How To Select TV Channels: TRAI New Recharge Rule (2019 Onwards) – After 29th December 2018 onwards, DTH new rules are implemented from the side of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India). In this post, DTH New Rules by TRAI | TV Channels ₹130 Tariff Plans for D2H & Cable TV Explained with Channel List. Also, we will be providing the complete channel list as well in which you can see if the SD (Standard Definition) or HD (High Definition) channel rates are given.

How To Select TV Channels: TRAI New Recharge Rule (2019 Onwards)

How To Select TV Channels: TRAI New Recharge Rule (2019 Onwards)
How To Select TV Channels: TRAI New Recharge Rule (2019 Onwards)
Thus, stay tuned with us till the end. First of all, whether you are watching Sony TV, Sab TV or Zee TV, they’re not just channels. But they are big brands and companies Star India Private Limited, SONY pictures Network India private limited, Zee Entertainment Enterprise limited. msnTarGet.com

These channel companies are actually the broadcaster. They’re mainly responsible to generate the content. But, by the time content is reached to our Home Television, there must be a mediator or distributor or cable operator (all the three are one and the same thing) in between to manage these channels. So, Airtel, DTH, Tata Sky etc. are all distributors only. soas.in

Now, it takes up the channel from the broadcaster and shows the channel to us. Thereafter, the money we sent back to the distributor gets back to the broadcaster with some commission of distributor with it. Now the actual problem was that the public was not willing to watch as many channels as provided by the distributors. Thus, TRAI new rule just says – choose the channels you want to watch. Fun2Ind.com

The original problem here was that the distributor was the boss in this case. Like happened in the case of the Tata Sky. Because of some conflicts, Tata Sky completely removed off all the channels of the Sony Network. Following which, ones who paid for the same earlier were dumped in the problem.

Don’t even think that this new rule of TRAI has taken place overnight. Everything has been changed now but the procedure was seriously too long. First, on 3rd March 2017, it was published for the first time. Then after the long discussion, it was launched first time on 3rd July 2018. After that 180 days timeline was given to all the distributors and were asked to have their systems configured according to this new rule. MsnTarGet.com

Now if you count 180 days from 3rd July 2018. Then the date will be 29th December 2018. The first point of this tariff plan is that you will be getting the space of 100 channels in just 130 Indian national rupees. In other words, this is the maximum capacity of the channels you can watch in the respective space. Now after buying the space you can select the channels with your help. soas.in

There are actually two types of Channels on the television. First ones are free to air and the second one being Paid channels. Needless to say, you need not to pay for a single penny for all those channels which are Free to Air. The list of all the free channels and paid ones can be checked from the official website of TRAI easily that is – www.trai.gov.in. Full form of TRAI just to let you know is Telecom Regulatory Authority of India which is a Government agency. Fun2Ind.com

Now almost 25-26 channels space will be occupied by the DD or Doordarshan Channels (in which almost all of them are Free to Air). Remaining, you can fill the channels as per your choice. If you want to fill all the free ones, then okay and also if you’re willing to fill all the paid ones.

Here, you also need to understand the game of SD (Standard Definition) and HD (High Definition) channels. Here, if you try to fill up the HD (High Definition) channels right here. Then you will have to take care of the fact that 1 HD (High Definition) channel = 2 SD channel. Means one HD (High Definition) channel will be taking up the space of 2 SD (Standard Definition) channels in the Rs. 130 space you’ll buy. mobask.com

Apart from that, all the distributors have also got one more other option. TRAI has asked them that they can also prepare a bouquet. bouquet means, they can prepare a bunch of channels in which all their HD or SD channels can lie. In Short answer of How To Select TV Channels: TRAI New Recharge Rule (2019 Onwards) is that – you can call your DTH operators and have your channels set by them for you.

Here is the list of all FTA channels, along with Pay channels, as shared by TRAI on their website.

The telecom and broadcast regulatory body, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has passed a new mandate, capping the installation and activation charged for DTH providers at Rs 500. This new mandate states that DTH providers will not be able to charge more than Rs 350 as installation charge and not more than Rs 150 as an activation charge of the service. Contrary to this, currently DTH providers charge Rs 1,200 for installation and activation of DTH service. This charge is non-refundable, and no extra rental is charged for equipment on top of service rentals. However, after this new mandate, the service providers might levy an upfront refundable deposit and a monthly charge for equipment.

Trai Issues New Mandate for Capping Installation and Activation Charge at Rs 500 for DTH Subscribers. DTH Activation, Installation Cost Slashed By 58%; TataSky, Airtel, Dish Cannot Charge More Than Rs 500!
TRAI's new rules aims to help new DTH customers in India. Will this help?

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI is indeed concerned about consumers, and this latest directive clearly proves that.

TRAI has ordered all DTH or Direct to Home providers that they cannot charge more than Rs 500 for DTH activation and installation.

How will this benefit the consumers?

TRAI Order: Rs 500 Maximum Charge For DTH Activation, Installation

TRAI’s new rules for Cable TV and DTH will be effective from December 29th, and will roll out pan-India starting January 1st, 2019.

A new rule pertaining to DTH activation and installation has been added by TRAI, which states that DTH providers in India cannot charge more than Rs 500 for the same.

While Rs 350 can be charged maximum for installation, Rs 150 for activation is the cap.

TRAI’s new order said, “A Distributor of television channels or its linked local cable operator, as the case may be, may charge an amount not exceeding rupees three hundred and fifty as a one-time installation charge.. [and] an amount not exceeding rupees one hundred as a one-time activation charge for activating the broadcasting services related to television.”

How Will This Benefit Consumers?

Currently, Rs 1200`is the normal installation and activation charges for DTH services. This is not refundable and doesn’t include any additional features or plans.

This cost includes charges for installing new wires and activating the service.

Hence, the cost for the same has now been slashed by 58%, which will directly benefit those consumers who are installing new DTH service.

However, those who have existing DTH services won’t be impacted by this new rule.

Besides, TRAI has also ruled that DTH companies cannot charge more than Rs 250 for sending technicians to solve any issue related to DTH connections.

Cost Of New Equipment – How Will DTH Firms Manage It?

Normally, the new equipment for a new DTH price costs Rs 2200 for SD connection, and Rs 2500 for HD connection. As of now, DTH companies compensate by charging Rs 1200, which is half of the amount from the customers, and the rest they pay.

But now, with TRAI forcing them to charge Rs 500 max, the issue of new equipment for DTH customers can be an issue.

There are some theories going around on this development.

Maybe, DTH providers like Airtel, Tata Sky etc can charge a security deposit of Rs 700 to Rs 1000, which means that overall, the new customer will need to pay Rs 1200 to Rs 1500, which is the norm as of now.

However, once the DTH connection is terminated, the DTH will need to return the security deposit.

Trai Issues New Mandate for Capping Installation and Activation Charge at Rs 500 for DTH Subscribers

New Capex on Activation and Installation Charges for DTH Providers

Regarding this new capex, Trai issued a clarification relating to the new tariff regime which comes into effect on December 29. The regulatory body said, “A Distributor of television channels or its linked local cable operator, as the case may be, may charge an amount not exceeding rupees three hundred and fifty as a one-time installation charge.. [and] an amount not exceeding rupees one hundred as a one-time activation charge for activating the broadcasting services related to television.”

Trai has also informed that if the consumers manage to find a set-top box which is usable with the DTH provider’s service, then they should be allowed to use the same. Expanding on this, Trai said, “It shall be permissible for every subscriber to buy a set top box of approved quality from the open market, if available, which is technically compatible with the system of the Distributor of television channels. The distributor or its linked local cable operator, as the case may be, shall not compel any subscriber to buy or take on rent the set-top box from him alone.”

New Rules for Equipment Related Charges

As per the current standards, the cost incurred by the DTH provider for equipment in an SD connection is Rs 2,200 whereas for an HD connection the fee stands at Rs 2,500. Traditionally, the DTH subscribers pay around half of this amount while the DTH providers manage the other half. With the introduction of the new tariff scheme, the most feasible way for the DTH providers will be to charge a security deposit of Rs 700-1200 on top of Rs 500 installation and activation charge. Another way that DTH providers can opt for is the selling of equipment to the subscribers for Rs 1,500-2,500.

Trai has also said that in case a subscriber disconnects from the DTH provider and notifies the DTH provider before 15 days of disconnection, then the DTH provider will have to refund the security amount within seven days of disconnection.

Apart from this, the regulator has also put a max cap on the visiting charge of service technicians to subscriber premises for carrying out repair and maintenance services. This charge has been set at a max of Rs 250 per visit.

It’s no secret that the next product category OnePlus is targeting is smart TV. Now, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has hinted at a possible India launch timeline for the first OnePlus TV.

In a conversation with ET, Lau hinted that Indian consumers will have to wait till about 2020 to get their hands on a OnePlus TV. It’s been reported that the smart TV will be placed in the flagship category, and the company is taking its time as it wants the product to be the “best there is”.

Xiaomi to Launch a New Smartphone With 48MP Camera in January 2019

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has grown in leaps and bounds in the last few years. With its really affordable and attractive pricing and competitive specifications, Xiaomi’s phones have managed to dominate the Indian smartphone market. With that being said, the company hasn’t lost its focus on innovating its phones. The brand had introduced the Xiaomi Mi MIX smartphone which made the bezel-less screens mainstream. Now, Xiaomi has teased yet another revolutionary addition to one of its line-up, a 48MP camera sensor. On top of that, Xiaomi has also announced that this phone would probably launch in January 2019.

48MP Sensor Camera Phone – Mi Mix 3S or Mi 9?

Now with phones like Galaxy Note 9, iPhone XS and Google Pixel 3 in the market right now, which also enable top class imaging capability, what the new smartphone by Xiaomi will ship in terms of imaging quality is yet to be seen.

Xiaomi President, Lin Bin took to the Chinese social media site and microblogging platform, Weibo, and shared an image of the new phone which comes with the 48MP camera sensor. On taking a closer look at the picture, we get to see a 48MP camera sensor which is paired with a dual-tone LED flash. On the side edge of the phone, we also spot the volume rockers thus confirming that this sensor makes its way on the rear side of the phone. Another thing to note is that this camera module appears to be placed on a raised section of the device, which points towards the direction of a dual or triple rear camera setup. Even Xiaomi’s global spokesperson, Donovan Sung confirmed the phone would launch in January 2019.

As per the reports surfacing online, this new phone is expected to make its way into the market in January 2019. Now the question remains whether this phone will be the successor to the Mi 8 or the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 or Mi Mix 3S. Since we know that Xiaomi has kept its Mi 7 and Mi 8 release for post-MWC slots, it is rather unlikely that the phone will be the successor to the Mi 8. On the other hand, this could mean that the phone makes its debut as a 5G version of the Mi Mix 3 or the Mi Mix 3S. Also, as we know from previous updates, the 5G phones which are slated to launch in 2019 will come with an expensive price tag and this new 48MP sensor might as well be a new addition from Xiaomi to explain the hefty pricing.

Sony 48MP Sensor vs Samsung 48MP Sensor

There are two options for the new 48MP sensor which Xiaomi seems to be implementing for its next flagship smartphone. The first contender for the spot is the Sony IMX586 camera sensor which was unveiled in July 2018, and it comes with an impressive 48MP resolution. Xiaomi has been known to use Sony IMX sensors for its flagship devices. However, now there is also another 48MP sensor from Samsung which might take the spot on the new phone. This new sensor by Samsung is the ISOCELL Bright GM1 which was unveiled back in October. Both of these camera sensors span a 1/2-inch and feature 0.8?m pixels, and they can render 12MP resolution images with a 1.6?m equivalent light sensitivity.

Unlike sensor with smaller pixels which exhibit poor light sensitivity and higher noise, Sony has asserted that images out of this new 48MP sensor will be able to boast four times dynamic range when compared to the traditional sensors. This will be possible thanks to the real-time HDR functionality and Quad Bayer Array technology. Sony’s sensors have also been claimed to be capable of shooting 4K videos at 90fps which will go well with the newly announced Snapdragon 855 processor.

The tussle between DTH service provider Tata Sky and Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) seems to be finally ended. Tata Sky is sending out a text message to its users stating that they can now watch all the 32 channels of Sony India, hinting at a settlement between the two parties. For the unaware, Tata Sky’s contract with SPN India ended back on July 31, 2018, after which it dropped 22 channels of Sony, retaining 11 channels. Now, Tata Sky is providing 32 channels of the Sony India, further renewing its contract. Earlier, Tata Sky subscribers had to give a missed call to the company to view the retained 11 channels, but there’s no such scheme now as all the channels are available for viewing. If you’re subscribed to a particular package of Sony channels, you can start viewing them without any additional hassle.

TDSAT Intervened Between Tata Sky and SPN India

TDSAT has entered the picture when the issue happened back then. “Tata Sky subscribers faced issues with the absence of SPN channels. “…we direct both the parties to sit across the table and try to work out a mutually acceptable negotiated agreement within a period of four weeks from today. If required the parties may seek an extension of the period,” TDSAT said in its order.

The matter has been listed for November 11 for considering the outcome of the fresh round of negotiations which the parties are to carry out in the meantime. And finally, it seems to have settled now as mentioned above. Tata Sky is pushing a message to the users as “All 32 Channels of Sony are now available on Tata Sky. Happy Viewing.”

What’s the Issue Between Tata Sky and SPN India?

Earlier in October, Tata Sky dropped 22 channels of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) and three of TV Today Network on pricing issues. SPN’s three-year contract with Tata Sky had expired on July 31, and the two since then have been negotiating on a new pricing deal. That said, Tata Sky retained 11 channels of SPN India including popular ones such as SET, SONY SAB, SET HD, Sony Six, Sony Ten 1 and so on.

The contract tenure between SPN and Tata Sky came to an end on July 31. After the talks for a negotiated agreement did not yield any result, SPN served a notice to Tata Sky on September 7, followed by a public notice on September 10. Consequently, Tata Sky opted for an RIO-based agreement effective September 30 midnight for ten channels.

SPN India Sought Rs 1,700 Crore for Contract Renewal

This is an interesting aspect which came out. Tata Sky had pointed out that negotiations failed because the demand was for Rs 1,700 crore and that too when the right of telecasting IPL matches was no longer available with SPN as it has been won recently by another broadcaster. Under the old terms, SPN was getting Rs 800 crore approximately.

So SPN India sought more than double the amount of previous contract value and that too without the rights of IPL. For the unaware, Sony India owned the rights to broadcast IPL matches for ten years since 2008. But in September 2017, Star India pipped Sony to bag the rights for four years- 2018-2022. Having said that, there are no details available on the new contract between Sony India and Tata Sky.

Reliance JioTV Web Version Pulled Down Due to ‘Technical Litigation’ Issues
Just a couple of days ago, we reported about Reliance JioTV’s web version official launch. And today, we have another interesting information about JioTV. So, if JioTV’s web version launch cheered you up, then this news will let you down. The Reliance JioTV Web Version is now pulled down and shows under construction for everyone who’s trying to access the website at the moment. This issue started since yesterday night, and since then, it just says ‘Website Under Construction.’ But actually, it’s not under construction. Reliance Jio has taken down the JioTV.com due to some ‘Technical Litigation’ issues.
We have received this information from Reliance Jio’s Priority care team. Furthermore, the priority care team added that they don’t have any estimated time on when the website will be back. On the sad note, the team also added that it might even take one year or six months or three months to come back.
We have also learnt that the reason behind taking down the website is from external sources, added the Jio Priority Care executive. We have reached out to Reliance Jio on the same issue, but yet to receive any response from them. We will update this post if we get any information from the company and the reason behind this. With the JioTV Web version, the company made it easy for millions of Indians watching content online.
That said, Jio did not face any such issues with the JioCinema web version though. Maybe the issue is because Jio is offering ‘Live TV’ service through a web version, which can also be streamed on television, either by opening the website directly or users even have the option of Google Chromecast. What’s your take on this issue? Are you disappointed with JioTV web version being pulled down? Let us know by commenting below.

Called the Mi LED Smart TV 4C in India, it was priced at CNY 1,849 (roughly Rs. 19,000), so the India price of Rs. 27,999 seen in the listing is a significant premium.
A 15-percent off label is visible on India site listing, but it is not certain if the price seen takes into account that discount, as the model is also seen as out of stock. A 55-inch model was also launched in the Mi TV 4C series, priced at CNY 2,649 (roughly Rs. 26,000). The Mi TV 4C's 43-inch model bears a full-HD display, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, a quad-core Amlogic T962 64-bit processor, and supports connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4/5 GHz dual band Wi-Fi), Bluetooth 4.2, Dolby, and DTS Audio.

Xiaomi India teased the launch of a new series of its smart TV on its Twitter feed. Notably, the Chinese company received a massive response on the debut of its first Mi TV, which reportedly went out of stock within 10 seconds.

A Twitter user Ishan Aggarwal posted the listings of official Xiaomi site Mi.com that showed two Mi TV 4A models – 32-inch and 43-inch. The listing, however, seems to be taken down now. The listing revealed the Mi TV 4 32-inch series would start as low as Rs 12999. The other TV is not named but is listed at a price of Rs 21,999.
However, the source code revealed this as the 43-inch Mi TV 4A. Xiaomi Launches “World’s Thinnest” 4K LED Television in India at Rs.39,999
At the CES 2017, Xiaomi launched the Android TV based setup-box called Mi Box in the U.S. However, the company hasn’t launched the Mi Box in India, its largest market outside of its home country. Interestingly, the company now launched the 55-inch premium Mi LED Smart TV 4 alongside the Red Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones.
The Mi TV 4 measures just 4.9mm thick and the company claims it to be the world’s thinnest LED TV. Unlike the Mi Box, the Mi TV comes with the newly launched in-house PatchWall UI. However, the company has made certain tweaks to suit the Indian audience and is offering few premium services for free for a certain period.
The Mi Remote which comes with Mi TV 4 lacks the voice input but comes with other advanced features. The two 8W speakers with Dolby+ DTS quality onboard the Mi TV 4 are reasonably louder for watching TV. The Mi TV 4 comes with a 55-inch 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) panel that also supports HDR playback. It offers 60Hz refresh rate and 178-degree clear view. It is powered by 64-bit Amlogic T968 quad-core processor with Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and Mali T830 MP2 GPU.
There is 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. On the connectivity front, the Mi TV 4 comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 3 HDMI 2.0 port, 1 USB 2.0 port, and 1 USB 3.0 port.
Unlike smartphones, specifications don’t matter much while purchasing TVs. While the major brands like Sony and Samsung still rule the premium TV market, the online brands like VU and TCL are offering decent products at much lower cost.
