The final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will take place at Kennington Oval, London. It will be a day game with 03:00 PM (IST) start.

The eight edition of ICC Champions Trophy will be held in England and Wales from 1-18 June. Champions Trophy is also known as the ‘Mini World Cup’ and features top eight ranked One-Day International (ODI) teams. 30 September 2015 was the cut-off date for qualification for ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The first two editions (1998 and 2000) of ICC Champions Trophy were known as ICC KnockOut Trophy.

The eight teams have been divided into two groups of four each. Group A consists of Australia, Bangladesh, hosts England and New Zealand. Group B features defending champions India, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh replaced West Indies after they failed to qualify. This will be for the first time that West Indies will miss the Champions Trophy. On the other hand, CT 17 sees the return of Bangladesh to the tournament for the first time since 2006 edition.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be played across three venues, Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Edgbaston in Birmingham and Kennington Oval in London. A total of 15 matches will be played during the tournament, including semi-finals and final. The summit clash will take place on 18 June at Kennington Oval in London.

Top two teams after the league stage will advance to semi-finals. The topper of Group A will face second spot holder of Group B in the first Semi-final at Sophia Gardens. In second semi-final at Edgbaston, topper of Group B will take on the second-placed team in Group A. Each team will play three matches in the league stage. 

India comes into the tournament as defending champions. Team India led by MS Dhoni defeated England in the finals of ICC Champions Trophy 2013. It was India’s second ICC Champions Trophy title after sharing the previous title with Sri Lanka in 2002.

South Africa won the inaugural ICC Champions Trophy in 1998 defeating West Indies in the final. In the second edition, in 2000, New Zealand emerged victorious after beating India. In 2004 West Indies won the title for the first time. 2006 edition saw Australia lift the trophy. Australia then successfully defended the title in 2009. England and Pakistan remain the only major Test-playing nations to have not won the ICC Champions Trophy.

Initially, it was decided that after the 2013 edition the ICC Champions Trophy will be scrapped, but the tournament was successful and thus was retained. The continuation of ICC Champions Trophy meant that proposed World Test Championship in 2017 had to be scrapped. However, there are reports that the tournament will be abandoned in future after the 2021 edition.
