These waterproof smartphones will survive the Holi splash

The festival of colours Holi is round the corner! With Pichkaris and balloons part of the festivities, it's important to ensure that your gadgets and gizmos don't become a casualty, dampening the festive spirit. However, if you have any of the following smartphones, don’t sweat as these are completely waterproof. Most smartphones listed below come with IP67 rating which makes them withstand submersion in static water up to 1m (3.3 feet) for 30 minutes. They are also fully protected from dust and dirt. The remaining have higher rating of IP68, which makes them withstand submersion into 1.5m (5 feet) water up to 30 minutes. Read to know if your smartphone will survive the Holi splash (and fall) this year:
1. Apple iPhone X - starting Rs 95,390 The special tenth-anniversary edition iPhone, the iPhone X has been rated IP67 under IEC standard 60529 and is therefore splash, water and dust resistant. In terms of specifications, the iPhone X has a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display and is powered by A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture chipset.
2. Samsung Galaxy S9 (Price to be announced) The latest Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone is rated IP68. The chaebol claims it to last submersion in up to 1.5 meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. The highlight of the S9 is the Dual Aperture lens -- from F1.5 to F2.4 modes -- that automatically switches depending on various lighting conditions.
3. Samsung Galaxy S9+ (Price to be announced) The bigger of the Samsung flagship series smartphones, the Galaxy S9+ comes with IP68 rating and is said to last for 30 minutes with complete submersion in 1.5 meters water. Just like the S9, the S9+ also has the Dual Aperture lens, but additionally has a 12MP camera with 2X telephoto lens for zooming.
4. Apple iPhone 8 Plus - starting price Rs 77,560 The bigger screen variant of the iPhone 8 is also the IP67 rated same as the other two iPhones from the 2017 line-up. This device sports a 5.5-inch Retina HD LCD display and is powered by A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture. It has a 12MP dual rear camera setup and shares the front camera with the iPhone 8.
5. Google Pixel 2 - Rs 49,999 The second-generation Google Pixel has been rated IP67 under IEC standard 60529, meaning it is water and dust resistant. In terms of specs, the device has a 5-inch full-HD AMOLED 2.5D display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and runs octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB LPDDR4X RAM.
6. Apple iPhone 8 - starting price Rs 67,940 The least expensive iPhone of the latest generation iPhones is also splash, water and dust resistant as it is also rated IP67. The handset 4.7-inch Retina HD display LCD display and sports a single 12MP rear camera with OIS. On the front it has a 7MP camera with AIS and Auto HDR.
7. Google Pixel 2 XL - Rs 59,999 Launched along with the Pixel 2, the Pixel 2 XL is the bigger screen variant of the latest Pixel series and has the same water resistant IP67 rating. In terms of specs, it features a 6-inch QHD+ P-OLED display along with 18:9 aspect ratio.
8. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - Rs 67,900 The flagship phablet from the South Korean tech giant Samsung, the Galaxy Note 8, is water and dust resistant as it comes with IP68 rating. In terms of specs, the handset has a 6.3-inch edge-to-edge screen and comes powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 6GB RAM.
9. HTC U11 - Rs 51,990 The HTC U11 has an IP67 rating and is therefore dust, splash and water resistant up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The USP of the smartphone is its EdgeSense technology and ‘squeezable’ side bezels. These sensors are integrated with the Edge Sense and lets users long press to launch any app. The feature can be customised inside the settings.
10. LG G6 - Rs 41,990 With an IP68 rating, the LG G6 is also both dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. It sports a 5.7-inch 'FullVision' display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM.
11. Samsung Galaxy S8 - Rs 53,900 Samsung's last year's flagship smartphone is rated IP68 and is claimed to resist dust and water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. In terms of specs, the handset sports a 5.8-inch QuadHD+ display with octa-core Exynos Series 9 processor.
12. Samsung Galaxy S8+ - Rs 58,900 The bigger variant is also IP68 rated just like the S8 and boasts of a 6.2-inch QuadHD+ display. It has the same processor and sports the 12MP camera on the back and an 8MP camera on the front.
13. Sony Xperia XZ Premium - Rs 56,900 As per Sony's website, the Xperia XZ Premium has been rated IP65/68. The handset is claimed to be dust resistant and capable to withstand low-pressure water jet spray under 1 meter water for at least 3 minutes. The handset sports a 5.5-inch 4K IPS LCD display and has a 19MP rear camera with OIS, PDAF and LED flash.
14. Apple iPhone 7 Plus - starting price Rs 62,840 The iPhone 7 Plus has been rated IP67 under IEC standard 60529 and is splash, water and dust resistant. In terms of specs, it has a 5.5-inch Retina HD display and is powered by A10 Fusion chip with 64-bit architecture.
15. Apple iPhone 7 - starting price Rs 52,370 Launched along with the iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone 7 too has the same IP67 rating and was the first iPhone to be water resistant. It has a 4.7-inch Retina HD LCD display. It sports a 12MP rear camera and a 7MP front facing camera.
16. LG V30+ - Rs 44,990 The V30+ smartphone has IP68-water and dust resistance. Not only that, this device is also claimed to have passed 14 US military tests, granting it US MIL-STD 810G compliant. It has a 6-inch Full Vision QHD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, it offers 4GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage.
17. Samsung Galaxy S7 - Rs 33,250 Samsung Galaxy S7 is the South Korean tech giant Samsung's 2016 flagship smartphone. The handset has a 5.1-inch Quad HD display and is powered by Exynos 8890 octa core processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal memory.
18. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - starting Rs 35,900 The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was launched along with the Samsung Galaxy S7. The dual-curve display featuring handset also comes with IP68 certification that saves it from water for 30 minutes up to 1.5 metre depth.
19. Samsung Galaxy A8+ - Rs 32,990 The first Galaxy A-series smartphone of the year 2018 boasts of an IP68 rating, making the device dust and water resistant. It is the first Samsung smartphone to come with dual front camera setup comprising of a 16MP primary module and an 8MP secondary module. The handset features a 6-inch FHD Super AMOLED Infinity Display and is powered by octa-core Exynos 7885 processor.
20. Samsung Galaxy A5 - Rs 24,500 The Samsung Galaxy A5 is IP68 certified making it dust and water-resistant. It has a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.9GHz octa-core Exynos 7880 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.
21. Samsung Galaxy A7 - Rs Rs 33,490 The Galaxy A7 too has the IP 68 certification, meaning it can withstand 1 meter water for a maximum of half-an-hour. In terms of specs, it 5.7-inch screen and packs in the same processor as the A5.
