Alongside the Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphone with better hardware. While the Redmi Note 5 is the same Redmi 5 Plus launched in China, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a completely new device. Though there are few similarities between the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, this new device has scored the worthy changes. The dual camera placement on the rear looks similar to the Apple iPhone X.
This new smartphone comes with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio and rounded corners. Under the hood is the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform with custom Kryo 260 cores.
However, it comes coupled with the same old Adreno 506 GPU which is also offered with the Snapdragon 625. While the 3GB RAM variant comes with 32GB of onboard storage, the 4GB and 6GB RAM variants offer 64GB of internal storage.
Compared to the mediocre cameras on the Redmi Note 5, the Redmi Note 5 Pro actually offers pretty good cameras. The iPhone X-like dual camera setup on the rear sports 12MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture. It comes with EIS, PDAF, and LED flash. On the front is a whopping 20MP Sony IMX376 camera for capturing beautiful selfies. Vivo V5 launched in 2016 also came with the same 20MP Sony IMX376 camera.
Both the front and rear cameras on the Redmi Note 5 Pro offers the portrait mode for capturing photos with blurred background. The smartphone runs on Android Nougat based MIUI 9 out of the box. As seen on the Redmi Note 5, the Pro variant is also backed by the same 4,000mAh non-removable battery with 5V/2A (10W) fast charging support. Apart from the fingerprint sensor, Xiaomi is also offering Face Unlock for authenticating the device.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro measures 158.6 x 75.4 x 8.05 mm and weighs 181 grams. Coming to the pricing, the Redmi Note 5 Pro with 4GB and 6GB RAM is priced at Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 16,999 respectively. It will be sold via Flipkart, Mi.com, Mi Home stores, and Mi Preferred Partners.
