Vodafone RED Rs. 399 Plan Now Offers 30GB Data, Unlimited Calls, and More
Taking on Jio and Airtel, Vodafone India has updated its a new RED plan for its postpaid subscribers. The new Vodafone plan, priced at Rs. 399, offers benefits such as unlimited local and STD calls, national roaming, 100 SMSes, and 30GB 3G/ 4G monthly data (with rollover option up to 200GB). There is also free access to movies worth Rs. 4,000 via Vodafone Play service for 1 year and bundled Magzter subscription to provide a vast collection of over 3,500 e-magazines for 4 months.
Just like other plans and packs, the unlimited local and STD calls with the new Rs. 399 Vodafone RED plan are capped at 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week. The plan also includes Vodafone RED Shield that is a device insurance offering which is claimed to protect your smartphone from damage and theft. Initially, Vodafone RED subscribers can avail the Rs. 399 plan by dialing 199 from their mobile handsets.
The official Vodafone site in the country is yet to be updated with the new plan details. Moreover, the new plan is currently not available in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh circles. In last November, Vodafone launched the RED Basic plan for its postpaid subscribers at Rs. 399 with primary benefits, including unlimited local and STD calls, free incoming on national roaming, 10GB data, and data roll over. It also didn't come with additional offerings such as Vodafone Play and Magazter subscriptions. The telco lately upgraded that same plan with a 20GB data limit. The new Vodafone plan gives the company a better positioning in the lucrative postpaid market.
Jio customers get 30GB of 4G data at 1GB per day with the Rs. 309 postpaid plan; those looking for plans without a daily cap can go for the Rs. 409 plan with 20GB data allocation. Airtel, on the other hand, offers 20GB data per 30-day billing cycle with its Rs. 399 myInfinity postpaid plan.

Vodafone, Airtel & Idea ‘Plans’ To Counter Jio’s Rs 49 Plan!
Last week Reliance Jio announced an all-new Rs. 49/- plan as a part of its Republic Day offer. The plan offers unlimited data with 1GB of high-speed data and unlimited call benefits for 28 days at the lowest rate in India (as of February 1, 2018).
Alongside the Rs. 49/- plan, the company also launched affordable data add-ons at Rs. 11/-, Rs. 21/-, Rs. 5/-1 and Rs. 101/- for Jio Phone users. Jio had announced its 4G VoLTE-enabled Jio Phone last year. It is available at an effective price of Rs. 0/-.
Jio’s Predatory Rs 49 Plan The launch of Jio’s new Rs 49 plan came as a big blow for Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. Now, these telecom operators will be releasing similar plans to compete with Jio’s low-cost plan. As per industry sources, these telecom operators are planning to unveil some attractively priced tariff plans with mobile data bundled with voice calling, exclusively for feature phone users. The feature phone market primarily consists of voice on 2G, which accounts for around 65-70% of India’s billion-plus mobile user base and 50% of telecom sector revenues. The feature phone segment plays a critical role for India’s older operators Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL and others, who want to prevent users migrating to the newer entrant, Jio.
Other Telecom Operators Are Worried The Jio’s Rs. 49 per month plan offers the sector’s lowest price plan possible with free voice-calling for life and unlimited data, which includes 1GB of high-speed data, over a period of 28 days. The new plan could help the newest mobile carrier to eat into the feature phone market of incumbents who currently dominate the 2G market and rural markets unless the companies come up with similar aggressive plans.
Already the Jio Phone has captured 27% of the feature phone market in India and recently toppled Samsung to become the feature phone segment leader.
Jio’s Rs. 49 Plan Forcing Airtel, Vodafone & Idea For VoLTE-based 4G The telecom sector in the country is engaged in a fierce price competition. The cut in the interconnect rates have compounded the pressure on voice and data businesses amid continuing price wars. Kotak Securities has said that Jio’s new pricing moves target to add millions of 2G feature phone customers from the incumbent carriers, and this would would further damage their already weak financials.
This would force the operators to take tough calls like shutting down their 2G and 3G networks ahead of the current plans and would force the other telcos to roll out VoLTE based 4G networks on a war footing. The latest price move by Jio will intensify the competition even further in the telecom space.

Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra: Vodafone’s Bundled Smartphone For Rs. 999!
After BSNL, Micromax has now partnered with Vodafone to launch Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra 4G Smartphone at an effective price of Rs. 999/-. At present, Bharat 2 Ultra is possibly the lowest priced 4G smartphone in the market, among all the offerings.
Micromax had a major share in the smartphone market a few years back, which it lost to its Chinese counterparts. The domestic handset maker is desperate to take back its place among the top five smartphone makers by the end of the year, and is leaving no stone unturned.
Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra: Vodafone’s Bundled 4G Smartphone
The Bharat 2 Ultra from Micromax will be a Vodafone exclusive, bundled with calling and data plans from the telecom operator. The effective price of the device will be Rs. 999/- as customers who buy this smartphone will get cashback over a period of three years, bringing down the price from Rs. 2,899/- to Rs. 999/-.

How Will It Work?
All the existing, and new, Vodafone customers will have to buy the Bharat 2 Ultra at at Rs.2,899/-. After that, they have to do a recharge of at least Rs. 150/- per month for the next three years. At the end of 18 months, users will get a cashback of Rs. 900/- and after the next 18 months, they will get a cashback of Rs. 1,000/-. The cashback will be added to their Vodafone M-Pesa wallets. The cashback can then be used in digital transactions or can be withdrawn as cash from the nearest Vodafone M-Pesa retailer.

Micromax And Vodafone Partnership – The Advantage
This partnership will give both companies an advantage. The domestic handset maker will add more volume to their sales, while the carrier will add more customers. Micromax wants to take the fight to its Chinese rivals. Vodafone wants to one-up Jio and Airtel. While Jio has it’s own 4G feature phone, Airtel has recently partnered with Karbonn Mobiles to launch their own bundled 4G smartphone. With Micromax and Vodafone partnering, this will provide both the companies a major boost in their quest for market supremacy.

Micromax Banking On BSNL And Vodafone
Micromax has recently tied up with BSNL to launch their bundled Bharat 1 4G Feature Phone. The tie-up with state run telco, BSNL, will help them to penetrate deeper into the 530 million feature phone user market. Micromax has both, a 4G Feature Phone with BSNL (Bharat 1) and a 4G Smartphone With Vodafone (Bharat 2 Ultra). It is hoping to benefit from both these trends – if a feature phone user moves to smartphone or if a user decides to stick to the feature phone. Micromax already stands at the third position when it comes to feature phones (by volume) after Samsung and Intex.

Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra – Features And Specifications
Let us take a closer look at the specifications of Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra and see what we will be getting at an effective price of Rs. 999/-.

Display
The smartphone will come with a 4 inch WVGA display with a screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

Hardware
Under the hood, the Bharat 2 Ultra will be powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Spreadtrum SC9832 processor coupled with 512MB of RAM.

Software
The Bharat 2 Ultra is expected to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Storage
The smartphone will be equipped with 4GB of on-board storage which can be further expanded up to 32GB with an external memory card.

Camera
Coming to optics, the Bharat 2 Ultra has a 2 megapixel primary camera at the back and a 0.3 megapixel selfie shooter. The camera app offers different shooting modes like scene, frame, burst and so on.

SIM Support
Bharat 2 Ultra is a dual SIM (GSM + GSM) smartphone. It will not be locked to Vodafone network and can be used with other SIM cards as well. It accepts a Micro SIM and a Regular SIM.

Connectivity
The smartphone includes most of the connectivity options including Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, headphone jack, FM and 4G with support for Band 40 LTE networks in India.

Media Support
It will support full video viewing for a better media experience, with all social networking and chat apps on board, which will offer a complete smartphone experience.

Battery
Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra will house a 1300 mAh non-removable battery which is expected to offer a decent battery life.

With specifications which are at par with its cost, the main attraction here is the cashback offer and the no network lock. The cashback significantly lowers the effective price of the phone. Will you buy this latest bundle from Vodafone? Do let us know in the comments below.

Jio Test Users Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Use Commercial Services – Say Airtel And VodafoneReliance Jio has proved to be the greatest disruptor in the history of Indian Telecom industry. Other telecom operators were caught napping when Jio announced their tariff plans.
At launch, users were being offered services at effective zero cost. Reliance roped in their employees and their family members to be the test users by giving away free SIM cards.
They commenced their commercial operations in India in September 2016. But, it had started test services for its employees in December 2015.

Since its commercial launch, Reliance Jio has managed to garner a subscriber base of 100 million as of February 2017, within 6 months of its launch.

Vodafone and Bharti Airtel, have raised the issue of Jio’s test subscribers at an open house discussion which happened yesterday.

Acquiring Users Under Testing Phase Is Against License Conditions
This is what Vodafone has to say in this matter. The executive vice president, policy and regulation, at Vodafone India, Sandeep Kathuria has reiterated the fact that TRAI had raised the issue of compliance with DoT over the five lakh SIM cards issued by Jio.

“When the issue of acquiring subscribers in the garb of test users was raised by Vodafone last year, the same was dismissed by TRAI. However, it is now being discussed as if there was no clarity on the subject,” said Mr. Kathuria.
Bharti Airtel’s chief regulatory officer, Ravi Gandhi raised objections regarding test users being allowed to migrate to commercial services.
“There should not be subscriber acquisition in the name of testing, and there should be a time-limit for a network trial service,” said Mr. Gandhi.

Reliance Jio’s Counter-Argument
Reliance Jio has taken the stance that, Jio being India’s first LTE-only network, it had to do extensive testing before rolling out services commercially to customers.

This was however refuted by Ravi Gandhi from Bharti Airtel, who highlighted the fact that Airtel was the first to launch 4G LTE services in India, back in 2012.

In Conclusion…
Since its launch, Jio has proved to be a juggernaut which has forced other telecom operators to lower their tariffs in order to compete with Jio’s offerings. Thanks to the Jio effect, Indian mobile users are enjoying some of the cheapest tariff rates in the world.

Just when things seemed to be settling down between Jio and other operators, this fresh salvo has re-ignited the feud which seems to be going nowhere in a hurry.

Yet again, TRAI is in the spotlight. It is going be interesting to see how TRAI responds to these latest demands without upsetting the subscribers who are in danger of being victimized in this latest battle for market share.

Mobile Number Portability Will Get Easier, TRAI’s New ProposalMobile number portability or MNP is one of the most important pillars for creating a transparent and flexible telecom eco-system in India. Consumers should be able to switch to the carrier they prefer, rather than get stuck with their existing ones, without having to change their numbers.
However, there are few existing rules and regulations, which makes the whole process quite tedious, and time-taking. And precisely this the reason that Telecom Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed new guidelines for the same.
TRAI is clear on this issue: they want the whole MNP process to be easy, swift and seamless; and it seems that they are taking the right steps for ensuring that.

TRAI Wants To Reduce Mobile Number Portability Rejections
As per TRAI, around 40% of MNP requests are rejected, due to a technical issue related to Unique Porting Code (UPC). During the MNP process, if the UPC mismatches at the Point of Sales counter, then MNP is rejected.

Under the new proposal, TRAI has proposed that the whole process of UPC matching be made automatic, instead of manual, thereby rectifying 40% of all MNP cases.

This is what happens currently: Suppose a user of Idea wants to port out to Jio. Idea, the donor operator, will generate a 8-digit code called Unique Porting Code (UPC), which is provided to Jio, who is the receiving operator.

As the process of entering UPC is manual, the codes often mismatch, thereby rejecting the MNP process.

Proposed Changes Will Reduce MNP Rejections
Under the new proposal, the donor operator will now send the UPC to a MNP Clearing House. At the time of porting, the receiving operator will have to send a request to the MNP Clearing House for verifying UPC.

Hence, expiry date and UPC code will be now automatically verified, instead of manually entering, thereby eliminating rejections.

Besides UPC code, several other relevant information would be also sent to the MNP Clearinghouse automatically, thereby automating the whole process.
TRAI said, “The draft amendment also propose to make provision to transmit the relevant information viz. date of the bill, amount outstanding, last date of payment, date of the notice and period of notice given to the subscriber by Donor Operator through the MNP Clearing House.”
TRAI also wants to remove the mandatory lock-in period of 90 days for MNP, in case a telco shuts down their services.

Users and general public are requested to send in their feedbacks at advmn@trai.gov.in with a copy to trai.mn@gmail.com on/before August 31, 2017, related to the MNP reformation proposal by TRAI.
