Snapdragon 636-Powered Asus ZenFone Max Pro to Launch in India on April 23
Taiwanese smartphone brand, Asus today announced its a long-term strategic partnership with Flipkart, under which the e-commerce portal will be selling all the Asus smartphones going forward. Asus says that the partnership not only covers sales and marketing of products by Flipkart but will also include three points.
The first one is Flipkart will be the primary sales channel for Asus Zenfones; Secondly, both companies will collaborate in the co-creation of new products for the Indian market based on consumer insights and lastly, on the marketing front, both companies will extensively support each other in the planning and execution of marketing activities for the Asus Zenfones. Under the partnership, Asus is all set to debut its first smartphone for 2018 in India- the Asus Zenfone Max Pro, which will feature the Snapdragon 636 SoC. The Asus ZenFone Max Pro will be launched in India on April 23, and the smartphone is expected to be priced aggressively so that it will compete with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Besides the chipset, there are not many details available about the smartphone and being a Global Debut in India, there are not many leaks about the device as well. If you recall, Asus was the first smartphone brand to start this aggressive pricing strategy in the Indian market with the same Zenfone 5 series of phones back in 2014, but the company moved away from the aggressive pricing strategy after gaining a particular amount of market share in the country. However, with the resurgence of Xiaomi, Asus’ name has faded away in the Indian market, but the company is again looking to change its fortunes this year.
And to beat Xiaomi in the country, Asus has to go with aggressive pricing strategy. It will be interesting to see how the brand prices the ZenFone Max Pro in India because the Note 5 Pro starts at Rs 13,999. If Asus manages to keep enough stocks of the device and keep the pricing low, then the device will stand a chance against the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Asus Zenfone 5: First Impressions
The Mobile World Congress 2018 conference is still a couple of days away from concluding and we have already seen some of the most powerful smartphones of the year. Although brands like Samsung, LG, Sony and HMD are already out with their best offerings, Asus is one such brand that was yet to showcase its smartphones.
The Taiwanese tech firm, following the tradition, has this time unveiled what it calls is its most powerful mobile device for 2018 -Zenfone 5Z. However, alongside the 5Z the company also debuted the Zenfone 5 , which is essentially the same in design but with sligthly less powerful innards. Gadgets Now got some time to spend with the Asus Zenfone 5, which now has a new design and a better display than ever before. The handset is confirmed to hit the Indian shelves sometime this year.
Until that happens, here’s our first impressions of the Asus Zenfone 5, giving you a fair idea of what the smartphone-maker has in store for its fans. If you are familiar with Asus’ Zenfone lineup, it would only take you seconds to realise that the Zenfone 5’s design is a massive take off from that of the Zenfone 4 series or even the Zenfone 3. It is more block-shaped this time giving a better grip. Many may say it looks like the Apple iPhone X but then Asus tells us that even with a ‘notch’ at the top of the screen and the vertical rear camera setup, it has delivered an even better mobile device than the iPhone X. The Zenfone 5’s 6.2-inch canvas seemed the most impressive among everything else in the limited time we spent with the smartphone.
The screen shows content in full HD+ resolution and is also arguably world’s first to sport 19:9 aspect ratio display. For reference, the Galaxy S9 has 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The Zenfone 5’s IPS display reproduces content impressively and the so-called ‘notch’ is smaller than that of the iPhone X , showing tad bit more information than the Apple’s flagship. Running Android 8.0 Oreo (ZenUI 5.0), the smartphone’s UI is cleaner now. The notification tray, camera UI and everything else is implemented keeping the ‘notch’ in focus.
The executives told Gadgets Now that they have worked hard on removing the number of preloaded apps on the smartphone, something we have been complaining about in almost all our Zenfone reviews. The preloaded apps have gone down to just nine this time. We even got a glimpse of the smartphone’s AI capabilities. The executives say that this time Asus has given special attention to AI and has integrated it even deeper than before. Most of the AI features are designed to work offline as well, something that for now sounds impressive if nothing else. Of course, you’ll get Google Assistant for everything else.
Since we were with the Zenfone 5 for a limited time, nothing much can be said about its processor performance or the battery performance. But in case you are wondering, the Asus Zenfone 5 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, while its more powerful variant, the Zenfone 5Z runs on the Snapdragon 845. The former comes in 4GB or 6GB RAM variant clubbed with 64GB inbuilt storage, while the latter only comes with 8GB RAM in tow along with 256GB inbuilt storage.
As for the battery, both the Zenfone 5 and the 5Z use a 3300mAh battery. Besides the inbuilt storage, RAM and processor, everything else stays the same in both the handsets. The camera is another factor in the new Zenfone lineup that is being marketed heavily. The Zenfone 5 smartphones boast of a dual rear camera. One is the 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with f/1.8 aperture while the other one has a 120-degree wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture.
Selfie lovers get an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. Not only you get sharp shots courtesy the 3-axis sensor but now you can also shoot 4K videos at 60fps. To make Zenfone 5 a complete multimedia smartphone, Asus says it has worked on the speakers too. The company, which until the Zenfone 4 series didn’t give much attention to the audio, has this time used a dual 5-magnet speaker with NXP amplifiers to make your Netflix watching experience better.
So, if we were to tell you in a few words how our first impressions have been about the Zenfone 5, we would simply say that the handset does have a potential to outdo its competition in the given segments. However, a lot of it depends on the price of the smartphone too. Asus in the past couple of years has tried its best to shed its image of a company that only makes budget devices. But looking at the prices of the Zenfone 3 Deluxe, which was above Rs 60,000, we are keeping fingers crossed on this one.
Pricing the Zenfone 5 around Rs 25,000 would prove to be a threat to Motorola and mid-range Samsung Galaxy smartphones. The Zenfone 5Z, if priced between Rs 40,000-50,000 will give the Google Pixel 2, OnePlus and the Galaxy handsets a run for their money. Whatever may be the case, we will have wait and see if Asus gets all its moves right this time around.

Asus Zenfone 5’s AI features won’t reach older models, confirms executive
Asus this year has given limelight on the numerous custom AI features carried out by the new-launched Zenfone 5, Zenfone 5Z and the Zenfone 5 Lite . These artificial intelligence quirks are said to have been integrated into the Asus’ new ZenUI 5.0 version. The company even confirmed to Gadgets Now in an interview that most of these features are designed to work offline, making it less dependent on online connectivity.
If you are one of those Asus fans who is delighted to hear what the AI can do in the new handsets and is expecting it to reach your Zenfone as well, here’s some bad news.
In an interview, Asus India’s director of mobile product centre, Dinesh Sharma flat out said “No” when asked if these AI functions will be reaching older Zenfone smartphones. The custom AI features, as Sharma said, is made to enhance the overall productivity in the Zenfone 5 ( First Impressions ) series and later models. Sharma did not reveal why Asus took the decision though. There may be reasons like lack of hardware/software support or a strategy to make more users buy the Zenfone 5 models instead of the older versions.
Both make sense if you think about it. Whatever may be the case, Sharma did add that AI will be one of the most important factors in Asus smartphones going forward. The firm might bring these to future budget Zenfone devices as well.
Although depriving old Zenfone devices may put the Taiwan-based tech firm in a bad light, what may keep the hopes high for fans is the consistent OS updates for flagship devices, said Sharma. In addition, what adds as a plus point in this year’s Zenfone models is the reduced number of pre-installed apps, meaning slightly more spare storage space and less clutter than before. Asus has not yet revealed when it will be launching the new Zenfone 5 line up in India.

Asus to Launch Gaming Smartphone Along Side Zenfone 5, 5z & Max Pro M1
Asus has officially confirmed to unveil its next-gen smartphones at the MWC 2018. From the teaser image, we can confirm them to be the Zenfone 5 series devices. While we have seen leaks about the Zenfone 5 Lite and Zenfone 5 Max smartphones, now we got some details about the other Zenfone 5 smartphones. The company is said to launch only half the number of devices that we have seen in 2017.
Just yesterday, we have reported about the possible launch of gaming-centric smartphone from Xiaomi’s Black Shark. Now, Asus will also launch its own high-performance gaming smartphone. Just like Razer, Asus also has experience in making gaming laptops under the ROG brand.
As of now, there is not much information available about the Asus’s gaming smartphone. Instead of the Zenfone brand, we hope to see the company’s first ever gaming-centric smartphone under the ROG brand. Talking about the high-end Zenfone 5 smartphones, the company will be launching Zenfone 5, Zenfone Max Pro M1, and Zenfone 5z in the first half of 2018. All three devices will be offering dual cameras on the rear and 18:9 full-screen display on the front.
While the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone Max Pro M1 will go on sale in March, the Zenfone 5z will be coming later in June. The company will be unveiling these devices at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2018. Coming to specification, the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone Max Pro M1 will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core mobile platform with custom Kryo CPU and Adreno 509 GPU. On the other hand, the Zenfone 5z will be powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor.
All the Zenfone 5 smartphone will be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with custom Zen UI laid on top. The recent leaks revealed the Zenfone to come with iPhone X-like notch on the top. Looking at several leaks, the Zenfone 5 devices might come with metal frame and glass back body. Asus Zenfone 5 Lite With Full HD+ Display & Quad Cameras
Last month, the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite was spotted on the Russian certification website with the model number ZC600KL. Now, the first look and few other details of the Zenfone 5 Lite are leaked online. Asus already confirmed its presence at the MWC 2018. The teaser image posted on the company’s social media handles hints the launch of Zenfone 5 devices on the show floor. Asus might unveil the earlier leaked Zenfone 5(2018), Zenfone 5 Max, and Zenfone 5 Lite smartphones. Talking about the Zenfone 5 Lite, the smartphone will be coming with an 18:9 display with Full HD+ (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution.
Based on the earlier leaks, it might come with a 6-inch display covered with a 2.5D curved glass on the top. In the camera department, the smartphone will be offering 16MP dual rear cameras and 20MP dual front cameras. Both the front and rear cameras on this device come accompanied by a LED flash. The Zenfone 5 Lite will be the first Asus smartphone to offer quad camera setup. Honor and Gionee have already launched a couple of smartphone with dual cameras on the front and rear. From the image, the Zenfone 5 Lite seems to offer metal frame with glass back body. There is also a circular fingerprint sensor placed on the rear of the device. While the USB port and speakers are placed on the bottom edge, the 3.5mm audio jack is on the top edge.
On the right edge, we can spot the power button and volume rocker. Alongside the Zenfone 5 Lite, we also expect the other Zenfone 5 smartphones to offer 18:9 displays and dual cameras. Since the launch event is just a couple of weeks away, we might get more leaks in the coming days. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!

Asus ZenFone 5 Model With 18:9 Display, Dual Rear Cameras in Renders
Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer Asus is all set to launch its latest handsets at the MWC 2018. It is expected, at the event, Asus will announce the ZenFone 5 series of smartphones. The company has already released an invitation for its MWC conference that is scheduled for February 27. And ahead of the launch, diagrams of one of the upcoming ZenFone 5 models have surfaced online.
As per a report by Winfuture, several images captured from a manufacturer's manual showcase the upcoming ZenFone 5 handset bearing the model name X00PD. The leaked images suggest the ZenFone 5 will sport a 5 .7-inch bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a dual rear camera setup. The renders reveal a smartphone featuring minimal bezels at the top and bottom. Due to the thin bezels, the fingerprint scanner appear to be positioned at the back. Meanwhile, the top bezel seems to have a camera, sensors, an earpiece, and a notification light.
In the leaked images, Asus appears to have stayed with the headphone jack. However, the key change is that the dual-camera setup in the smartphone is now vertically placed, similar to the Apple iPhone X. Additionally, there is an LED light and a micro-USB port as well. Asus' official invitation hints the launch of the ZenFone 5 series as it comes with the #BACKTO5 hashtag. It also features a "We Love Photo" tag that was originally used at the time of launching the ZenFone 4 lineup in 2017. It is interesting to note that the model number ASUS X00QD had recently received a certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance. The smartphone is rumoured to be unveiled as the Asus ZenFone 5 Max, the successor of the last year's ZenFone 4 Max.
It runs Android 8.0 Oreo and comes with a dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi support, as per the certification. Additionally. Asus may also announce another model called ZenFone 5 Lite that recently received a certification in Russia. That handset is expected to feature a 6-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a Snapdragon SoC. As is the case with leaked renders, it is mere speculation and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Asus with officially make the announcements at the MWC 2018 keynote on February 27 (12am IST, February 28). Apart from Asus smartphones, other handsets that are expected at the event are: Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, Sony Xperia XZ Pro, and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S. Even Nokia is also expected to launch its latest range of Android-powered smartphones at the mega event.

Price and style often go hand in hand when shopping for a new laptop. In general, the more money you’re willing to plop down for a machine, the better it’s going to look and feel. As Asus highlights with its latest Ultrabook, however, that doesn’t always have to be the case.
The Asus VivoBook S is an affordable machine that looks way more appealing than its price point would suggest. It features a modest 15.6-inch matte display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 driven by either an Intel Core i5-7200U or Core i7-7500U processor, Intel HD graphics and 8GB (or up to 32GB) of RAM.
Asus launches the VivoBook S510, an Ultrabook for those on a budget
Local storage is handled by a 128GB M.2 SATA solid state drive and a 1TB 5,400 RPM hard drive although again, for a bit more coin, you can upgrade to a pair of 1TB SSDs (there’s also an SD card reader for easy expansion / file transfers).
Windows 10 comes standard, as does the 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 wireless connectivity and 42WHr, 3-cell li-ion battery. You also get a full complement of I/O ports including USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI and a combination audio jack.
What sets the system apart from most budget laptops is the beautiful brushed aluminum chassis and slim measurements. The VivoBook S measures 14.2 inches wide and 0.7 inches thick with a bezel of just 0.3 inches which Asus says affords an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio.
Pricing starts at just $699 (Core i5, 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive) although I’d highly recommend springing for a model with a solid state drive (starting at $799). Systems are available as of writing from several retailers including B&H and Newegg as well as directly from Asus .
