a full beard. Black Widow is shown with blonde hair. Iron Man has new, very sleek armor. Someone is using the Hulkbuster armor. Just a huge montage of shots.

Peter Parker is on the ground very hurt. “I’m sorry Tony,” he says behind tears with Iron Man holding his head. Thanos grabs Thor’s head and squeezes. Then Thanos, in the heat of battle with the Infinity Gauntlet on his hand, uses the power of the two stones he has (Purple and Blue, I think) to grab a moon. He starts to drag it toward whatever planet everyone is standing on. The debris starts to fly and... cut to title card.

Avengers: Infinity War opens May 4, 2018.

'A Wrinkle in Time': Ava DuVernay Unveils Magical First Trailer at D23Kicking off the festivities for the live-action presentation this past Saturday at Disney's D23 event was director Ava DuVernay, who is in the midst of editing her huge adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's 1963 children's tale A Wrinkle In Time. She brought some of her cast (including Oprah Winfrey, who conducted an Oprah-style hand out of posters for the audience) and also showed the first teaser trailer for the movie. Find that below, and an image of the poster lower down in the story...
The ambitious project is an adaptation of the 1963 children’s classic by Madeleine L'Engle. The film stars Storm Reid as Meg Murry, a young girl whose scientist father (played by Chris Pine) has been missing after disappearing years earlier. The sprawling cast also includes Oprah Winfrey (Mrs. Which), Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit), Zach Galifianakis (The Happy Medium) and Mindy Kaling (Mrs. Who).
DuVernay, Reid, Pine, Winfrey and Witherspoon came out to big applause.
They showed off the film's first trailer, which begins with Pine's character in voiceover.
"What if we are here for a reason? What if we are part of something truly divine? Imagine, 91 billion light-years traveled like that," says Pine, before he is shown trapped in a strange room.
The trailer, set to a cover of "Sweet Dreams," features ambitious set pieces and ambitious designs.

From the looks of the trailer, DuVernay has pulled off a massive, magical and complex tale, launching the characters into a weird world and a wider universe. Speaking exclusive to Empire after leaving the stage, DuVernay explained how she approached the adaptation. "It's a re-interpretation of the book, which was a banned book. Madeleine L'Engle's imagination was such that they said, 'ugh... too much, too radical.' So we really just stepped into that and said, we're going to reach into our own imaginations as well and try to move it into a new century. And Disney let us do it. It's different, but hopefully makes you feel the same."
And how was her learning curve, diving into such a complicated, effects-heavy movie? "It was fantastic. There are so many resources and so many talented people that I could say an idea and there was someone that could make it happen! I want to do it again!"
Winfrey also feels that despite the book being best known in the States, it will connect with audiences around the globe. "I think you're going to get wonderful, worldwide reactions, that's what we're hoping for," she told Empire. "Because Ava's re-envisioning of the story allows it to be expanded it to a world of people who might not have read the book, or might not have related to the characters. The level of diversity represented feels inclusive and feels like we are reflecting what the world looks like."
"I saw myself in it, and I saw so many different kinds of people in it," said DuVernay. "A family story wrapped in an epic adventure where you see worlds you've never seen before."
She said of the film's diverse cast that she wanted to assemble a group of people "that looked like you, that looked like the real world."eid, the young star of the film, admitted she was nervous to be at D23 and charmed the audience by referring to her director and co-star by Ms. and Mr., respectively.
"Ms. Ava, of course, is so patient and so hands-on. She made me really feel like Meg. She let me put my creative position in it," said Reid.
"Me and Mr. Chris, we had some intense scenes," she said.
Speaking of Pine, he got applause after being congratulated on the success of Wonder Woman. He admitted he wasn't too familiar with A Wrinkle in Time before being cast in the film, but he was sold after meeting the director at her home.
Witherspoon said she was a huge fan of the book growing up.
"I just thought it was so magical that Ava chose to put her beautiful direction toward this material," said Witherspoon. "She sees the whole world and the beauty of the world."
"When Ava told me it is a character who is one of the wisest women in the universe," Winfrey started, to big laughs, "who wouldn't say yes to that?"
They showed off a new poster for the film, and Winfrey got huge applause by parodying her famous car-giveaway line, yelling, "Everybody gets a poster! And you get a poster! And you get a poster!"
A Wrinkle in Time features a script written by Frozen's Jennifer Lee.
Young actress Storm Reid stars as Meg Murry, with an all-star cast of adult actors backing her up, including the cosmic trio of Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit, and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who. Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Chris Pine play Meg’s parents, Dr. Kate Murry and the mysteriously-missing Dr. Alex Murry. Newcomer Deric McCabe plays Meg’s gifted little brother, Charles Wallace.

We’re so excited for this movie, we’re gonna overlook the fact that the trailer contains yet another use of an edgy remake of a familiar pop song as its background music. A Wrinkle in Time will be out March 9, 2018.

Naomi Scott has officially been cast as Princess Jasmine, while Will Smith will be taking on the Genie. Relative newcomer Mena Massoud has also joined the cast as Aladdin.

Naomi Grace Scott (born 6 May 1993) is an English actress and singer. She is known for starring as Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger, in the 2017 Power Rangers movie and co-starring as Maddy Shannon in the science-fiction drama series Terra Nova. Scott also starred as Mohini "Mo" Banjaree in the Disney Channel original movie Lemonade Mouth, and as Megan in TV series Life Bites. She will play Princess Jasmine in the live-action remake of Aladdin.

1. She's Not From Agrabah: And that's because that fictional country is not a real place, however, the actress is from London. Her mother Usha Scott (née Joshi) is from Uganda and is of Gujarati Indian descent. Meanwhile, Naomi's father, Christopher Scott, is British.

2. She's Married: Naomi has been married to soccer star Jordan Spence, who plays for Ipswich Town Football Club, since 2014. The pair dated for four years before getting married.

Earlier today at the D23 Expo, the House of Mouse revealed the actress who will play the princess who fell in love with the pauper in Guy Ritchie's live-action reboot of Aladdin and her name is Naomi Scott.
While most may not know her name, you may know her as the Pink Ranger from the new Power Rangers movie, which came out earlier this year.

“Aladdin” was the highest-grossing film of the year in 1992, and won Academy Awards for best score and best song for “A Whole New World.”

The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being from the planet Gallifrey. He explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes, while working to save civilisations and help people in need.

The identity of Doctor Who's 13th Time Lord will be revealed following the Wimbledon men's singles tennis final on Sunday, the BBC has announced.
A trailer featuring the number 13 in different locations was aired during the tennis on BBC One on Friday.
It finished with the caption: "Meet the 13th Doctor after the Wimbledon men's final, Sunday 16th July."
The actor will succeed Peter Capaldi who took the role in 2013 and will leave in the 2017 Christmas special.
Capaldi made the announcement during an interview with BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley in January.
The Glasgow-born star said: "I feel it's time to move on. I feel sad, I love Doctor Who, it is a fantastic programme to work on."

The channel confirmed it was to reveal the identity of the new Time Lord after the Wimbledon men’s single final tomorrow afternoon (16 July), sending fans into overdrive guessing who that person could be.
Ever since Capaldi announced in January he was to step down from the role, many names have been bandied around with reports suggesting producers were looking to cast the first ever female incarnation of the classic character.
Below we take a look at the latest odds predicting who will be inducted into the BBC history books (courtesy of Ladbrokes).

The actor set to replace Peter Capaldi in the lead role of Doctor Who will be announced by the BBC tomorrow (16 July).
Viewers will learn the new actor's identity after the Wimbledon men's singles final that will see Roger Federer take on Marin Cilic from 2pm.
Many names have been flying around regarding who the next Time Lord could be following Capaldi's announcement he was to step down following this year's Christman special.
The frontrunners include Kris Marshall, whose odds were slashed after his departure from BBC series Death in Paradise, Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker Oscar-winning star Tilda Swinton.
Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) have also been touted as potentially becoming the first female Doctor despite the latter's agency stating otherwise.

Ability to regenerate
The locations in the trailer included 10 Downing Street, Beachy Head cliffs and the Statue of Liberty.
The popular sci-fi series features a Time Lord, known only as The Doctor, who travels through time and space in the Tardis, which resembles a 1960s police telephone box.

The main character has the ability to regenerate, a quirk that has allowed a number of actors to have played the role over the years.

Capaldi, who replaced Matt Smith as The Doctor, was previously best known for his role as foul-mouthed spin-doctor Malcolm Tucker in the BBC series The Thick of It.
