BSNL Revives ‘Bumper Offer’ Till January End

Reportedly, BSNL had earlier rolled out the ‘Monsoon Offer’ which was essentially the same offer as the current one. As per the telco’s announcement, the offer was to be valid until September 14. However, the telco had resumed the benefits of the offer and extended the date to November 14, 2018. Following this move, and seeing more response from its subscribers, BSNL had yet again decided to extend the validity of this ‘Bumper Offer’ thus pleasing its subscribers once again. This time, BSNL had announced that the validity extension has been put off till January 31, 2019, meaning that BSNL users will be able to reap benefits of this offer until the end of January next year.

BSNL also clarified that the 2.1GB data being offered under this plan wouldn’t only be the replacement to their existing data plan but instead, it would provide additional 2.1GB of data besides their usual data benefit. So if a subscriber has subscribed to a plan with 1GB daily data benefit, then owing to this offer, the user will be able to get 3.1GB of data per day.

Two Long-Term STVs to Now Pair with Bumper Offer

When BSNL had first rolled out the Bumper Offer in September, the offer was valid with subscriptions of Rs 186, Rs 429, Rs 485, Rs 666 and Rs 999 plans. As noted, BSNL is now providing the Bumper Offer benefits on STV 1699 and STV 2099. Both of these recharges by BSNL come with a long validity of 365 days and the STV-1699 ships 2GB data per day while the STV 2099 offers double the benefit with 4GB of data per day. Combined with the Bumper Offer from BSNL, both of these STVs will be shipping 4.21GB per day and 6.21GB per day respectively. With the launch of JioPhone, Reliance Jio revived the feature phone market. The demand for feature phones has witnessed a massive increase in recent times. Now, various news reports claimed that the tech giant Google has launched a feature phone named Wiz Phone WP006. The phone is said to be the first 4G-feature phone in Indonesia.

The phone is being termed as JioPhone killer, when and if, it gets launched in India. The phone runs the KaiOS operating system, same as the JioPhone.

The news has taken internet by storm. It will be a huge step if the Mountain View giant steps-in in the feature phone market. However, you will be surprised to know that Google has not really launched the phone. If Google has not launched this phone, then what is the connection between the phone and the tech giant?

Before knowing this, you must know these developments which have occurred in the last one year.

Google has invested around $22 million in KaiOS, the feature phone operating system, in June this year. The move had left many people wondering why the tech giant invested in a feature phone OS.

Coming back to the news. Google has 'introduced' the Wiz Phone WP006 during its 'Google for Indonesia' event on December 4 in Jakarta. You may wonder if Google has not launched it, then why did it introduce the phone?

There are two reasons behind this. First, the phone claimed to be the first 4G feature phone in Indonesia, which runs on the KaiOS operating system that Google has invested a huge amount in. And second, Google has introduced a phone feature. The feature is Google Assistant. Yes, the Wiz Phone WP006 supports Google Assistant, much like the JioPhone.

Or you can understand it like this. Had Google introduced Google Assistant feature on JioPhone, would you have called it a feature phone by Google? No. However, this has happened in the case of the WizPhone.

The phone has been manufactured by WizPhone that has partnered with KaiOS. The phone is 4G enabled and has a 2.4-inch screen, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8905 chipset and is powered by 1800 mAh battery. The phone has been priced at $7.

However, the phone doesn't support WhatsApp as yet. KaiOS replied to a Twitter user that the company is working towards WhatsApp integration.

"Hey! We are aware of the importance of WhatsApp and are working on adding more apps and features in the near future. Stay tuned!," it said.

Asus Zenfone Max M2: Confirmed Features and Specifications

While Asus confirmed that the Max M2 would be unveiled on December 11 in India, the smartphone has already been made available in Russia, alongside the Max Pro M2. The Asus Zenfone Max M2 will sports a 6.3-inch HD+ display, which is a step up from the 5.45-inch panel we saw on the Max M1, but the resolution is similar. At the heart of the phone, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC, clubbed with 3GB, 4GB of RAM and 32GB, 64GB of internal storage. The Max M2 will run stock Android out of the box, like the Max Pro M2.

Asus Zenfone Max M2 vs Max M1: What’s Different?

As mentioned, Max M2 is already official in Russia and is listed on the company’s official website. Asus might make some changes to the specs, but the core hardware could remain the same for the Indian market. So the Max M2 will a major upgrade to the Max M1 which was released just a couple of months ago. The Zenfone Max M1 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ display, Snapdragon 430 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, dedicated microSD card slot, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera, Zen UI on top of Android 8.0 Oreo and a 4000mAh battery.

While it’s a major upgrade over its predecessor, there will be a price bump as well. We’re expecting the phone to retail at a starting price of Rs 10,999 or even Rs 9,999 is a possible price.

Reliance Jio did not revise its tariff plans for nearly 11 months now, but the telco is still providing the best prepaid tariffs in the industry. Telcos such as BSNL, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea came close to Jio in the benefits aspect, but never outsmarted Jio.

Vodafone India revised its postpaid offerings to stay ahead of Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. Following Vodafone, Airtel also revised its postpaid plans which are almost in-line with what Vodafone is providing.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has the habit of revising broadband plans for every three or six months. Following the same trend, the largest wired broadband service provider in the country has now revised its broadband plans across the country including Kerala circle.

Whenever we plan to travel abroad, perhaps one of the first questions that comes to our mind is: “How am I going to stay connected when I’m there?” And that’s not surprising at all. While it’s true that hotels and other places generally have free Wi-Fi in most countries around the world, you still need to be able to make (and take) calls.

Now, you can always get a local SIM (available at most international airports) whenever you land, but it’s always better to plan beforehand. So, the easiest option is to get an international roaming pack activated on your number. That way, you can continue to stay connected through your permanent number, even when you’re abroad.

Telecom operators in India offer quite a few international roaming packs, and these vary based on factors like duration of validity, and calling/data benefits. But which of them offers the best value for your money? To find out, read our comparison between the prepaid international roaming plans offered by three of India’s biggest private-sector telcos – Reliance Jio, Vodafone, and Airtel.

In case you just need connectivity for a day, you can go for the Rs 695 plan. That will give you unlimited incoming calls, 120 outgoing minutes (local and to India), free outgoing SMS, and 1GB of data.

If you have a week-long vacation planned, you can get the Rs 3,495 plan with a validity of 7 days. If offers the same benefits as the 1-day pack, but data allowance is at a generous 7GB. Lastly, there’s the big plan with a validity of 28 days. Priced at Rs 6,995, it offers unlimited incoming calls, 120 free minutes daily for outgoing calls (local and to India), free outgoing SMS, and 15GB of mobile data.

Vodafone’s ‘iRoamFree’ packs are available in over 60 countries, including the United States, Germany, Finland, Sweden, France, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Thailand, and the UK.

Airtel

In case you’re an Airtel prepaid subscriber, a 1-day international roaming plan will cost you Rs 649. In that price, you’ll get unlimited incoming calls, 100 free outgoing minutes (to India), 500MB of free data, and 100 text messages. Then there’s the Rs 2,999 pack, which comes with a validity of seven days and offers unlimited incoming calls, 3GB of data, 250 outgoing minutes (to India), and 100 text messages.

For a month-long holiday, go for the Rs 3,999 pack, which has a validity of 30 days. You get unlimited incoming calls, 5GB data, 500 outgoing minutes (to India), and 100 SMS.

Airtel’s international roaming packs cover majority of popular international destinations, such the United States, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, France, and Belgium.

Bharti Airtel, the former market leader, has shown interest in forging a partnership with Vodafone Idea in a joint venture for owning fibre network to focus on expansion. As per an ET Telecom report, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, both competitors are ready to bow down for forging a joint venture entity which would own the fibre network and would help drive bolstering growth and better influx for both the companies.

Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel Trying to Raise Funds

The business daily reported a top Airtel official saying, “We will be delighted to share and create one company. We have already built a lot of fibre with Vodafone Idea, and over the past two years, a lot of sharing has happened between the two companies.”

Notably, Indus Towers, the biggest tower company of India is jointly owned by Airtel and Vodafone Idea. Now due to the intense tariff war and the financially draining situations of the industry, both the companies have been resorting to different ways to raise funds to meet their capex and operational requirements. While Bharti Airtel has been selling its stake in the tower unit Bharti Infratel and making private placements of shares of its Africa business, Reliance Jio has set aside all of its fibre assets onto another separate entity and has plans to monetise it.

Airtel Plotting to Regain Top Position

Sunil Bharti Mittal led telco, Airtel, plans to regain its previous rank of top Revenue Market Share (RMS) holder by the end of the current fiscal year. Currently, Vodafone Idea has claimed the top spot with 32.8% RMS, with Bharti Airtel lagging behind at 30.9%. Reliance Jio, on the other hand, has 26.1% RMS as reported by ICICI Securities through the data collected by the industry watchdog, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).

Going by the analysts’ opinions, now the telcos will be able to hike the prices as the industry is headed towards stability owing to the consolidation. Also, since all the three telcos now own almost one-third RMS, the focus will soon be on increasing revenue by increasing prices. Another report by ET Telecom had denoted that Airtel is ready to shed off 60-70 million low-end subscribers in a bid to boost its ARPU.

This fact is definitely reinforced when we get to see the current trend in the telecom industry with operators introducing minimum recharge packs to weed out low paying customers and to increase their ARPU.

Here's is a good news for Reliance Jio users who love music. Saavn Media Private Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (“RIL”), has launched JioSaavn, South Asia’s largest streaming, entertainment and artist platform. The new integrated JioSaavn app will be available across all App Stores including the Jio app store, on JioPhone, as well as, at www.jio.com/jiosaavn.

JioSaavn combines the streaming media expertise of Saavn with Jio’s digital services ecosystem. Jio has over 252 million subscribers.

With the integrated JioSaavn app, users can now expect a suite of new in-app products and music experiences, including an interactive lyrics feature, localized vernacular display, custom integrations with concerts and live events, as well as exclusive video content to roll out over the next few months.

The service will be offered on a "freemium" model in India with all users having access to the ad-supported product. Jio subscribers would enjoy seamless access to the integrated app.

Jio users will also get a 90-day extended free trial of JioSaavn Pro, the streaming service’s premium product.

Akash Ambani, Director, Reliance Jio, said, “JioSaavn represents a turning point for the music streaming industry in India, as the country continues to experience accelerated tech innovation, rapid adoption of digital services, and a digital music industry at par with global leaders. Powered by Jio’s advanced digital services infrastructure and complemented by its widespread user base, JioSaavn will be the largest streaming platform in India.”

The company said that JioSaavn will continue to build on Saavn’s groundbreaking Original Programming and artist development platform, Artist Originals (AO). Saavn’s Original Programming, which has redefined the development, marketing and distribution of original audio entertainment, produces and exclusively distributes some of India’s most popular audio podcasts, like ‘#NoFilterNeha‘, ‘Thank You For Sharing’, ‘Take 2 with Anupama and Rajeev’, ‘Talking Music’ and ‘Kahaani Express with Neelesh Misra’.

Saavn co-founders – Rishi Malhotra, Paramdeep Singh and Vinodh Bhat – continue in their leadership roles to drive the growth of the company. JioSaavn has a team of more than 200 employees who operate out of its five global offices at Mountain View and New York in the United States and Bengaluru, Gurugram, and Mumbai in India.

Rishi Malhotra, Co-Founder and CEO, JioSaavn, stated, “Since announcing our merger in March 2018, the Jio and Saavn teams have been working to integrate and reimagine a combined platform in JioSaavn. Today, we have one of the most personalized and capable media platforms in the world, an unmatched content catalog, regionalized editorial and original programming and music that’s redefining how artists and creators connect directly with audiences worldwide.”

In March this year, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) had acquired a majority stake in JioSaavn, whose investors include Tiger Global Management, Liberty Media, Bertelsmann, Steadview Capital, Ward Ferry Management, Senvest Management, Tree Line Investment Management, Quilvest, Mousse Partners, Wellington Capital Management, William Morris Endeavor and a number of strategic individuals, including former Vodafone CEO, Arun Sarin, and, Guy Oseary, Chairman of Maverick and manager of global artists including Madonna and U2.

Jio’s expansion and popularity in India is unstoppable, as, in the month of September, they were the only telecom firm to add new users. Both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea lost crores of users in the same month.

The presence and dominance of Jio have triggered unprecedented consolidations in the telecom space: Vodafone-Idea merger is no doubt the biggest among them all.

However, now Airtel and Vodafone-Idea may join forces to fight the mighty Jio, and this can change everything.

Will Airtel Join Forces With Vodafone-Idea?

As per an unnamed top official from Airtel, they are now open to join forces with Vodafone-Idea and ensure more profits and revenues to defeat Jio by March end.

This alleged partnership will most probably happen in the telecom infrastructure space, rather than in the operations or services space.

In the past as well, Airtel and Vodafone had shared telecom infrastructure and towers, and this can be a new start to their old partnership.

This time, Jio will be the catalyst.

How Will This Work?

As per the information available, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea may float a new company which will be solely working on the optical fiber niche, which can also include towers and networks.

Once this company is floated, revenues can be generated as well, which will help both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea to fight Jio’s onslaught. 5G is about to hit India, and every telecom company and ISP will need services of an optical fiber network.

Immense opportunity for monetization.

The unnamed official said, “We will be delighted to share and create one company. We have already built a lot of fibre with Vodafone Idea and over the past two years, a lot of sharing has happened between the two companies.”

There has been no official comment from Airtel or Vodafone-Idea regarding this update.

Is This Partnership Even Needed?

Strategically speaking, both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are gasping for air, as Jio is snatching away market share at an unprecedented pace.

As shared earlier, Jio was the only telco to add new users in September, while Airtel and Vodafone, Idea lost their existing customers.

In order to increase ARPU, Airtel and Vodafone are now forcing the users to recharge monthly, and this is causing even more harm to them, as more and more users are now ditching their services, and opting for Jio or BSNL.

Even Airtel had to slash their tariff for 28-day validity plans, due to these reasons.

Hence, if Airtel and Vodafone-Idea want to beat Jio in 2019, then they will need to do something dramatic, and out of the box.

And maybe this new partnership in optical fiber space holds the secret.

The most used method is to download the Movies from the Youtube. As on September 20, 2018, Youtube for Jio Phone and Jio Phone was made available to download from the Jio Store. The way now Jio Users are downloading the movie has changed forever. So if you remember that SS method. It’s OKAY!

If not, here’s what you can do. If the movie is available on Youtube then only this method works. Jio Phone for Jio Users also allows the Youtube to be worked in the browsers as well. Simply, in this case, what you need to do is “but for that, u have to find the movie on youtube. then type ‘ss’ just before the ‘y’ of the word ‘youtube’ on the URL of that movie.”

After entering the SS, without any further changes make sure to press the Enter button. Once that done, now you will be redirected to a website named savefrom.net. Over there, you will be asked to choose the format.

You can easily select the one out of 144P, 240P, 360P, 480P, 720P (HD) and 1080P (HD) depending on your internet’s website speed, the time in which you want the movie and the internet data threshold limit you’re left with. Apart from that, for those who are willing to go for the Online Streaming or want to watch the movie online can watch it from the Jio Cinema Application available in your Jio Phone.

But, there is a restriction that you cannot download the movies from your Jio Cinema application. But in case if you’re not having pre installed Jio Cinema on your mobile phone, make sure to download it from JioStore.

Here, one most important thing to remember is that – Officially, any such service is not available from the side of Jio Phone, Jio Officials or Reliance Industries Limited. As, hacking or piracy is completely illegal and team advises you to remain away from it, whatsoever the case is.

Another most important aspect is that, even if you will be able to download the movies in your Jio Phone legally, you will not be able to keep many. Why? Because if you will decide not to use the MicroSD Card, then obviously internal storage of the Jio Phone is not sufficient.
