8GB RAM Android Smartphones

8GB RAM Android Smartphones
The Android smartphone manufacturers always try their best to optimize the OS to suit their hardware. Apart from very few manufacturers, most of the others also have the in-house UI to differentiate themselves from others. With the heavy animations and features like split-screen multitasking and virtual reality, the devices also need more RAM to offer a seamless experience. Here is where the manufacturers are adding more and more RAM to satisfy the needs of the OS. While the majority of the computers and laptops are maxed out at 8GB RAM, it became common to expect 8GB of RAM on the new flagship Android smartphones. Below is the list of all the 8GB RAM smartphones launched in 2017.
• Asus Zenfone AR After Lenovo, Google collaborated with Asus to launch the second Tango phone. It is called as Asus Zenfone AR and was first unveiled at the CES 2017. The device is first to support both Tango and DayDream. It is even the first smartphone to feature 8GB of RAM. However, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. Asus also included the advanced vapor cooling system to avoid overheating issues. The TriCam system on the Zenfone AR features a 23MP IMX318 sensor along with motion tracking and depth sensing sensors. Almost seven months after unveiling the device, Asus launched it exclusively on Flipkart in India in July. The Zenfone AR with 8GB RAM & 128GB of storage is priced at Rs. 49,999.
• OnePlus 5
In June this year, OnePlus 5 debuted the smartphone market with several first of its kind feature on a OnePlus smartphone. More than Zenfone AR, we feel Oneplus 5 is the first consumer smartphone to pack 8GB of RAM. The device came in 6GB & 8GB RAM variants with 64GB and 128GB of internal storage respectively. Unlike Zenfone AR, the Oneplus 5 is a too mainstream device. It is also one of the most affordable smartphones with Snapdragon 835 chipset. The OnePlus 5 comes with a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. The company also introduced the dual camera setup with 2X optical zoom. It is backed by a 3,300mAh battery and supports 5V/4A (20W) Dash Charge technology.
• Nubia Z17 ZTE’s Nubia launched the Nubia Z17 as the successor to last year’s Nubia Z11. It packs Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor coupled with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. This also the first Nubia smartphone to come with IP certification making it both water and dust resistant. It comes with a 5.5-inch two-sided bezel-less display with FiT 3.0 (Frame Interactive Technology) support. The Nubia Z17 also came with Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology, that can charge the 3,200mAh battery on this device from 0% to 50% in just 25 minutes. There is no 3.5mm audio jack on this device, but the package includes a 3.5mm to USB Type-C adapter. The availability of the smartphone is only limited to China, but there are few Chinese resellers who are shipping it for free across the globe.
• Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 The new Mi MIX 2 is the refined version of the original Mi MIX. The device comes with an 18:9 Full HD+ LCD display and packs the top-notch hardware. Compared to the Mi MIX, the new Mi MIX 2 comes with very thin bezels around the display. The Mi MIX 2 uses the metal frame instead of the ceramic frame as seen on its predecessor. Xiaomi launched the Mi MIX 2 with 6GB in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage variants. However, there is also a special edition Mi MIX 2 with the full ceramic body and 8GB of RAM. The availability of the 8GB RAM variant of Mi MIX 2 is currently limited to China. In India, the company only launched the 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of onboard storage for Rs. 35,999. It is exclusively sold through Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores.
• Nubia Z17S The Nubia Z17S is upgraded version of the Nubia Z17 featuring the new 18:9 display. Unlike the Nubia Z17, the Z17S comes with a 3D glass back body. It comes with a 5.73-inch LTPS display with Full HD+ (2040×1080 pixels) and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The Nubia Z17S will also be available in 6GB & 8GB RAM variants. Apart from the dual rear cameras as seen on Nubia Z17, the new Nubia Z17S also sports dual 5MP selfie cameras. It also comes equipped with a dedicated TAS2555 amplifier for Hi-Fi audio output. The device runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat based Nubia UI 5.1 out of the box. With minimal bezels on the front, the fingerprint sensor is now moved on to the rear of the device. As of now, the Nubia Z17S is also limited to the Chinese market.
• Archos Diamond Omega Archos usually rebrands the smartphones from the Chinese brands and sells them in the selected European markets. The Archos Diamond Omega is the company’s latest flagship smartphone. It is actually the same Nubia Z17S that we talked earlier. It even comes with the Nubia UI 5.0 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. Unlike Nubia Z17S, the Archos Diamond Omega comes only in 8GB RAM variant. It comes with the same 18:9 Full HD+ display & dual cameras on the front and rear. The smartphone is priced at EUR 499.99 (approx $590 / Rs. 38,330) and is sold in few European markets. Apart from the Archos branding, the Diamond Omega is the same Nubia Z17S sold in China.
• Razer Phone In 2017, Razer entered the smartphone market by launching the gaming-centric Razer Phone. This new device has taken a bit of inspiration from the Robin from Nextbit, which Razer acquired earlier this year. The company went ahead and included the top-notch hardware. The Razer Phone packs Snapdragon 835 SoC, 8GB of RAM, and 64GB of expandable storage. It also sports a 120Hz UltraMotion display with Quad HD resolution. The smartphone also comes equipped with stereo front-facing speakers with dual amplifiers. With all these specifications, the device is backed by a 4,000mAh lithium-ion battery and supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 4+ technology. There is also a 12MP dual camera setup on the rear and an 8MP selfie camera on the front.
• OnePlus 5T In less than five months after launching the OnePlus 5, the company launched the OnePlus 5T as its successor. OnePlus also priced the OnePlus 5T same as its successor. The new OnePlus 5T sports a 6.01-inch Full Optic AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Apart from the display, the company also replaced the 20MP IMX350 Telephoto sensor with the regular 20MP IMX376K sensor for better low-light photography. Rest of the specifications remain same on both these devices. With the OnePlus 5T, the company also introduced the new Face Unlock security feature. Without the physical home button, the OnePlus 5T comes with on-screen navigation buttons along with rear-facing fingerprint sensor. Both the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are said to receive Android 8.0 Oreo-based Oxygen OS 5.0 update in early 2018.
