Whether you have friends or family members who work and live different schedules than you, or you find yourself sending more “happy belated birthday” messages than you’d like, having the ability to schedule text messages ahead of time is an incredibly useful feature.

Unfortunately, only certain Android smartphones let you do this out of the box. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible if you’re using, say, a Google Pixel phone. There are multiple ways to schedule texts on Android—provided you have the right app for the job.

How to Schedule Text Messages on Android

How to Schedule Text Messages on Android
How to Schedule Text Messages on Android

Schedule Texts on Samsung Smartphones

Samsung Galaxy and Note smartphones users have it the easiest since they can schedule texts messages using the default Samsung SMS app that comes pre-installed on these smartphones:
  • Open the Samsung SMS app
  • Draft your text message
  • Tap the “+” button near the text field, or the three dots in the top right corner of the screen to open the calendar
  • Select the date and time
  • Tap “Send” to schedule.
While this is great news for Samsung Galaxy and Note owners, the stock SMS app on non-Samsung Android phones—like Google Pixel phones— lacks an equivalent feature. Scheduling texts is still possible, but you’ll have to use a third-party app messaging instead.

Use Pulse SMS to Schedule Texts

In order to schedule texts on non-Samsung Android phones, you’ll need to replace the basic Android SMS app—that’s where Pulse SMS comes in.

Pulse SMS is not only one of the best looking alternative text messaging apps for available on all Android devices, it also includes features that make it better than the stock texting app. While some of these features are only available when you upgrade to the premium version (which costs $10 for lifetime access), the free version includes a text scheduler.

You’ll need to download Pulse SMS from Google Play and then set it to your default texting app, but once you’ve done that you can begin scheduling messages immediately. Here’s how:
  • Tap the orange “+” button and then select the contact you wish to text.
  • In the conversation window, tap the three vertical dots icon in the upper right, then tap “Schedule a message.”
  • Set the date and time using the calendar interface
  • Draft your message. When you’re finished, tap “add” to schedule.

How to find, edit, or delete a scheduled message in Pulse SMS:

  • Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner to open the sidebar.
  • Tap “Scheduled Messages”
  • Tap the conversation, then tap and hold the message you wish to modify. Select “Edit” to edit the text, or “Delete” to delete the scheduled message.

Use IFTTT to Schedule Texts

This method of scheduling texts is a little more complicated than directly scheduling a text via Pulse SMS, but if you don’t want to swap to a whole new SMS app, it’ll get the job done.

This IFTTT applet can be used to schedule a text message when a Google Calendar event is triggered. The only requirements are an IFTTT account linked to the necessary apps (IFTTT will request permission if you haven’t linked to proper accounts/apps yet). Simply use the links above and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the message.

Use Alarms or Calendar Reminders

This last suggestion is only a half measure since it requires you to follow through and send the text yourself, but having a reminder loaded with a pre-written message is better than nothing.

While you can’t directly schedule and send a text message through Google Calendar, you can still use it to set up event reminders to send a text for special occasions. You can even write up a draft of the text you’re thinking of sending in the “Notes” section when setting up the reminder; that way you can copy and paste the text when the time comes to finally send it.

Google this year in June introduced Google Routines, a feature that makes the Assistant perform multiple tasks one after another by taking just one voice command. The feature is quite often seen while setting up alarms in the ‘Clock’ app in Android smartphones in India. This not just saves your effort to manually trigger each task on your smartphone but also saves time to open different services, perform the given job, and then closing it. So, here’s how you can make use of Google Routine. Here’s how you can set up Google Routine from inside the Clock app.

How to make Google Assistant perform multiple tasks with a single voice command

How to make Google Assistant perform multiple tasks with a single voice command
How to make Google Assistant perform multiple tasks with a single voice command

1. Step 1 While setting up an alarm, tap on the ‘Google Assistant Routine’. This will open the page with all the tasks that the Assistant will carry once you dismiss the alarm.

2. Step 2 You can tap on any of the tasks such as Adjust media volume, Tell me about the weather, Tell me about my commute, Tell me about today’s calendar, Tell me today’s reminder and Take phone off silent.

3. Step 3 Once selected, you can change the order of the tasks that will be carried by Google Assistant.

4. Step 4 Then you can choose one of the tasks from the ‘And then play...’ This includes options like News, Podcasts, Audiobook and Nothing.

5. Step 5 It is even possible to choose news sources from where the Assistant will read your news. Same goes for Podcasts.

6. Step 6 Once done, tap on the ‘tick mark’ icon on top right corner. You will get a prompt saying that the assistant will give you information from the lock screen as well. Tap on ‘Allow’ to approve.

7. Step 7 That’s it. You will see a coloured ‘Google Assistant Routine’ icon just under the alarm. To remove it, tap on the ‘minus’ sign.
Now that Google Routines has started showing up in India inside the ‘Clock’ app, we expect it to have a deeper integration in other services as well.

Facebook-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp recently introduced the Stickers option. The new feature allows users to send and receive stickers while chatting just like we do in Messenger and other instant messaging apps. In the beginning, there was only a few stickers pack available including the pre-installed one. However, users can download more stickers using the built-in Sticker store. The Sticker store also offers the option to download new stickers from the Google Play Store.

There are several third-party apps and stickers packs available to download, but you’ll rarely find one that you would actually like to share among your friends and family. Android 9 Pie Beta Update Released for Nokia 8

OxygenOS OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T Android™ 9.0 Pie and Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie Beta Update
OxygenOS OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T Android™ 9.0 Pie and Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie Beta Update

HMD Global is currently enjoying the positive response it received for the newly launched Nokia 8.1. But just a week back, the company was in the news for a bad reason and that’s because of the Nokia 8. Right after the Nokia 8.1’s announcement in Dubai, a report surfaced online stated that HMD Global is intentionally delaying the Android 9 Pie update rollout for the Nokia 8 because it’s looking to boost the sales of the new Nokia 8.1 which runs the latest iteration of Android out of the box. HMD rubbished the report by saying every chipset requires its own tweaking and it’s currently facing some issues with the Nokia 8’s Pie update. But the company did not stop right there. Today, it announced Android 9 Pie beta update for its first flagship smartphone, which is a good thing to see from the two-year-old smartphone brand.

Nokia 8 Gets Android 9 Pie Beta Update

It has been a long wait for Nokia 8 owners as the company chose to release Android 9 Pie update to the mid-range phones such as Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus first. Since every Nokia 8 owner is complaining about the delay of the update, HMD decided to throw in a beta version first so that users can experience it and give feedback to the brand. Juho Sarvikas, the Cheif Product Officer at HMD, announced this new on Twitter by quoting “Thank you for your patience. Since you had to wait a bit longer than expected for Android 9 on your Nokia 8, we decided to make an immediate Beta Labs release. Please join us in finalising the commercial release – your feedback is extremely valuable.”

Being an Android One handset, the Nokia 8 boots stockish version of Android 8.1 Oreo right now. Except for the customised Nokia Camera app, the experience on all the Nokia phones is pretty much similar to the Google Pixel devices.

HMD Global Now Has Four Android 9 Pie Devices

HMD Global is the only manufacturer to push Android 9 Pie update to four devices after Google. The company has already pushed the update to Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 7 Plus and the new Nokia 7.1. All the four smartphones are currently available for purchase in India. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is available at Rs 15,999, Nokia 7 Plus at Rs 25,999, Nokia 7.1 at Rs 19,999 and the Nokia 6.1 at Rs 14,000. All the four smartphones now come with Android 9 Pie out of the box, which is a great feat for a company of two years old. Also, the newly launched Nokia 8.1 comes with Pie out of the box, so HMD has a total of five devices with Android Pie. The company is slated to release Android 9 Pie update to Nokia 8, Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 5.1 Plus by the end of this year.

Only Google has more devices than HMD Global running Android 9 Pie. The Google smartphones currently running Android 9 Pie are Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL.

The government expects to complete processes for 5G spectrum auction by August and the services will be rolled out by 2020. The OnePlus CEO reportedly confirmed that the TV will launched next year, but India will see it coming only in 2020. The upcoming OnePlus TV is likely to take on the flagship TVs from Samsung, Sony, LG, and Xiaomi. The OnePlus TV will be smart and also a flagship killer, the company reportedly said.

India to get 5G soon? DoT expects to complete auction process by August

The government expects to complete processes for 5G spectrum auction by August and the services will be rolled out by 2020, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said Monday.

"Trai has given a preliminary set of recommendations, which the working committee at the Department of Telecommunications is looking at. Task force has also given broader set of (spectrum) bands on which we have to work.

Everybody has said that since ecosystem is not ready, 5G will be ready after july-August next year," Sundararajan told reporters on the sidelines of a workshop with states and Union territories. Amid a raging financial crisis in the industry, India's largest telecom operator Vodafone Idea has urged the telecom department not to hold spectrum auction till 2020 on the grounds that fresh need for quality radio waves will arise only once the 5G ecosystem is ready

"We expect to complete due procedure by then (July-August 2019). I cannot say whether it (spectrum auction) will happen by then, but we will be ready post-second half of 2020. When we say 2020, it doesn't mean the whole country will have 5G but it will start. Field trials are going on," Sundararajan said.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Sunday recommended auction of about 8,644 MHz of telecom frequencies at an estimated total base price of Rs 4.9 lakh crore, which includes radio waves for 5G services.

The 5G committee of the telecom ministry has said about 6,000 Mhz of spectrum can be made available without delay for the next generation mobile service. The panel has spotted spectrum for 5G services across 11 bands, of which four bands -- premium 700 Mhz band, 3.5 gigahertz (Ghz), 24 Ghz and 28 Ghz band -- can be made immediately available for the service.

During her speech at the workshop on the implementation of the National Digital Communications Policy, Sundararajan said that the roll out of 5G services in the country will have an impact of USD 1 trillion on the economy. The workshop was attended by most of the states and Union territories.

After taking Indian mobile phone market by storm, Chinese technology firm OnePlus is now eying market of other products including Television. OnePlus, which become the number one smartphone brand in India, is striving hard to keep its position intact, is likely to launch TV as next product in India. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently stated about launching OnePlus TV, but added that the product will come to India a bit late.

Earlier reports were that OnePlus TV would be launched in India in 2019, but Economic Times report stated that OnePlus TV will not be coming in 2019, rather it will be launched in 2020.

When asked if the OnePlus TV will be launch in India next year, Pete Lau told ET that it would perhaps happen in 2020. The OnePlus TV will reportedly be available exclusively on Amazon India website.

From smartphones to tablets and PCs, fingerprint unlocking has seen a gradual surge in popularity in the last couple of years. However, the technology is now shifting gears and moving to a new territory: cars. According to a report by The Korean Herald, South Korean auto giant Hyundai has showcased a car that will allow drivers to unlock and start the vehicle by simply using their fingerprints. The car in question is Hyundai’s premium SUV, the Santa Fe. The company showcased the car – and the tech – at an auto show in China.

What’s even better is that as soon as the fingerprint is recognised the car will adjust the angle of rear-view mirrors and the position of the seat.

As of now, the feature will come to the Hyundai Santa Fe in China and is expected to debut in 2019. A report by Engadget further explains that Hyundai uses “human capacitance” to make sure that no one can hack or fake fingerprints. According to Hyundai, the system has an error rate of 1 in 50,000. The new Santa Fe in China will also Baidu’s voice recognition and will offer a wireless mobile phone charger.

While fingerprint tech has been around in cars, Hyundai will be the first manufacturer to use it in a vehicle’s door handle. The car also comes equipped with Chinese internet giant Baidu's voice recognition system and a wireless phone charger. As of now it has been reported that Hyundai will launch the car in China only. It is expected to roll out on the roads in early 2019.
