1. Allow calls from selected people : The 'Do not disturb' feature on your Android device comes with a "Priority only" mode, which lets you choose what exactly can and can't disturb you when you are in an important meeting, driving, watching a movie in a theatre or having a good night’s sleep. To activate this function, go to Settings > Sound > Do not disturb, and tap 'Priority only settings'. Here you can decide whether reminders and event alerts can go off in Priority mode. Tap 'Calls' to choose who can call you; the options include 'from anyone', 'from contacts only', 'from starred contacts only' or 'none'. You can also tap 'Messages' and choose from similar options. Another option is the 'Repeat Callers'; if enabled it allows a call to come through if the same person calls a second time within a 15-minute period.
2. Unlock the phone automatically when you are at home : Do you find it frustrating and futile to repeatedly unlock your device when you are in the safety and comfort of your home? This is where the 'Smart Lock' feature comes in handy. It uses GPS to automatically unlock your phone when you are at 'Trusted places'. Go to Settings> Security and tap on 'Smart Lock'. Now you can find multiple options: On-body detection, Trusted places, Trusted devices, Trusted face and Voice match. Simply tap on 'Trusted places' and input the place where you feel comfortable leaving your phone unlocked.
3. Opt out of personalised ads : Many find personalised ads a little creepy and intrusive. For example, if you search a particular TV model on Google, you start seeing ads of the product on your device. So, if you are concerned about your privacy then you can easily disable this function. Go to Settings> Google > Ads and enable 'Opt out of Ads Personalisation.' You will see a pop-up saying "You will still see ads, but they may not be based on your interests". Tap 'ok' and it's done.
4. Measure your heart rate : Here's how you can measure your heart rate with your Android phone. Go to Play tore and install 'Instant Heart Rate.' Open the app and place the tip of your index finger on your phone's camera lens. The app will take a few seconds before displaying your heart rate on the screen.
5. Screen magnifier : This feature is really beneficial to users with poor eyesight. Just go to Settings > Accessibility and tap Magnification gestures. Now you can zoom in on any part of the display by quickly tapping the screen three times with one finger, drag two or more fingers to scroll and pinch two or more fingers together or apart to adjust zoom.
6. Turn on Guest Mode : Don't want people to scan through the content of your phone when you lend them your device? Here's how to stop them. Before giving your device to a foreign user pull down the notifications drawer and tap on your avatar. Now you will see three options. Tap on the one that reads 'Add guest' and you'll switch to Guest Mode. Now the foreign user can't access your personal data such as messages or installed apps. When the device returns safely in your hands pull down the notifications bar and tap on 'Remove Guest'.
7. Access Chrome tabs from other devices : First you have to log into Chrome with your Gmail ID across all your devices. To do that open Chrome on your computer, click on three vertical lines on the top right corner and got to 'Settings'. You will see an option, 'Sign in to Chrome'. Click it to log in with your Gmail account. Now if you launch a new Chrome tab on your smartphone, you will see a 'Recent tabs' option when you hit three vertical dots. Here you will see the URLs that are open on your other logged-in devices.
8. Invert colours : This setting allows you to read at night without putting strain on your eyes. Just go to Settings, Accessibility and enable 'Colour inversion.'
