There is no stopping the 5G revolution, especially since everyone seems to be on board. From network operators to smartphone manufacturers to silicon makers, everyone seems to be hellbent on pushing the fifth generation cellular technology to businesses and consumers. With all the marketing and hype, there’s bound to be some confusion and questions. What is 5G, what is it for, and will really make our lives better? Here are some answers to those questions and more.

The trends are in, and we’ve got a pretty decent idea of the next big smartphones from device makers in 2019. The features you’re going to want to watch out for are only slightly different from what came in 2018 – and we’re pretty much set on what the phones will look like already. What’s it going to take for you to get a deal on a smartphone in 2019?

5G is coming: what you need to know

What is 5G?

Simply put, all that “5G” really means is that it’s the fifth generation wireless technology, following, well, 4G. Those two-character names have basically become the stand-ins for the actual technologies implemented with those standards, like CDMA, GSM, HSPA, UMTS, and, of course, LTE. In a nutshell, 5G involves utilizing higher frequency bands in order to support faster speeds, less latency, and more devices.

Naturally, the biggest advertised benefit of 5G is the speed. After all, a theoretical maximum speed of 20 Gbps is drool-worthy, especially when you compare that to 4G’s theoretical 2 Gbps (at least with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE modem). Even if 5G just ends up with a real-world 10 Gbps range, that’s still a huge leap forward and on par with the newest Wi-Fi 802.11ax specification.

But speed isn’t 5G’s only benefit. Low-latency communication is also a key factor with standards aiming for something as low as 1 ms. This is going to be critical not just for things like gaming but also for IoT and smart cars. 5G can also support more devices connected at once, again essential for the explosion of connected devices and vehicles, and with network slicing, different devices can have their own portion of the wireless spectrum which may be faster or slower, depending on their needs.

What are the drawbacks of 5G?

It definitely sounds good but there are trade offs. The higher-frequency bands that 5G requires, ranging from 3 to 30 to 300 GHz, can only travel short distances and are even more susceptible to interference from weather and objects. That is why carriers who want to implement the full power of 5G will have to put up more cellular antennas with shorter distances between them. On the flip side, they don’t have to be towering antennas like those used for 4G.

It’s because of this weakness of “millimeter wave” frequency that network operators are also implementing lower frequency “sub-6GHz” 5G, which is also supported by the standard. These frequencies are able to transmit data more reliably over longer distances but don’t achieve the high-speed promise of true 5G. In the near future, 5G networks will switch back and forth between these two until the technology reaches a point where there would be no need for compromises.

Will 5G replace broadband Wi-Fi?

The high-speed, low-latency features of 5G will naturally make consumers ask if this is the future of home broadband. The answers, admittedly, is “yes and no”. Wi-Fi is a separate standard which is advancing at a separate pace and is best used for different use cases. At the moment, the fastest Wi-Fi spec, 802.11ax, is just as fast as the measured 5G speed, around 10 Gbps. And considering its range and stability limitations, 5G is far from replacing Wi-Fi for now. You wouldn’t want your connection to be disrupted just because the weather changed.

As for broadband, in a way, Verizon’s much-advertised 5G rollout is technically broadband, not cellular, 5G and not everyone agrees it even qualifies as 5G. Network operators simply have to driver fiber optic cables to cell sites and then let small cell 5G radios relay the signal to the subscriber’s home. There, special equipment would then transform 5G into Wi-Fi signals that anyone can connect to like normal, at least until all devices can use 5G directly. That said, such a system would still be subject to the same limitations above.

In due time 5G can eventually replace Wi-Fi in use cases where it would be more efficient. IoT appliances that don’t need to be constantly connected to the Internet can use 5G instead while smart cities and smart cars could benefit from the low-latency the network provides. Again, all in due time.

What phones are compatible with 5G?

Technically, none at the moment but that hasn’t stopped OEMs from scrambling to proclaim their 5G readiness. Except Apple. Motorola was actually the first to jump on the train even before it left the station. But that’s via the 5G Moto Mod it announced alongside the Moto Z3.

The first 5G phone could actually come from Samsung (not OnePlus), as it so eagerly boasted during Qualcomm’s event. In theory, the new Snapdragon 855 is able to support it but Qualcomm is leaving the X50 5G modem an optional feature for manufacturers to decide on. As for the iPhone, not gonna happen next year.

One probable reason for that varied implementation is the cost. While Qualcomm is lumping 5G as part of its Snapdragon 855 push, it’s a feature that could cost manufacturers, and therefore users, extra. As much as $200-$300 extra, if OnePlus CEO Pete Lau is to be believed. That may not yet even take into consideration what carriers will bill subscribers for the super fast network, which many hope they won’t at all.

When will we get 5G?

Definitely not in 2019. Or rather, the wave will start with a few ripples that only a lucky few will be able to experience, much less take full advantage of. As mentioned, Verizon’s 5G rollout last October is still in question. AT&T plans on launching a “true mobile” 5G service before the year is over, which happens in less than 25 days. Both T-Mobile and Sprint aren’t planning on following suit until next year. And that’s not yet considering the 5G-compatible smartphones you’ll need.

And that’s just in the US alone. Other markets, like Australia, Canada, China, and the UK are all doing their own independent work on supporting and launching 5G networks and each has their own pace. Considering how long it took 4G to be as widespread as it is now, don’t expect massive 5G adoption until at least 2020. Perhaps in time for an iPhone “5G”.

Wrap-up

It’s easy to believe the hype and be taken in by the promises. Truth be told, the change is inevitable anyway. Although we have not yet fully maxed out the speed limits of 4G LTE, we have congested the networks and have stretched it thin. 5G not only increases the speed and the bandwidth, it also increases the possibilities.

But it’s not going to happen in a year’s time, no matter how much 5G proponents push it. There’s the rather thorny business of buying spectrums and the legal considerations of putting small cells in almost every corner and wall. Not to mention the costs that consumers will have to pay for both the equipment to use 5G and the service to enable it. 5G is coming soon, no doubt about it. Just not too soon.

5G is coming: Smartphones in 2019 - Things to consider before buying one what you need to know. 5G is coming: what you need to know. Smartphones in 2019 – Things to consider before buying one

1. Believe the Hype

Before we start looking at sorting out specs and counting cash, let’s just quick imagine you just want to get the “best” phone, quick. If you’re the sort of person for whom money is no object, you’re in luck. Smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung and Huawei have your number!

They’ve got devices like the Huawei P20 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the iPhone XS – and their 2019 iterative upgrades. These devices cost a lot of money – and have all the most high-quality parts and construction, and such. The Google Pixel 3 (and forward) are now in that category, too.

If you’re wary of dropping over a thousand dollars and want to see whether “lesser” phones can do the trick just as well, you’re not alone. You’re also in luck – several brands are going to have your proverbial back.

2. Don’t believe the hype

In the year 2019, we’re going to see a lot of focus on the size, shape, and placement of the front-facing camera on any number of new phones. If you don’t care about this, you’re going to have a LOT of options for new devices at a wide range of price points. Better yet, if you’re not all about the whole “IT MUST COVER THE WHOLE PHONE” display trend, you’re going to find phones with bezels (tiny bezels, even) for a lot cheaper than ever before. You just need to know what you want.

3. Take note of what you’re looking for

It might seem obvious – but be aware of what’s worked for you in the past, when it comes to smartphone features. Be aware of everything that mattered to you in a smartphone and make yourself a list for your smartphone-buying venture in the very near future.

Smartphone Features that Matter to You:
  • Display size
  • Camera quality
  • Battery life
  • Audio: Headphone jack? Bluetooth audio? External speakers?
  • Battery Charging: micro-USB, USB-C, wireless charging
  • Data speed / reliability
  • Accessories (cases)
You won’t always be able to pick a phone with all your most ideal qualities, but the industry today is vast – especially if you’re buying an Android phone. While some brands seem to be offering less variety each year, new brands are springing up with high quality hardware that’s worth a look.

Take a look at the Xiaomi Mi A1 from all the way back in October of 2017. That phone would still be an amazing deal today if it cost its full original price – right around $233. Since that device’s release, several other phones have come from several manufacturers, all bringing similar value with a similar emphasis on simplicity. Watch for the “Android One” brand if your goal is to get a robust smartphone at a low price with software that’s updated regularly by Google – Android One is the key.

4. Keep an eye on “smaller” manufacturers

China is winning the smartphone feature development race right now. They’ve got the fastest growing smartphone brands in the world, and they’ve got such fierce competition for the bulk of China’s smartphone users, they’ve got to move quick! As such, brands of which you might never have heard are popping up with the consumer in mind.

Below you’ll see a list of non-American brands to keep an eye on. Next to each entry is one of each brand’s most recent smartphones in review form as posted here on SlashGear. These examples should give you a good idea of what you’re in for in 2019.

International Smartphone brands with recent smartphone examples:
  • Huawei: Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review
  • Xiaomi: (See M1 A1 above)
  • OnePlus: OnePlus 6T Review
  • Honor (under Huawei): Honor 10 Review
  • Pocophone (under Xiaomi): POCO F1 Review
  • OPPO: OPPO R17 Pro Review
  • Vivo: Vivo NEX S Review
  • Meizu: Meizu 16th Review
  • Nokia*: (See Nokia 3.1 Review below)
The occasional USA-based brand can be found bringing new life to the smartphone universe now, too. Take Essential, for example. Created by the founder of Android, Essential was the first company to release a phone with a notched display in the entire industry. They didn’t get the pricing right on their first phone, so they’ve not gotten off to a great start – but they’re not gone yet! (Also their first phone (Essential Phone PH-1) can be purchased now for a steal. )

*Yes, Nokia. Nokia is now a licensed brand, which means they’re not really the company they used to be. The brand HMD Global licenses the Nokia brand to make smartphones. The smartphones HMD Global makes with Nokia’s brand run Android, and they run Android very, very well. See our Nokia 3.1 Review to get a taste for low price and high quality from a brand you almost certainly recognize, but haven’t owned for many years.

5. Be open to change

Be surprised by how much emphasis is placed on features you actually care very little about. Be surprised by how little changes year by year, phone generation by generation. And most important – be surprised by the variety offered by quickly moving brands like Huawei.

You might have noticed that Huawei appeared in the “believe the hype” section of this guide as well as the “smaller manufacturers” section. That’s made possible by the hardcore competitive nature of the industry in Asia and the fact that Huawei’s basically the fastest growing brand in the world today. They want to cover ALL their bases. While Huawei’s still not quite square with the US government at the moment, they’re not moving any slower anywhere else in the world as a result.

Most importantly, keep it tuned to SlashGear for a massive number of smartphone reviews for phones from all price points. We’re working with every manufacturer to bring in the phones you’re going to be deciding on in 2019. We’re here to give you the answers you need before you drop your cash on your next most personal device in the year 2019 and beyond.

google docs to wordpressWe love WordPress, but it can also be frustrating sometimes when it doesn’t work flawlessly with another platform or integration. A lot of you are business owners and bloggers which have to deal with content creation for your sites on a regular basis. More often than not this is done via Google Docs because it is super easy for people to share drafts and collaborate in real-time for free. However, when it comes to moving from Google Docs to WordPress, this is where things get messy, as much of your formatting is lost or breaks. And it soon becomes a WordPress publisher’s nightmare. Check out these four tricks to help make working with Google Docs and WordPress a little easier.

The Issue With Google Docs and WordPress

It is no question that Google Docs is probably one of the most popular platforms when it comes to online document sharing and editing. Microsoft Office 365 is really its only competitor. In fact, if we take a look at Google Trends for “Google Docs,” you can see that over the past 5 years interest around it has been steadily increasing. Google Docs is completely free to use and that is why it has become a popular tool for content creators, bloggers, and writers.

So let’s dive into the real issue. Let’s say you hire a writer to put together an article for your blog. They put together the draft in a Google Doc and send you a link so you can take a look and approve it. Perhaps you make a few edits and then are ready to move it into your WordPress site. Typically you would simply copy and paste the contents from your Google Doc into the WordPress visual editor. But what happens, in reality, is that this results in all sorts of formatting issues.
Below is an example Google Doc we are going to use. So we select all the content and copy it to our clipboard.

Google Doc example
We then go over to our WordPress editor and paste it. The first issue you have is that typically there will be extra line breaks in-between paragraphs, even though in the Google Doc there is literally only one line break.

google doc exampleGoogle Docs to WordPress spacing issue
Google Docs to WordPress spacing issue
It gets worse though, if we take a look at the text and or code view of it, here is what it looks like. You can see that all of this extra unecessary code is being added.

google docs to wordpress span style font weight 400
Google Docs to WordPress span style issue
Extra lines breaks are being added inserting this code.

When you copy from Google Docs to WordPress it creates extra span styles everywhere.
<span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span>
When you copy from Google Docs to WordPress and have lists it creates extra font-weights styles.
<li style="font-weight: 400;">
So basically you are left with a mess in your code. And even if you ignore the code, which you shouldn’t, you would still have the line breaks everywhere. On a 2,000+ document this is a lot of backspacing to be done to fix it. And your are still left with underlying code which really should be fixed. This is a huge waste of time. It can also affect your performance. Yes, it is at a very minimal level, but even HTML makes up your overall total page weight. So what can you do about it? Well, follow the tricks below.
Note: It is important to know that Office 365 Word doesn’t have the same issue with span styles and font weight. However, it still has the spacing issues when copying across to the WordPress editor. Also, you might be wondering about images. Images don’t copy across either, but you should generally upload those separately anyways. Images should be compressed, as well as strategically naming the file for SEO purposes. That’s right, even image files names matter when it comes to SEO.

Google Docs to WordPress

It’s kind of surprising that these issues are still happening 2017, and we are curious why they aren’t being discussed more in the WordPress community. We personally know a lot of you writers out there are using Google Docs. We use it as well. Thankfully, there are a few tricks you can use to make your workflow from Google Docs to WordPress less painful and streamlined.

1. Trick to Clear Formatting

The first little trick is a little weird, but it works, and involves a simple copy and paste a couple times along with utilizing the clear formatting button. Follow the steps below to get quickly clean up the formatting.
Retain Google Docs to #WordPress formatting with this simple trick! 😂 Click to Tweet

Step 1

Copy and paste the contents from Google Docs into your WordPress Visual Editor as normal. Select your text and copy it again to your clipboard.

Step 2

It sounds weird, but create a new temporary blank post draft by clicking into “Add New” under posts in your dashboard. Then paste the content again from your first post that you just copied. When you paste this the second time it will automatically clean up the extra line breaks.

Step 3

Then copy and paste the contents from your temporary draft back into your original post. Highlight all of the content and click on the “Clear formatting” button in the visual toolbar editor. This will remove the span styles, and font weights. This trick retains all of the headers (h1, H2, H3, etc.). The only thing it doesn’t retain is the bold. If you need to retain every 100%, then check out trick 2 and 3.

And here is an example of the text and or code view after the steps above. As you can see, it is as clean as a whistle.

Now you can continue to work with writers and bloggers using Google Docs and it won’t slow down your workflow. All it takes is a simple copy and paste a couple times and using the clear formatting button.
For some of you, this may not matter that much. But for those of you who use both Google Docs and WordPress a lot, this might just be a lifesaver! We use this trick ourselves every day. When we originally went to find a solution we even were going as far as converting to Markdown and then moving back into WordPress. Little did we know, all it took was a simple copy and paste, plus clearing the formatting, which gets you to almost near perfect.

2. Use Wordable to Easily Move Google Docs to WordPress

The second option you have is to use a premium service called Wordable. This was actually created for the very problem we described above, and that is, there has not been a good solution to move Google Docs to WordPress. Basically with Wordable you can draft and collaborate in Google Docs as normal. When you are ready, there is a one-click button import to your WordPress site. It retains all your tags, headers, bold, bullets, italics, and even your images.
wordable
They have a free plan which allows you to give it a try. It comes with unlimited free exports for 24 hours and 2 free exports after that. You can hook it up to one WordPress site. If you need more exports and the ability to export to multiple WordPress sites the premium version is $19/month. While this does sound costly, if you use Google Docs on a daily basis, this service definitely pays for itself.
The two possible cons for some is that you have to give them access to your Google Drive as well as your WordPress site (with the plugin). This might be an issue for those concerned with security. We would personally love to see a 3rd party, standalone exporter. Follow the steps below on how to easily export from Google Docs to WordPress.

Step 1

Sign up over at Wordable for a free account. It will ask for permission to your Google Drive.

Step 2

Add your WordPress site under Settings and download and install the plugin.

Step 3

Search for the document in your Google Drive list and click on “Export to WordPress.” This will create a draft of the article on your WordPress site.

Also, as far as the images goes, when you upload an image to Google Docs, it actually does retain its filename. So if you instruct writers beforehand to name their images for SEO purposes, it will then follow through if you are exporting using Wordable.  Otherwise, if they don’t. We would recommend re-uploading all of your images, which could be a pain.

Images exported from Wordable also go directly to your WordPress media library which means they can be compressed with a third party image optimization plugin. As you can see, Wordable can be a very fast and effective option if you need something to export from Google Docs to WordPress and retain all the formatting.

3. Jetpack and Chrome Extension

Another solution is to use Jetpack, along with their free Chrome extension. One thing to be aware of though is that JetPack does add additional requests to your site, and it requires things such as XML-RPC and the JSON API to be enabled for it to function.

Step 1

You can download Jetpack from the WordPress repository, or by searching for it within your WordPress dashboard under “Add New” plugins.

Step 2

Upon activation you will need to connect Jetpack to WordPress.com.

Step 3

Then install the free WordPress.com to Google Docs Chrome extension. You will have to give it permission to access your documents.

Step 4

Then in Google Docs click on “Add-ons” and select “WordPress.com for Google Docs.” Then on the right hand side you can click on “Save” and it will create a post in your WordPress site.

4. Give Writers a WordPress Account

The last option you have is to simply create WordPress accounts for your writers and require that they create everything entirely within the WordPress editor. For some, this might be a better solution, but there are also a lot of companies that don’t want to have to worry about managing author accounts.
WordPress essentially contains six different user roles. For authors and writers you will probably want to choose one of the following, based upon what you want them to have access to:
  • Author: somebody who can publish and manage their own posts.
  • Contributor: somebody who can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them.
To create an account for a writer simply click on “Add New” under Users in your WordPress dashboard and assign the role you want them to have.

Give writer access to your site
You could even take this a step further with a permissions plugin like the User Role Editor. But even with correct roles and permissions setup, letting more people access to your WordPress dashboard still weakens your overall security. Just make sure you are careful when adding accounts for people you don’t know.

Summary

If you work with writers who use Google Docs a lot, or perhaps you are a writer, hopefully, one of the above tricks and recommendations will help speed up your workflow. And perhaps one day we can simply copy and paste directly from Google Docs to WordPress without having to do anything! The team at Wordable definitely have the right idea going.
What are your thoughts? Have you struggled with the Google Docs formatting issue as well? If so, let us know below.

Smartphones with longer battery life in the offing
Common lithium-ion batteries only have a certain capacity," said Kyeongjae Cho, a professor at The University of Texas at Dallas in the US. "And most people want to use their phones for a longer time," said Cho. Many smartphone users are familiar with the shelf life of lithium-ion batteries.
Sometimes a charge can last roughly a day. Cho, along with research associate Jeongwoon Hwang, worked with other regional scientists to improve lithium-sulphur batteries, long considered by many to be an evolution from lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-sulphur batteries have important advantages over lithium-ion batteries. According to Cho, they are less expensive to make, weigh less, store almost twice the energy of lithium-ion batteries and are better for the environment.
"A lithium-sulphur battery is what most of the research community thinks is the next generation of battery," Cho said. "It has a capacity of about three to five times higher than lithium-ion batteries, meaning if you are used to a phone lasting for three hours, you can use it for nine to 15 hours with a lithium-sulphur battery," he said. However, lithium-sulphur batteries are not without problems. Sulphur is a poor electrical conductor and can become unstable over just several charge-and-recharge cycles.
Electrodes breaking down is another reason lithium-sulphur batteries are not mainstream. Scientists have tried to improve lithium-sulphur batteries by putting lithium metal on one electrode and sulphur on the other. However, lithium metal often is too unstable, and sulphur too insulating. The scientists discovered a technology that produced a sulphur-carbon nanotube substance that created more conductivity on one electrode, and a nanomaterial coating to create stability for the other.
The researchers discovered that molybdenum, a metallic element often used to strengthen and harden steel, creates a material that adjusts the thickness of the coating when combined with two atoms of sulphur, a coating thinner than the silk of a spider-web. They found it improved stability and compensated for poor conductivity of sulphur, thus allowing for greater power density and making lithium-sulphur batteries more commercially viable.

The prices of traditional LED TVs have dropped drastically after Xiaomi’s recent entry in the Indian TV market. A number of brands are selling everything -- from a full HD to a smart LED TV -- with starting prices as low as Rs 10,000 for 32-inch 720p HD-ready LED TVs. Most of them have a similar size, cater to a comparable price bracket and also carry same features. While the 720p HD-ready models could be a decent choice for those who are dependent on set-top boxes for entertainment but for people watching movies or playing games, TVs with 1080pHD resolution are recommended. If you are given the option to choose between a smaller TV with smart features and a simple bigger TV in the same price range, it would be wise to opt for the bigger-sized one for the same price. Smart technology gimmicks might sound attractive but at the end of the day it can never beat the satisfaction of owning a bigger TV for the same price. Here are top seven big screen (40-inch and above) LED televisions that you can buy for under Rs 30,000. Note that these are the best buy prices and could vary from seller to seller.

Right after Reliance Jio introducing a new yearly prepaid plan, state-run telecom service provider BSNL has launched a new annual plan of Rs 1,097, providing benefits for 365 days. Sadly, this plan from BSNL comes with just data and voice calling benefits, unlike Jio’s prepaid plan which gives data, voice calling and SMS benefits for the same period. In addition, BSNL has launched this new plan only in Kolkata circle and it will be valid until January 6, 2019. Having said that, the benefits of this new plan from BSNL doesn’t even come close to what Jio is offering with its new plan of Rs 1,699. But it’s an excellent plan for heavy voice-calling users.

Telecom operator Vodafone India has introduced a new prepaid plan of Rs 597 for both feature phone and smartphone users. The Rs 597 prepaid recharge offers benefits for 168 days for feature phone users and the same plan providers benefits for 112 days for smartphone users. Notably, Bharti Airtel also has a Rs 597 prepaid recharge solely for smartphone users, unlike Vodafone. With its new prepaid plan of Rs 597, Vodafone is giving a total of 10GB data benefit, unlimited voice calls with a cap and 100 text messages per day. So smartphone users can enjoy these benefits for 112 days, whereas these benefits are exceptional for feature phone users because it’s valid for 168 days. The data benefit offered by this plan can be enjoyed on 4G or 3G or 2G.

BSNL Rs 1,097 Prepaid Plan: Benefits and Details

Talking about the benefits offered by this plan, users will get a total of 25GB data which should be used during the entire plan validity of 365 days. The plan also comes bundled with unlimited voice calling benefit, but again, you can make voice calls to numbers located in Mumbai and Delhi circles. On the brighter side, BSNL is not capping voice calls to 250 minutes or 1000 minutes like Vodafone Idea. Also, there’s no after FUP speed provided by BSNL with this prepaid plan, which is underwhelming.

BSNL Rs 1,097 Prepaid Plan vs Jio Rs 1,699 Yearly Plan

Right now, the best yearly prepaid plan is provided by the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio itself. Jio, which recently amassed 250 million subscribers has introduced a prepaid plan of Rs 1,699, offering benefits for 365 days. Under the newly launched plan, Jio is giving its 1.5GB of 4G data per day, unlimited voice calls which can be used across all the 22 telecom circles and 100 SMS per day.

As you can see, BSNL’s newly introduced plan of Rs 1,097 falls short of Jio’s plan by a huge margin. Even the voice calling and data benefit offered by Jio are nowhere close to what Jio’s providing.

BSNL Rs 1,097 Prepaid Plan is Aimed at Heavy Voice Calling Users

In the last couple of years, telecom subscribers in the country have seen a considerable amount of data-centric plans launching by the telcos, but in recent times, private telcos such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are coming up with voice-only plans aimed at feature phone users and basic smartphone users.

Vodafone Idea and Airtel came up with Active Recharges and Smart Recharge schemes under which they’re bundling talk time, data and rate cutter benefits with a validity of 28 days to 84 days. Alternatively, they also launched a plethora of combo prepaid plans with data, voice calling and SMS benefits for a longer duration.

For example, Vodafone India introduced a Rs 189 prepaid plan which is giving unlimited voice calling with a limit, 2GB of data for a period of 56 days. Before this plan’s arrival, we haven’t seen any prepaid plan with 56-day validity under Rs 200. Subsequently, Airtel introduced a Rs 289 prepaid recharge which is giving 4GB of data and unlimited voice calling for 84 days to select users across the country.

It will be interesting to see how BSNL reacts to these tariff plans from Airtel and Vodafone Idea.

Vodafone Rs 597 Prepaid Plan Benefits

Talking about the benefits offered by the plan, users will get unlimited local, STD and roaming calls within India, 10GB of 4G/3G data and 100 SMS per day for 112 days. Sadly, Vodafone is limiting the voice calls at 250 minutes per day, 1000 minutes per week and the calls can only be made to 100 unique numbers during the entire validity period.

As mentioned above, the validity for smartphone users is 112 days, and for feature phone users, the same benefits can be availed for 168 days.

Vodafone Rs 597 vs Airtel Rs 597 Prepaid Plan

Airtel was the first operator to launch the Rs 597 prepaid plan. Airtel is offering this plan for prepaid users in some circles, and it offers unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit, 100 SMS per day and 10GB data for 168 days. While Vodafone is offering the same plan for 112 days for smartphone users, Airtel is providing the same for 168 days. It’s unknown whether Airtel has any special validity for feature phone users.

Vodafone Rs 597 Plan is Valid Across all 4G Circles

As seen with some other tariff plans launched recently by Vodafone, this new Rs 597 plan is also valid in the company’s 4G circles. For example, Vodafone introduced a Rs 159 prepaid plan offering benefits of 1GB data per day, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for 28 days is also being launched in only the company’s 4G circles.

Vodafone is Aiming at Voice-Calling Users With This Plan

First and foremost, this plan from Vodafone is aimed at voice-calling users. For instance, Vodafone did not launch a single prepaid plan under Rs 1,000 with validity over 100 days. But this Rs 597 plan offers benefits for 112 days for smartphone users and for feature phone users, it’s the best bet.

Vodafone Takes on Jio’s Rs 594 JioPhone First Recharge Plan

For the unaware, Reliance Jio recently started its JioPhone Monsoon Hungama offer, under which the telco is giving a JioPhone at just Rs 501 for users exchanging their old working feature phone. Also, at the time of availing the feature phone offer, Jio has set a mandate that customers should recharge with Rs 594 plan, which gives benefits for six months. Vodafone’s Rs 597 plan for feature phone users takes on the same recharge plan from Jio.

Vodafone Launches 1.5GB Daily Data Plans

In recent times, Vodafone has been aggressively launching new prepaid plans every now and then. The country’ second largest telco recently unveiled three plans of Rs 209, Rs 479 and Rs 529, offering 1.5GB daily data, unlimited voice calls with a cap and 100 SMS per day for 28 days, 84 days and 90 days respectively.
