RCom in Trouble After Court Puts Stay on Selling of Assets
Reliance Communications suffered a severe blow by the NCLAT when the tribunal delivered its decision of retracting the order which it passed on April 6. The previous order allowed Reliance Communications to sell its fiber and towers, now the company has been restricted to do so until April 23. The tribunal decided it was better to put a hold on Reliance’s step after supreme court ordered a stay on the sale of assets owned by Reliance Infratel after HSBC Daisy Investments moved to court alleging Reliance of illicit conduct. Now RCom is awaiting for a further decision by NCLAT to move forward on the matter.
The head of the NCLAT bench SJ Mukhopadhaya said: “In view of the order passed by the Supreme Court, dated April 16, 2018…interim order dated April 6, 2018, is recalled.” The supreme court was of the thought that the NCLAT would hear the matter on Wednesday and has thus ordered a stay. The tribunal was to allocate the proceeds for the selling. However, since the matter will be heard again by the tribunal, the bench deemed it right to retract the April 6 order of selling of assets by Reliance Infratel. It was Justice Rohinton F Nariman’s observation in the supreme court which led to these circumstances for Reliance. He said that the tribunal’s decision of allowing Reliance to sell its assets was wrong and thus proceeded to put a stay on the same. Presently, the March 12th order which had barred Reliance Infratel from selling stays put. Last December RCom moved forward with its plan to sell towers and fibers for approximately Rs 24,000 crore.
However, despite the stay and the order, RCom is free to sell its airwaves and nodes but not the real estate. The money which Reliance will incur in its account will then be used to repay the telco’s huge debt of Rs 45,000 crore. During the hearing lawyers from both the sides went back and forth regarding the decision. While Justice Mukhopadhaya questioned the scope of NCLT to pass an interim order under Section 242 of the Companies Act when read with Section 241, which talks about operational mismanagement Reliance lawyers found themselves at a loss of words and demanded more time to get back on the issue. Now the decision remains pending until April 23 where the jurisdiction of NCLAT will be debated upon.
It remains to be seen whether or nor NCLAT retains the power of passing the decision which it ordered before. This news is reported by Economic Times. Challenges for Reliance surfaced when HSBC Daisy Investments (Mauritius) Ltd-led minority shareholders, who have just over 4% stake in Reliance Infratel knocked on the doors of Supreme Court challenging the NCLAT order of April 6 which allowed the lenders group led by SBI to sell Reliance Infratel’s assets. This legal affair comes after Reliance was accused by HSBC Daisy Investment for oppressing minority shareholders and operational mismanagement by selling its assets without any prior permission. Reliance has countered this allegation by saying that the said claim of the shareholder was not more than Rs 200-300 crore.

After 4G Feature Phone, Reliance Jio in Talks to Launch Laptops With Cellular Connectivity
After launching their own 4G feature phone (JioPhone), Reliance Jio’s next big move to increase its average revenue per user seems to be a laptop with a SIM card. The Mukesh Ambani led telecom major is in talks with US-based chipmaker Qualcomm to bring out laptops running Windows 10 with built-in cellular connections for the Indian market.
The Qualcomm laptops will apparently be bundled with Jio 4G connections. Qualcomm is already working with Jio and Reliance Retail to bring out a 4G feature phone. “…we have talked to Jio. They could take the device and bundle it with data and content,” Miguel Nunes, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, told Economic Times.
The company has been touting its Snapdragon Mobile Platform as future of mobile laptop computing which will bring the next-gen “Always Connected PCs”. The chip maker, meanwhile also talking with the homegrown Internet of Things brand Smartron to bring Snapdragon 835 powered laptops. Smartron has confirmed the same. Globally, Qualcomm has launched Snapdragon powered laptops with players such as HP, Asus and Lenovo.
Besides, Nunes said that there are now 14 operators that have extended their support for this new category of connected PCs, including the US’ Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and major carriers in Germany, Italy, the UK, France, and Australia. Last year, Qualcomm and Microsoft first announced that they are working together on Always Connected PCs at Snapdragon Tech Summit. They announced three devices the HP Envy x2, Lenovo Miix 630 and Asus NovaGo powered by Snapdragon 835 and running Windows 10.
The companies claimed that in addition to LTE connectivity, the SD 835 powered devices come with increased battery life with laptops providing 20 hours battery backup. Moreover, the devices would instantly switch on instead of taking few seconds to come out of sleep mode. The laptops also promise better security on mobile connections than public Wi-Fi hotspots. However, Qualcomm powered laptops are yet to hit global markets, so it is going to take a while before Jio gets their own SIM connected laptop. Stay tuned for more updates.

Reliance JioTV Web Version Pulled Down Due to ‘Technical Litigation’ Issues
Just a couple of days ago, we reported about Reliance JioTV’s web version official launch. And today, we have another interesting information about JioTV. So, if JioTV’s web version launch cheered you up, then this news will let you down. The Reliance JioTV Web Version is now pulled down and shows under construction for everyone who’s trying to access the website at the moment. This issue started since yesterday night, and since then, it just says ‘Website Under Construction.’ But actually, it’s not under construction. Reliance Jio has taken down the JioTV.com due to some ‘Technical Litigation’ issues.
We have received this information from Reliance Jio’s Priority care team. Furthermore, the priority care team added that they don’t have any estimated time on when the website will be back. On the sad note, the team also added that it might even take one year or six months or three months to come back.
We have also learnt that the reason behind taking down the website is from external sources, added the Jio Priority Care executive. We have reached out to Reliance Jio on the same issue, but yet to receive any response from them. We will update this post if we get any information from the company and the reason behind this. With the JioTV Web version, the company made it easy for millions of Indians watching content online.
That said, Jio did not face any such issues with the JioCinema web version though. Maybe the issue is because Jio is offering ‘Live TV’ service through a web version, which can also be streamed on television, either by opening the website directly or users even have the option of Google Chromecast. What’s your take on this issue? Are you disappointed with JioTV web version being pulled down? Let us know by commenting below.

Jio IPL 2018 251 Pack With 2GB Daily Data for 51 Days Is Now Available via Jio.com, My Jio App, and Others
With IPL 2018 having kicked off, Jio's new 251 plan that offers 102GB of 4G data over 51 days at a price of Rs. 251 is now available for recharge via Jio's website, My Jio app, and other recharge channels. With this 251 "cricket pack", the telco is targeting fans of IPL 2018, offering the ability to "stream almost every live match throughout the duration of 51 days" of the IPL, which began on Saturday and will end on May 27.
Notably, Jio's new pack has a daily data limit of 2GB, and like with other daily data plans, unused data will expire at midnight. As mentioned earlier, the Rs. 251 plan comes with 102GB of data on the Reliance Jio network, which means a per GB cost of less than Rs. 2.50, making it one of the more attractive options for heavy 4G data users. Note that while Jio is promoting the 251 pack for IPL 2018 viewers, it's not in any way tied to cricket or video streaming, and can be used for any purpose.
Jio Cricket Play Along live mobile game In addition to the new Cricket Season Pack, Jio has also announced a new live mobile game that is seemingly accessible to all smartphone users in India. Available for 7 weeks and across 60 IPL 2018 matches, the game can be played in 11 languages. The game claims to offer real-time interaction during the cricket matches. Jio says that certain prizes will be up for grabs during the game.
Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan Live show Apart from that, Jio also announced the launch of its new web show that will be hosted by personalities such as comedian Sunil Grover and anchor Samir Kochhar who will be joined by several comedians and popular cricketers, with live episodes airing every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; Virender Sehwag and Kapil Dev are expected to be part of the show. The show will premiere at 7:30pm on April 7 exclusively on the My Jio app.
The show will offer "unseen off-the-field experience, a hearty dose of laughter, exclusive comments by Cricket experts, and celebrity guests." Speaking at the launch, former Indian Cricketer, Kapil Dev said, "Cricket is an intense sport but that doesn't mean there can't be any fun on and off the pitch. The players are always playing pranks and cracking jokes in the changing rooms. With Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan LIVE, we are opening up the lighter side of cricket to the world. I am looking forward to the upcoming cricket and laughter season".

A Guide to Renew JioPrime Membership Despite Heavy Traffic
Reliance Jio has been known for providing very attractive deals to the users who are on the JioPrime Membership which has been a prominent highlight among all their offerings. The JioPrime membership has now ended for all the existing users, but there’s a reason for Jio users to be happy as Reliance Jio has revealed that they will bump every customer who has ever enrolled for the
Prime Membership before to renew their subscription to Prime. The users who are trying to get the free renewal might go through some glitch since Jio which boasts of 175 million customers in India will experience heavy traffic on its servers when an entire lot of users will try to open the website to renew their Prime subscription. We have however found a way around this glitch to ease the process of renewing the Jio Prime Subscription.
Getting the Renewal Option in MyJio App To get the option of Renewal in the MyJio app users will need to force quit the app and use their 4G Jio data for some time (maybe for 15 minutes or 30 minutes). After browsing the web or watching videos with Jio data, the users will be required to again log in to the app using their Jio numbers. Now when the users open the MyJio application again, they will be able to see the banner about Jio Prime renewal on their home screen.
Renewing Prime Membership The users who get to see the banner on their MyJio app will only have to tap on the banner to proceed with the renewal. After tapping on the banner, the app enlists all the number under the user’s possession for which they would like to renew their Jio Prime subscription. To go ahead, the users would only have to select the numbers and tap on proceed. The renewal gest credited to the account of the user within hours.
It is worthy to note that Prime membership is an essential service since it is even required to recharge the Jio using its plans. Therefore, we recommend that users who have paid Rs 99 previously to get the Prime Membership from Jio should definitely get their numbers renewed.
New Users New Users of Reliance Jio who aren’t enrolled for the Prime Membership should definitely get the prime subscription as it offers very amazing deals on the MyJio application. To do so, all the users will need to do it click on the Prime Membership offer banner and proceed with the transaction to pay Rs 99 and confirm their Jio Prime Membership. Most probably, users will be asked to enrol the JioPrime membership at the time of purchasing the SIM card itself.

Android Go Based JioPhone 2 to Launch in April at Rs 1999
Back in August 2017, Reliance Jio announced the 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone called JioPhone for Rs. 1,499. After many delays, the company started shipping the device in few numbers. Almost eight months after its launch, Reliance Jio has generated more feature phone sales than the other brands like Nokia and Samsung.
However, the JioPhone still misses the popular apps like WhatsApp. Even the company hasn’t started selling the JioMedia cable for screencasting. Now, we have some exclusive information about the company’s next big launch. In the coming weeks, Reliance Jio is going to launch the JioPhone 2 as the successor to last year’s JioPhone. Though the JioPhone 2 comes with a price tag of Rs. 1,999, it will be sold for an effective price of Rs. 0. However, the process of getting the money back is not yet known.
The Rs. 49 unlimited plan with 1GB of high-speed 4G data will also be applicable for this new device. It will mostly come with the similar sized display and T9 keypad as seen on its predecessor. Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform. The JioPhone 2 will also offer cameras both on the front and rear. While the JioPhone came with KaiOS, the upcoming JioPhone will be running on Android Oreo (Go Edition). The Yun OS powered Nokia 3310 4G launched in China is also rumored to go on sale in other markets with Android Go onboard.
The Google Assitant on JioPhone 2 will support both English and Hindi languages. It comes pre-loaded with the Jio suite of apps and Go-edition Google apps. This week we had covered a detailed video on the features of the Android Go where we clearly mentioned why you shouldn’t be buying a phone that comes with this special version of Android OS. The reason was primarily influenced by the prices of the phones launching i.e. the Nokia 1 & the Lava Z50 but with the JioPhone 2’s price of Rs 1,999, it might be worth buying.
Again, do make a note that these are easy rumors from the same source who shared us information on the Galaxy S8 Mini last year. Let’s wait for a few weeks & look forward to more leaks on this upcoming feature-rich smartphone from Reliance Jio.

WhatsApp to Release New App for JioPhone Users
WhatsApp is finally spotted working on a KaiOS version, which will bring the support for JioPhone users. The JioPhone took the country by storm with its extremely affordable price and the features which it came with. The popular JioPhone which Reliance Jio introduced ran its software on the KaiOS. Although the OS had been in existence for quite some years, but it shot to fame only when JioPhone became mainstream in India. After Jio rolled out its own app on the platform followed by the likes of Facebook. Finally, India’s most popular messaging app – WhatsApp messenger is being claimed to be in development stages for the KaiOS platform.
Mozilla had previously worked unsuccessfully to create a base for apps in HTML5 but this time with KaiOS which is in some ways, a late successor to the Firefox OS, is finally becoming popular thanks to Reliance’s JioPhone. Due to its usage on JioPhone and customers’ positive reviews, KaiOS has also been accepted by companies like Nokia and Alcatel for their phones – Nokia 8110 and OneTouch Flip Go by Alcatel respectively.
This year in MWC KaiOS made interesting revelations about their applications which included mainstream names like Facebook, Google Assistant and Twitter. However, WhatsApp was missing from the list of apps which would be supported on the platform. Although, people have previously found a long and tedious way of running WhatsApp on KaiOS, but some would that it wasn’t worth the effort. But now things would be changing as we get to hear about an official app of WhatsApp messenger for the KaiOS platform. WhatsApp has clearly stated its concerns about cutting down cost on less engaging platforms like Windows Mobile and Blackberry OS and has thus stopped development for these platforms.
However, WhatsApp had the following to say in regards to KaiOS. “Important references about the development of a new native KaiOS app had been found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38, indicating the presence of a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp servers,” posted by WABetaInfo. With this, it can be easily inferred that WhatsApp considers KaiOS to grow as a feature phone platform in coming years. Along with the Blackberry OS and Windows Mobile, WhatsApp is also set to stop support for Symbian S40 platforms. We are sure that the development of this new WhatsApp for KaiOS will be ready and the users of the latest feature phones will finally be able to see their favourite messenger on their phones.

Reliance JioTV app gets exclusive rights to stream Winter Olympic Games Pyeong Chang 2018 in India
Jio TV, the streaming app owned by the domestic telecom giant Reliance Jio, has been awarded the digital rights to stream Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 by the International Olympic Committee for India. The app will be providing "comprehensive coverage of the Games in India, thus enabling millions to access live and catch-up content on their mobile devices, on the move."
The Olympic Winter Games will begin from February 9 to 25 and will take place at PyeongChang County, South Korea. Reliance says it's JioTV app will have multiple channels to stream 24x7 live content. In addition to live streaming, the app will also include highlight packages. Users can also see the repeat programs in the app. Reliance Jio is trying its best to push the limits in order to overshadow its competition such as Airtel, Idea and Vodafone.
By acquiring the content streaming rights for its JioTV app, the telecom firm is also making strides in the content streaming market, which for now is dominated by Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hotstar and few others. For now, Amazon Prime seems to be leading the charts. "Using the value of the Prime bundle, Amazon Prime Video subscription users have already managed to surpass Netflix subscribers in Germany, India and Japan," said last month's IHM Markit report. However, on the global level, Prime is yet to surpass Netflix.
Not only Reliance Jio but other big global tech firms are also doing their best to promote their own platform by streaming content or giving more information on the upcoming Winter Olympics. Some have even introduced a dedicated themed smartphone. Google recently revealed how people can use its services to stay updated with what is happening at the Winter Olympics. Samsung has launched the 'PyeongChang 2018' variant of its Galaxy Note 8 handset.

Vodafone, Airtel & Idea ‘Plans’ To Counter Jio’s Rs 49 Plan!
Last week Reliance Jio announced an all-new Rs. 49/- plan as a part of its Republic Day offer. The plan offers unlimited data with 1GB of high-speed data and unlimited call benefits for 28 days at the lowest rate in India (as of February 1, 2018).
Alongside the Rs. 49/- plan, the company also launched affordable data add-ons at Rs. 11/-, Rs. 21/-, Rs. 5/-1 and Rs. 101/- for Jio Phone users. Jio had announced its 4G VoLTE-enabled Jio Phone last year. It is available at an effective price of Rs. 0/-.
Jio’s Predatory Rs 49 Plan The launch of Jio’s new Rs 49 plan came as a big blow for Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. Now, these telecom operators will be releasing similar plans to compete with Jio’s low-cost plan. As per industry sources, these telecom operators are planning to unveil some attractively priced tariff plans with mobile data bundled with voice calling, exclusively for feature phone users. The feature phone market primarily consists of voice on 2G, which accounts for around 65-70% of India’s billion-plus mobile user base and 50% of telecom sector revenues. The feature phone segment plays a critical role for India’s older operators Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL and others, who want to prevent users migrating to the newer entrant, Jio.
Other Telecom Operators Are Worried The Jio’s Rs. 49 per month plan offers the sector’s lowest price plan possible with free voice-calling for life and unlimited data, which includes 1GB of high-speed data, over a period of 28 days. The new plan could help the newest mobile carrier to eat into the feature phone market of incumbents who currently dominate the 2G market and rural markets unless the companies come up with similar aggressive plans.
Already the Jio Phone has captured 27% of the feature phone market in India and recently toppled Samsung to become the feature phone segment leader.
Jio’s Rs. 49 Plan Forcing Airtel, Vodafone & Idea For VoLTE-based 4G The telecom sector in the country is engaged in a fierce price competition. The cut in the interconnect rates have compounded the pressure on voice and data businesses amid continuing price wars. Kotak Securities has said that Jio’s new pricing moves target to add millions of 2G feature phone customers from the incumbent carriers, and this would would further damage their already weak financials.
This would force the operators to take tough calls like shutting down their 2G and 3G networks ahead of the current plans and would force the other telcos to roll out VoLTE based 4G networks on a war footing. The latest price move by Jio will intensify the competition even further in the telecom space.
