After almost 20 years, actor Salman Khan has been found guilty of poaching two blackbucks in 1998. Khan has been sentenced to five years in jail and fined Rs 10,000. Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre have been acquitted in the case. The Bishnoi community welcomed the judgment and said that it would appeal against the acquittal of four other actors.
Bollywood film industry and Khan's fans, meanwhile, expressed their shock over the verdict. "The accused is a popular actor whose deeds are followed by people. Despite this, the accused hunted two blackbucks," Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri said in his written judgment.
