It seems that HMD Global is skipping the MWC unveil in favor of a dedicated launch for the smartphone. The Nokia 9 will be the first smartphone to jump to as many as five cameras on the back of MsnTarGet.CoM.

Evan Blass tweeted a picture of the device called Nokia 9 Pureview Beholder, which confirms five cameras on the back and dual cameras at the front. The addition of Pureview branding suggests the ZEISS imaging system will be identical to that on the Nokia Lumia lineup. It is expected to feature a 5.99-inch Quad HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 6GB of RAM, 128GB storage and Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. This could be a letdown since we will be seeing Snapdragon 855-powered phones next month.

Samsung Galaxy S-series turns ten this year and the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ are expected to be its biggest design evolution yet. The Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ are expected to come in multiple screen sizes including an entry-level model with a flat-screen this year. There are also rumors of a mid model with a 6.2-inch curved display and two more models with a 6.44-inch screen and optional support for 5G.

In terms of design, the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ are expected to feature metal and glass design but at the front, they are expected to feature in-screen dual camera setup. This design will allow for a higher screen-to-body ratio and there are also reports of Samsung adding reverse wireless charging this year. Other features include Snapdragon 855 SoC in the US and China and Exynos 9820 chipset in all other markets. These models are expected to come with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB storage. With the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, Samsung is also expected to integrate Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

After launching the P20 and P20 Pro at a separate event in March, Huawei is expected to return to MWC this year with the P30 and P30 Pro smartphones. The P30 series is expected to be an improvement over its predecessor by switching to a taller display design that drops the front-mounted fingerprint sensor in favor of an in-display fingerprint sensor. It is also expected to bring major changes in the camera department.

Evan Blass has confirmed that Huawei P30 will offer triple rear camera setup while the P30 Pro is expected to include four camera sensors and support 10x lossless zoom. The leaks claim that Huawei plans to use a 38-megapixel sensor but it is not clear how the four cameras will work. It is expected to feature a waterdrop notch design at the front and come with Kirin 980 chipset, 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.

Samsung will start selling foldable smartphones this year but Vivo will start selling smartphone will dual displays. Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition, the latest smartphone with 10GB of RAM and dual display design and a triple rear camera setup will be launched globally this year. The Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition features a 6.39-inch Ultra FullView display with 91.63 percent screen-to-body ratio.

It also features a secondary Super AMOLED display that measures 5.49-inches and is placed on the back of the device. There is 12-megapixel dual pixel main camera paired with a 2-megapixel depth sensor and time-of-flight sensor. There is under display fingerprint sensor, Funtouch OS 4.5 based on Android 9 Pie and 3,500mAh battery.

Sony could jump Samsung and others to become the first to launch the Snapdragon 855-powered smartphone. The Xperia XZ4 recently appeared on Antutu with a score of 3,95,000 and model number I8134. This indicates that the Xperia XZ4 will be the most powerful smartphone when it becomes official next month.

The leaked CAD renders show that it will feature an extra tall display design with 21:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to feature triple rear camera setup and include a headphone jack and dedicated shutter button for the camera.

Just like its predecessor, the smartphone has again tried to come up with a full-screen technology.

Huawei may bring the world’s first punch hole display phone to India in January. The smartphone features a punch-hole in the display which houses the selfie camera without any notch. Huawei Nova 4 will come with Kirin 970 chipset, 25MP selfie camera, triple rear camera setup and a huge 3,750mAh battery with fast charging support.

Samsung is expected to replace its hit J series with an all-new Galaxy M series. The company has been rumored to be mass producing of its first Galaxy M smartphones: Galaxy M10 and M20 in India. The Galaxy M10 will sport an Exynos 7870 and Galaxy M20 will be powered by Exynos 7885 chipset. These will be first Samsung smartphones to come with a display notch.

Huawei may launch its Enjoy 9 in India as Huawei Y9. The smartphone has already made a global debut recently and has been well received by the mass. The smartphone is very similar to the recently launched Honor 8X and uses similar specs and design language. The launch has still not been confirmed, as it may clash their own Honor 8X. Though if Huawei plans to bring Y9, the launch is expected in early 2019.

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has launched Oppo R17 Pro in India. The launch also marks the debut of the company’s R-series in India. When you’re a smartphone manufacturer preparing to introduce an all-new form factor to the marketplace, you certainly want to give the new handset a great name. A name that conveys something about the device that may seem unusual to people at first, especially those who are used to interacting with their mobile devices a certain way.

Along these lines, it seemed up until this point that Samsung was leaning toward calling its much-anticipated foldable phone something that has the word “Flex” in the name — say, Samsung Flex or Galaxy Flex. That’s based on reporting from The Wall Street Journal in recent days, and it certainly makes sense for conveying how the device works. Meanwhile, however, new potential branding for the bendy phone has also emerged.

As spotted by 91mobiles, Samsung has filed a trademark in the UK for a product called the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which presumably refers to its foldable phone. It was filed on November 27th under the so-called “Class 9” category, which includes only smartphones and tablets.

Another important point worth nothing: According to 91mobiles, the patent was filed on behalf of Samsung by London-based Fieldfisher LPP, which recently also applied for another trademark dubbed “Samsung Rize.” That one, too, was filed under the “Class 9” category, giving us one more tantalizing clue about what naming convention Samsung may ultimately decide to go with for its new phone.

The caveat, of course, is that neither of these might be under serious consideration — that the company may just be preserving options so it has the biggest selection of names to pick from. Still, though, when you’ve got a foldable phone and you want to somehow convey that in the name, it would seem that you’ve got a somewhat limited selection of words to choose from, right? “Fold” definitely works. To that end, we reported just a few days ago that there’s also some pretty significant overlap between three major phone makers all vying to bring foldable devices to market — and all of which are considering pretty similar naming options.

The one name that seems to be liked by LG, Huawei and Samsung as a good possibility for a foldable device is Flex, which makes sense. The WSJ reporting said that Samsung has considered Flex. According to LetsGoDigital, LG has filed several trademarks with the European Union Intellectual Property Office that show it’s considering Flex, among other names. And based on some IP documents reviewed by AndroidHeadlines, Huawei is also reportedly considering names like the Mate Flex, Mate Flexi for its foldable phone.

Expect to see more leaks in the coming weeks, especially as we get closer to the phone’s reveal when we’ll finally find out things like its name and other key details.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro vs iPhone XS vs Galaxy Note 9: In-Depth Comparison

All the three smartphones: Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Apple iPhone XS and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 are currently available in India.

Let’s begin!

Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a curved glass sandwich body with tapered edges. It has a thin curved bezel with rounded sides. Apple iPhone XS has a similar glass design with a stainless steel frame surrounding the device. The iPhone XS is protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on front and back.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on the other has a tall body in a more phablet shaped manner. There’s the new S Pen on the Galaxy Note 9 as well with Bluetooth LE wireless support.

Galaxy Note 9 comes with the 3.5mm headphone jack, missing on both Mate 20 Pro and iPhone XS. Galaxy Note 9 has narrow bezels not no notch unlike the other two.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39-inch Quad HD+ OLED display offering a screen resolution of 3120 × 1440 pixels backed by a notch on top in a 19.5:9 screen ratio. Apple iPhone XS also has a notch but with in a smaller 5.8-inch OLED display having a screen resolution of 2461 × 1125 pixels.

Lastly, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 features the largest 6.4-inch Super AMOLED edge-to-edge Infinity Display.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro runs on the top-end Kirin 980 processor. It’s the first 7nm processed Android SoC offering upto 20 percent better performance compared to Qualcomm’s current flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Apple iPhone XS runs on its own A12 Bionic chip, the first 7nm designed chipset in the world. The smartphone packs in an 8-core neural engine offering one the best smartphone experiences backed by a new ISP and improved AI processor. On the other, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has its in-house SD 845 compatible Exynos 9810 processor.

In terms of multitasking, memory heavy apps, graphically intensive games or extended usage, all the three phones have done exceptionally well.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is only available in a single 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage option in India. Apple iPhone XS on the other hand, has three storage options available in the country. You can buy a 64GB, 256GB or 512GB storage iPhone XS.

Galaxy Note 9 has two storage variants. You can get either 6GB RAM/256GB variant or the higher 8GB RAM/512GB storage variant.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box based on its own in-house latest EMUI 9.0 UI. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung Experience UX and iPhone XS on Apple’s own iOS 12 out of the box.

All the three phones support dual-SIM connectivity with iPhone XS supporting eSIM for a dual slot. Currently, in India, the eSIM facility is supported by Airtel and Reliance Jio.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a Leica-branded rear tri-camera set up comprising of a 40-megapixel RGB based primary sensor, 8-megapixel telephoto sensor and finally a 20-megapixel wide-angle lens for macro and landscape shots. Up front, it features a 24-megapixel front-facing f/2.0 shooter supporting infrared 3D facial recognition system like Apple’s Face ID.

Apple iPhone XS, on the other hand, features a rear dual camera system comprising of a 12-megapixel primary f/1.8 aperture lens coupled with a 12-megapixel wide-angle f/2.4 aperture lens. Up front, the iPhone XS has a 7-megapixel TrueDepth front-camera sensor supporting Face ID unlock.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a similar rear camera configuration as Galaxy S9 Plus. It features a 12-megapixel dual rear cameras with inbuilt variable aperture option to choose between f/2.4 and f/1.5 aperture with dual-pixel PDAF. Both the sensors support OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). Galaxy Note 9 on the front has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with autofocus feature and wide f/1.7 aperture.

All the cameras perform really well, but DXoMark has ranked Huawei Mate 20 Pro as the best camera smartphone in the world.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro has the biggest battery of all. The smartphone packs in a huge 4,200mAh supporting fast wireless charging, Wireless Reverse Charge and the new SuperCharge technology supporting upto 40W speeds.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also packs in a massive 4,000mAh supporting fast charging and wireless charging.

Apple doesn’t disclose its batteries. As far as we know, the iPhone XS reportedly packs a  3,179 mAh battery supporting wireless charging.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is available at Rs 69,990 for the 6GB RAM model. While the Apple iPhone XS has three variants with a price starting at Rs 99,900 for the 64GB model going up to Rs 1,34,900 for the 512GB model.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on the other costs Rs 67,900 for the 128GB base model and Rs 84,900 for the 512GB top model.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro does come with a ton of interesting features compared to Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone XS. The competitive pricing in India will help the new Huawei flagship stay ahead of its competitors like Apple iPhone XS, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, and Google Pixel 3 XL.

All the three phones offer a set of flagship features and top end specs.

If compared, the new Huawei Mate 20 Pro offers a host of new and coming of age features want in a premium flagship. If we had to pick one of the three, Mate 20 Pro is going to our choice for late 2018 in the premium flagship segment.

It is a long time rumour that Samsung is working on a foldable phone called the Galaxy X. The rumours now turn into a reality as Samsung reveals that its foldable phone is in works and will be coming soon. As many expected, Samsung didn’t launch the foldable phone but instead showed the panel of the phone which it calls Infinity Flex Display. The revelation happened at Samsung Developers Conference (SDC) 2018 keynote on November 7. As noted, the South Korean smartphone maker didn’t show the actual device. Instead, it just showed just the calls Infinity Flex Display which will be seen on the Samsung foldable phone when it goes official. The Infinity Flex Display panel of the foldable phone was shown as part of an engineering prototype at the SDC 2018 keynote. Besides the panel, Samsung didn’t reveal anything else about its upcoming foldable phone. The company didn’t reveal what it plans to call the foldable phone and if the phone will hit the Indian stores or not.

Samsung also didn’t reveal when it plans to launch the phone. Rumours claim that the South Korean smartphone manufacturer could officially launch the first ever foldable phone at Mobile World Congress 2019 in February. The prototype of the Infinity Flex Display was revealed by Justin Denison, Samsung’s SVP of Mobile Product Marketing at SDC 2018.

The design of the panel goes in line with the rumours and leaks that we have seen so far. To design and develop the Infinity Flex Display for its foldable phone, Samsung is seemingly using a flexible OLED panel which the company says has a 45% thinner polariser. It looks like the Samsung foldable phone will come with an external display on the rear of the device which will allow users to use the phone just like a regular phone when folded. In addition, it is said that there will an internal display that will let users use the phone as a tablet. There will be a third display too.

Samsung could also be working towards utilising all the three displays at the same time with the aim to provide a continuous experience between smartphone and tablet with the help of a feature called multi-active window. This window will allow users to use all the three displays and run three apps simultaneously. Overall, going by the panel prototype shared by Samsung and taking into consideration the leaks and rumours, Samsung’s foldable phone could be used as a smartphone as well as a tablet.

In addition to revealing the Infinity Flex Display, Samsung executive also revealed that the panel would enter mass production in a “matter of months”, this could mean that the foldable phone or Galaxy X is nearing its launch. Rumours say that the South Korean smartphone manufacturer could launch the foldable phone at Mobile World Congress 2019.

He further noted that the company had to work on new kinds of materials from the ground up and take a distinct design approach. Many elements ranging from flexible screen panel, a flexible layer beneath that, a foldable backplane and more.

Samsung will introduce the new One UI to work along with its Infinity Flex Display to provide a different experienced compared the current breed of phones. Be it viewing content or multi-tasking; One UI intends to deliver a seamless transition between the compact form factor to unfolded one and vice versa.

You can run up to three apps simultaneously, and Samsung calls the feature as Multi-Active Window. Of course, that would require a lot of developers to work on their apps to support such features, and that’s why Samsung invited them to the SDC.

Even Google is working closely with Samsung on the Infinity Flex Display to ensure that Android platform is ready to support it. Google is calling them Foldables and is working to enhance the Android and guide its developers to start using the existing features with as less effort as possible.

LG already has the flexible OLED displays in its kitty, and it won’t be surprising if the company follows Samsung’s suite. Expect more companies to step in and further the foldable smartphone concept to a viable form factor.

Samsung didn’t reveal details about the pricing or the release timeline of the foldable smartphone. However, the company did confirm its capability to start its production in a matter of months.

Samsung, in an attempt to challenge iPhone maker Apple and other Chinese vendors, is preparing at least three types of smartphones. The Korean giant is reportedly working on a foldable smartphone, a 5G-enabled smartphone and cheaper version of its flagship model for 2019.

Samsung is working with US-based Verizon to introduce the world’s first 5G smartphone. The company is working on Galaxy S10, codenamed “Beyond” expected to launch at Mobile World Congress next year. The smartphone is expected to come in three variants – a cheaper version without curved display, a mid-range version with dual curved edge display and in-display fingerprint sensor and a third premium model with support for Verizon’s 5G mobile network.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung is aiming to secure support from the biggest US carrier as it aims to popularize 5G network next year. With 5G, consumers will be able to experience data transfer speed that is multiple times faster than existing 4G mobile network. Samsung has reportedly embedded a fingerprint sensor under the display of Galaxy S10 and has overcome the challenge of mass-producing such a device.

With Galaxy S10, Samsung is also said to be preparing to challenge the business model of its Chinese rivals. The Korean company is said to be planning a cheaper version of its flagship model that could challenge flagships from Huawei and Oppo. The model could replace Samsung’s existing Galaxy A lineup altogether as it hopes to win consumers with the pull of Galaxy S branding.

The cheaper version of the Galaxy S10 will lack the dual-curved edge display design that was first seen on the Galaxy Note Edge in 2014. This particular model is also tipped to miss out on in-display fingerprint sensor in order to cut down on costs. Samsung is planning to ship all the three Galaxy S10 models with Android 9 Pie out of the box next year.

“We’re continually evolving our smartphone portfolio to provide our customers with new and exciting innovations and experiences. At this time, we don’t have anything to share about future devices. Please stay tuned,” Samsung told Bloomberg in a statement.

Samsung has already confirmed its plans to share more information about its foldable smartphone codenamed ‘Winner’ at its developer conference next month. Bloomberg reports that Samsung is debating between two prototypes ahead of final release: one that is horizontally longer and the other vertically longer when unfolded. Both the models open from side and side and the landscape model has reportedly fallen out of favor.

This bendable display phone might not feature a fingerprint sensor and is expected to include an extra four-inch screen on the outside for basic features like browsing mails and messages, without having to flip it open. The prototype design could be similar to Motorola Razr phone with the screen opening with a snap. The report claims that the display is coated with a film that “feels like ones used in photography instead of glass.”

The hinge for this folding phone has already passed internal tests of folding more than 2,00,000 times but there are still questions related to its yield rate in mass production. The company is struggling to figure out technical problems that may arise during mass production including possibility of this foldable display cracking into dried paper. The report mentions that the prototype measures more than 200 grams and Samsung might reduce the battery size in order to make it lighter.

Apart from engineering difficulties, Samsung is also addressing software issues by closely working with Google. Both the companies are said to be developing a special version of the Android operating system for the foldable smartphone. The interface of the final software is said to depend largely on which of the two design is chosen for final product.

Samsung is not expected to mass produce and offer retail model until second quarter of next year. However, the pressure is on the Korean giant to demonstrate feasibility of a foldable smartphone as its subsidiary aims to supply flexible displays to Apple and Chinese vendors next.

The Moto G6 has a 18:9 widescreen 5.7 inch Full HD+ display and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset under the hood. It has two variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage It has a rear dual-camera setup featuring a 12MP primary sensor coupled with a 5MP secondary sensor, 16MP front camera and a 3000mAh battery. On the other hand, Moto G6 Play features an only HD+ 18:9 widescreen 5.7 inch display, a Snapdragon 430 chipset, single 13 megapixel rear camera, 8 megapixel front camera backed by a massive 4000mAh battery.
2. Xiaomi Mi 8 & Mi 8 SE Xiaomi recently unveiled its much-awaited Mi 8 flagship at its annual event. The Mi 8 is expected to be launched globally in eight countries including its biggest market outside its home market, India. Mi 8 will come with the with a Full HD+ Super AMOLED 6.21 inch OLED display, Snapdragon 845, up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Mi 8 will feature an AI-enabled 12MP dual rear camera with a 20MP front camera and 3400mAh battery. The company hasn’t confirmed yet whether Mi 8 SE will be launched globally or not, but the SE edition is expected to launch as well. It features a 5.8 inch AMOLED display, rear dual camera of 12MP and 5MP sensors, the new Snapdragon 710, a 20MP front camera and a 3120mAh battery. Botu the smartphones will run the latest MIUI 10 based on Android 8.0 Oreo.
3. Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Xiaomi will be unveiling its Redmi Y1 successor in India on June 7. The smartphone is expected to be an Indian version of its recently-launched Redmi S2. Redmi Y series was launched as a selfie-centric series of smartphones in India exclusively, and Redmi Y2 will be a slight upgrade over its predecessor. It features a 5.99 inch widescreen 18:9 display, Snapdragon 625, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Redmi Y2 will pack a 12 megapixel + 5 megapixel dual rear camera and a 20 megapixel front camera. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with MIUI 9.5 on top powered by a 3080mAh battery.
4. Lenovo Z5 The smartphone has already launched in China, and it might make it to the country by the end of this month. Though, Lenovo Z5 was teased to be a flagship killer, turns out that it was a pure marketing gimmick by the manufacturers. The smartphone is not anything alike as it was expected to be. Instead Lenovo Z5 has launched with a Snapdragon 636 chipset, a 19:9 full HD+ elongated 6.2 inch display with a curved 2.5D Corning Gorilla in top and some mid-range features. Lenovo Z5 has a 3300mAh battery with 15W fast charge support, a rear dual camera consisting a 16 primary sensor and an 8 megapixel secondary sensor backed by AI capabilities and costs equivalent to Rs 13,700 in China.
5. Xiaomi Mi A2 Recently Xiaomi discontinued is Mi A1 smartphone in India as it launched Mi 6X in China, which will launch again in India as Mi A2. The Mi A series was launched in collaboration with Google, under its Android One project. The upcoming Mi A2 is expected to launch in India by the end of June or mid-July with the latest Android Oreo 8.1 on board. Mi A2 features a 5.99 inch widescreen 18:9 display, Snapdragon 660 processor and 4GB of RAM. Mi A2 has 64GB of onboard storage and it features a 20 megapixel front camera and a 12MP+20MP dual rear camera. With Android 8.1 Oreo on board, the device will be powered by a 3010 mAh battery.
6. Nokia 7 (2018) An updated version of Nokia 7 is expected to launch in China this month, and may come to India as early as June. Nokia already has a Nokia 7 Plus selling in India featuring a 6 inch full HD+ 18:9 widescreen display, Snapdragon 660, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Nokia 7 Plus comes with a dual rear camera system of a 12 megapixel primary shooter coupled with a 13 megapixel secondary shooter. Up front, Nokia 7 Plus features a 13 megapixel front camera and will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, backed by a 3800 mAh battery unit.
7. Oppo Find X Oppo is bringing back its Find series smartphones after four years with Oppo Find X. The smartphone is scheduled to launch on June 19 at Paris. Find X is expected to come to India by the end of June or July. The Oppo Find X may feature the latest 5G support and 3D facial recognition system with a Snapdragon 845 chipset. The Find X will come with 8GB of RAM, 256GB internal storage and a 6.42 inch bezel-less OLED 19:9 elongated display with 2K resolution and a 4,000mAh battery with Super VOOC fast charging.
8. Samsung Galaxy A9 Star & Galaxy A9 Star Lite As per a leak, Samsung is working on a two premium smartphones called Galaxy A9 Star and Galaxy A9 Star Lite. The new smartphone may launch on June 7 globally. The Galaxy A9 Star and its Lite version will come with edge-to-edge bezel-less displays, rear dual camera setup and AMOLED displays on top in a 18:5:9 screen aspect ratio. 9. Nokia X6 The newly launched Nokia X6 is an iPhone X inspired Nokia version, which was recently launched in China last month. The Nokia X6 is also the first Nokia smartphone to feature a notch at the top of the display. The Nokia X6 has gone out of stock with a few seconds in its first two flash sales in China. The smartphone is available in two storage versions of 4GB RAM with 32GB internal storage and a 6GB RAM variant with 64GB storage. Nokia X6 runs a Snapdragon 636 chipset with a 5.8 inch Full HD+ 19:9 elongated display. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with a rear dual camera system comprising of a 16MP + 5MP shooters. 10. Asus Zenfone 5 Unveiled at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, the Asus Zenfone 5 is an iPhone X inspired bezel-less smartphone featuring a notch at the top. The smartphone will get powered by the Snapdragon 636 chipset, similarly like its Zenfone Max Pro M1. The Asus Zenfone 5 was scheduled to launch in India in April, but the release date has been pushed, and it is expected to launch in India by the end of June. The Asus Zenfone 5 runs the latest Android 8.0 Oreo with an 19:9 6.2-inch HD+ display with a rear dual setup of 13MP+5MP cameras with an 8MP front camera. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, which can be expanded further. The Zenfone 5 will come with a 3,300mAh battery.

South Korean smartphone giant, Samsung is now said to add triple rear cameras on the Galaxy S10, which is slated to release in Q1 2019. KBI Securities analyst Kim Dong-won stated that Samsung’s planning to add three cameras to the back of its tenth iteration of Galaxy S flagship smartphone. Samsung is going with this decision because the brand is looking to compete with the likes of Apple and Huawei in the triple camera game.
Huawei already launched a triple camera smartphone in the form of Huawei P20 Pro, while Apple is heavily rumoured to include triple cameras on one of its iPhone releasing that could be announced in September 2018. Having said that, these are the analyst’s claims and Samsung is no way involved in this matter.
However, a recent report from South Korea also added that Samsung is exploring triple camera setup options for the Galaxy S10 along with the in-display fingerprint scanning technology. Also, it’s expected that more manufacturers will join the triple camera smartphone train in the coming quarters and the list could be led by Apple itself. We’re still months away from the Samsung Galaxy S10 unveiling, which as per the tradition will happen during the MWC 2019 or going by rumours, it could be even unveiled at the CES 2019 event itself. That said, take this news with a pinch of salt as we’ve considerable amount of time for the Galaxy S10 release. In other news, the third sensor on the Galaxy S10 is claimed to be a 3D sensor, something that’s no brand has used until now.
The Galaxy S10 will surely pack high-end hardware and Samsung wants to pack a punch in terms of specifications, especially considering the poor Galaxy S9 duo performance this year. Huawei is the first manufacturer to add three cameras on the rear side of a smartphone. The Chinese brand, on the Huawei P20 Pro, added triple camera setup comprising of a 40MP primary RBG sensor, 20MP Monochrome sensor and an 8MP telephoto sensor. While the device received praise from every corner of the world, Samsung might try its own luck by adding triple cameras on the Galaxy S10. Before the Galaxy S10, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be released, but that’s expected to be a minor upgrade over the Galaxy Note 8.

Mi 8 was launched on Thursday with an iPhone X-like design. While the new Xiaomi flagship is yet to reach the market, folks at DxOMark have managed to test the Mi 8 camera performance to show what's good (and not so good) about the latest Mi series flagship in terms of optics. The Mi 8 has received an overall score of 99 - surpassing the marks DxOMark Image Labs gave to the iPhone X last year and sharing the fourth place with the Galaxy S9+ that also received an identical overall score back in March this year. The overall score is also notably higher than what the Mi Mix 2S received earlier this year.
As per the result of DxOMark's benchmark tests, the Xiaomi Mi 8 has received a photo score of 105 from the DxOMark team, while its video recording capabilities have got a score of 88. To put that in perspective, overall DxOMark ranking leader Huawei P20 Pro got 114 and 98 respectively, second place HTC U12+ got 106 and 95 respectively, third place Huawei P20 got 107 and 94 respectively, fourth place (tied with Xiaomi Mi 8) Samsung Galaxy S9+ got 104 and 91 respectively, fifth place Google Pixel 2 got 99 and 96 respectively, while the sixth place iPhone X got 101 and 89 respectively. The Xiaomi Mi 8 was found to have some improvements in certain areas over the Mi Mix 2S (eighth place overall). The handset is claimed to capture impressively sharp, highly detailed images, along with accurate exposures and natural colours. Against the Mi Mix 2S, the DxOMark team has spotted that the new Mi handset has a slightly improved dynamic range - records a wide tonal range along with high levels of detail in shadows as well as highlights.
Noise levels on the smartphone are also noted as well-controlled. However, it has been noticed that noise reduction on the handset sometimes losses finer details. In terms of low-light, DxOMark considers the Mi 8 as a good performer in low-light levels. It is said to have accurate exposure control and a decent white balance. The team found a slight yellow-green cast on some occasions, though. Similar is the case with autofocus that is reported to be speedy most of the time but sometimes delays to adjust focus. Still images are also found to have the loss of detail in some cases when the light gets dimmer. The zoom performance of the Xiaomi Mi 8 is better when compared against the Mi Mix 2S as the new handset has improved autofocus establish and a smoother focus action over the previous hardware. But importantly, the 2x magnification is not as good as the flagships featuring a telephoto lens.
Bokeh effect on the Mi 8 has also been noticed to have some visible masking errors. On the video recording front, the DxOMark team has found autofocus as the main strength that is said to be fast, accurate, and offer good tracking capabilities while capturing a movement. Colours in videos are good even in low light though detail preservation isn't much impressive when comparing against other flagships. The dual camera setup of the Xiaomi Mi 8 comprises a 12-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor with an f/2.4 aperture - capable of offering 2x optical zoom. Both sensors support dual pixel PDAF.

When it comes to software features, Apple loves nothing more than to look to Android and copy various features that might improve its own mobile platform. There are countless examples of Apple “taking inspiration” from Android. (Except when it comes to notifications — why oh why won’t Apple steal Android’s notifications!?) Then, when it comes to hardware and physical designs, Android phone makers steal anything and everything Apple does. Historically they’ve been somewhat subtle about it, but this year they’re going all in, shamelessly cloning Apple’s iPhone X by the dozens. No, seriously, there are actually dozens of new Android phones that copy Apple’s iPhone X.
You can see 20 of them right here, and even more have been announced since then. Nearly every Android phone maker on the planet has copied Apple’s iPhone X at this point, and more Android-powered iPhone clones are due to be released in the coming months. In a bit of hilarious irony, however, there’s one Android phone vendor that hasn’t yet copied the iPhone X: Samsung. That’s right, the company that wrote the book on stealing Apple’s designs is one of the few companies left that hasn’t stolen Apple’s iPhone X design. That wasn’t a figure of speech, by the way. Samsung literally wrote a book about how to steal Apple’s iPhone designs. We’re almost halfway through 2018 and Samsung has yet to release a smartphone with a notch in the display like the iPhone X. As of now, there’s still no sign of a notched Samsung Galaxy phone coming anywhere down the pike. We know Samsung has toyed with notched phone designs, but nothing has materialized yet.
Samsung’s Infinity display design is simply too sleek to ditch for a notch, and we’re happy Samsung is sticking with an original design on its flagship phones. Of course, Samsung doesn’t need a notch to copy the iPhone X. Before we discuss Samsung’s upcoming new smartphone that just leaked, let’s first take a look at some existing Samsung smartphones. The image above comes from a user on Chinese microblogging site Weibo whose name loosely translates to HHP Good. It was posted earlier this week, and it shows an unreleased Samsung smartphone called the Galaxy A9 Star. The front looks just like any other smartphone out there, but the back is unmistakably modeled after Apple’s iPhone X.
Apple has been making smartphones with centrally positioned cameras on the back for years. Now, less than half a year following Apple’s iPhone X release, Samsung is suddenly switching it up and making a phone with the exact same vertically oriented dual-lens camera as Apple’s flagship iPhone. Mmm hmm. Samsung’s new Galaxy A9 Star and Galaxy A9 Star Lite smartphones are expected to be released in the coming weeks, though they’ll likely be reserved only for certain markets like China. A wider release isn’t expected, and the phones will likely never reach US shores. That’s probably for the best, especially considering a court recently decided that Samsung has to pay Apple more than half a billion dollars for copying the iPhone and iPad all those years ago. It looks like some habits are tough to break.
